DJFireUSA: when I try to do the figure 8, I keep the handle bars moving a tiny bit so that it locks, then I pull a tiny bit out of lock