My 6.5 lasted to 144,00 then replaced it with complete rebuilt that still goes through 2 litres of oil with every fillup. Hard to start is it's middle name POS fits better. Northern Ontario eats trucks like these.
@anapeg100 Thats funny.... I have one with 200k on it and it dont leak a drop, starts fine and runs like a top. Im not under the hood every week. You just have to be smarter than the truck you drive sometimes.
@possmguts , naw, this one is garbage, nothing but trouble. It has dropped the transmission now three times. It is a 3500 that is incapable of the job at hand. My Dodge 2500 pulls the loads just fine. Haven't had a problem with it as yet. Well, tires because it is singles, not dual tired like the GM. Every manufacturer makes the odd lemon and mine is the GM. It has nothing to do with "being smarter" than a dumb ass truck.
@anapeg100 naw man, I didnt mean it like that, but now that I read it again, it sure looked that way hu?..... and I know all about lemons and GM.... had 2 law suits against them last year for 2 different new GM vehicles. The only reason my old 6.5 runs so good, is because I have a couple grand in it to get it that way. The guy I bought it from miss treated it badly and let everything go. And you are correct.... a Doge diesel will spank a 6.5 every time. I wont go up against one.
@possmguts , how is yours on fuel and motor oil? I find I need shares in Sunoco to go anywhere. One tank of fuel, two quarts of oil. This is while pulling though.
@anapeg100 I never figured the milage, but I bet its close to 18MPG.... as far as oil... after going over all the gaskets on the truck... I dont have any leaks, but need about a quart a month maybe. But Im not pulling in mine so who knows what it would use if I did pull. Its just my Hot-Rod lol
@possmguts , my motor is a complete fresh rebuild, including fuel pup and turbo and the back end is covered and the front of my trailers. As I said I think both the old one and this one are less than GM thought they would be. My son just cam back from the highway and the truck by itself,(no load) burned $200.00 plus for just over 900 KM. So, not too bad I guess.
@anapeg100 Well It just sounds like you have some issues that need attention... it shouldnt use any oil if its all freshly rebuilt, unless the oil rings are wrong gap or the CDR is clogged. Do you get smoke from the oil filler cap when running?. I have 200k on mine with new heads and pump and quite a few other new stuff. Did you replace the oil cooler lines? They leak like a mother when they get old. Other than being not as strong as a ford or dodge, I could be happier with the old girl.
@possmguts , I don't have a clue what was and wasn't replaced as I paid a private shop to do the work. We use all the trucks for work(we spray Styrofoam insulation) and don't have (can't afford) our own service shop. She starts, if you are patient, runs, just not fast, so we will have to put up with it till I can replace it. At least with the oil leaks she will never rust out on me.
@anapeg100 Thats tough when you dont know..... I ran into a valve cover gasket that wasnt seated betwine the cover and the head. It was pushed into the head when the guy installed the driver side and he didnt see or care I guess. It leaked like a siff...... So do you leak it out or are you burning the oil? Those oil lines are bad about leaking too.
Ill be glad to help anyway I can over the computer. Just hit me up.
@possmguts As far as I know it throws it only no burning. The tailgate is all spotted with oil drops all the time. I can't see anywhere obvious where it leaks but it will on occasion leave a stain in some customers drive. She smokes a bit but it is mostly carbon. This weekend my son and I are going to look see. Father and son time with a beer in yo0u mitt, can't ask for better.
do u have smoke while cranking??? its probly a fuel problem since it obviously cranks over, and your second problem is its a dura isuzu lol, but really i bet its a fuel problem
@Joker28th Yep. He didn't even have to attempt to start it, should of known the result. Why do you think so many people bought 1 tons with 350s and 454s in the 90's and avoided this worthless pos?
I just love watching all these videos on youtube with people who think their trucks are loud. When what they really need to do is head to Gatesville Texas and listen to a couple trucks from there. Even other Texas towns got nothing on Gatesville. Should hear my truck. I drop it a gear on main street, you hear it 6 blocks away just slowing down. (I let my ex wife use it once, I heard her for about 2 mins before she got to the house, at least 6 blocks)
hey man whatcha doin with these trucks?? hang N out some where or at work?? looks like fun....... just got a 94 chev full size blazer 350 crate motor(GM) 4x4 , no rust at all, but we dont have much inTexas
That's really odd seeing a half ton with a diesel.Maybe its a small axle 2500 that was rebadged as a 1500? I surely wouldn't think someone woulda swapped a diesel in place of a mall block.
Damn thing looks awesome for being used as a plow truck why are people so in tune to the bad stuff that bitch has 323000 miles on it and not that much rust compared to alot of used to plow it didn't look like it had a belt on it that's probably part of the reason it wouldn't start
@CORVAIRWILD it probably won't start because if you leave the key on to long after the glowplugs warm-up or the wait to start light goes off it will flood out really easy, it happens with all three of my 6.5 turbo diesel's

Dude that chevy is freakin rusty man where do you live? that is rustier than my truck i have a 1982 dodge d50 with a 2.6L engine i got my truck from a U.S Air Force Base here in Idaho Falls But anyway that truck is rusty yo
@philliphaessig the starter may be part of the problem the whole truck is a rust bucket the engine has alot of rust on it the truck has probably no compression
my 96 6.5 has 450,000 not a spot of rust on it and in minnesota thats hard to come by, not to mention the few major problems ive had with it. its all how you take care of the 6.5...

yes you can start a 6.5T without a belt (as long as you have good batteries), you just wont have power steering, A/c, charging or a fan. this guys problem is that his glow plugs or the glow plug controller is bad and its cold. i've run into this problem a thousand times being an Army mechanic and i also own a 98 2500 with a 6.5T.

Hey dumbass next time you try to make a 6.5 look like shit make sure it has a fucking alternator belt before you try starting it. Nothing is going to start without that belt you idiot
One good thing about living in the southwest, our trucks never rust. So east coast guys if you want a 30 year old rust free truck take a vegas trip and bring your trailer.
Even though I'm not particularly one of the 6.5L diesel persuasion, I did notice that there is NO FANBELT to turn said alternators, which are usually needed for the ECU and other important doodads to work right. Oh yeah, I'll make detective yet!!
Wow, just wow. Some people are dumber than their vehicles.
It's the first year of the DS4 pump.
Check lift pump pressure to start with. Might be an idea.
If it has been sitting for a while, the catylytic might be plugged. Will result in no start, and similar cranking.
Check your grounds. If those are brand new batteries, you should be cranking faster. Truck needs to turn over at 700RPM to fire. If it isn't, there is either not enough juice, (bad connection) or plugged cat.
Nothin wrong with these trucks and engines, Im a ford guy and even I know chevys/GMC's kick ass I'd take a GM product. On a side note my friends father has a 1991 GMC 1500 6.2l w/188000 miles and it syill gets 21 miles to the gallon!
watching video's with the title of no start 6.5 no suprise idiot... its entertaining to watch videos of people who have there chevys that cant go no where cuz there truck wont start lmao...
chevy has a 1/2 ton diesel cause they are the only people so far to think up something that smart, you get the ride of a 1/2 ton an the torque an power of a diesel engine.
1994? that means it is the same model (remember here in mexico we are 2-year delay) my model is 4x2 it just have 5-bolt wheels, drums and disc brakes.... i will share you a pic or a short video later...
i own a 6.5L turbo diesel truck with the 4L80E Tranny. It is has been nothing, but problems. It's already gone through (2) 4L80E transmissions. 1st tranny lasted 180,000 miles roughly. Second tranny lasted less then 29,000 miles(Was Rebuilt by GM Goodwrench Transmissions. Later a sensor went bad on the transmission causing hard shifts, replaced that. After it was shifting fine through all gears until it decided to grind up 4th gear. I wasn't towing anything! All fluids were checked prior to.
my buddy Jons Brother Tom works on the semi Diesels, other day had one come in with 3 rods juttin out the side of the block, dunno why that 1500 wasnt startin but I know why that Semi was towed in by a wrecker

Uhm. were you drunk when you filmed this? And btw... all Fod pick-ups come with "POSI" Stock. And its no wonder why a Chevrolet doesn't start. Thats when the new president took office. He said "For the last 10-20 years we've been making crap" No joke. He said it. Its kind of obvious why FORD'S NOT BANKRUPT! Chevrolet, hmm, Government Motor Vehicles. No thanks. I will stick to the US made vehicles. 89 F-350, 323k miles before died. All stock, nothing wrong happened. "Rust" Move to the West coast!
trust me on that my 6.5 TD suburban sounded like that (with the now start) ... changed the pmd on the fuel injection pump and she starts every morning since... needle nose plyers and a flat screw driver is all the tools you need... i will post of a vid of my own truck showing people how its done for those who might run into the same issue down the road
hey if you havn't figured out what the problem is and the truck is still sitting in your yard ... 3 words for you PUMP MOUNTED DRIVER or (PMD for short) .. will cost you maybe 400$ and 15 -20 minutes of your time to change ... she will run mint after that is changed

both those issues are non engine related and will happen with any vehicle.
If none of those work, then the PMD is probably gone. Get a relocation kit, and move it.

watching video's with the title of no start 6.5 no suprise idiot... its entertaining to watch videos of people who have there chevys that cant go no where cuz there truck wont start lmao...
chevyblows2001 2 years ago
the truck's in the junkyard for a reason. its' not his truck. all his run, as do mine. as long as any vehicle is cared for it'll run much longer.
This one sounds like it's low on compression honestly.
iamdave0887 2 years ago
yeah i know... i was fucking around...
it sounds like it has little or no compression acctually... and has many many miles...
chevyblows2001 2 years ago
that sierra was pretty good for only 800!

chevy has a 1/2 ton diesel cause they are the only people so far to think up something that smart, you get the ride of a 1/2 ton an the torque an power of a diesel engine.

The 4L80E transmissions suck big time. An electronic nightmare, unreliable and not built to withstand the torque!
Microillusions 2 years ago
i've got over 185,000 miles on my factory 4L80E that's behind my 6.5 diesel. what were you saying about unreliable again?
iamdave0887 2 years ago
i own a 6.5L turbo diesel truck with the 4L80E Tranny. All fluids were checked prior to.

what kinda motors are in the old chevy diesels??
chevyblows2001 2 years ago
6.5 turbo diesel IDI diesel from 92 to 2000 in the pickups and the 6.2 N/A IDI from 1982 to 1992.
Nothing wrong with either motor. i have a truck with each engine and they both run perfect.

Uhm. were you drunk when you filmed this? And btw... all Fod pick-ups come with "POSI" Stock. "Rust" Move to the West coast!

trust me on that my 6.5 TD suburban sounded like that (with the now start) ... changed the pmd on the fuel injection pump and she starts every morning since... needle nose plyers and a flat screw driver is all the tools you need... i will post of a vid of my own truck showing people how its done for those who might run into the same issue down the road
serpant91 2 years ago
hey if you havn't figured out what the problem is and the truck is still sitting in your yard ... 3 words for you PUMP MOUNTED DRIVER or (PMD for short) .. will cost you maybe 400$ and 15 -20 minutes of your time to change ... she will run mint after that is changed
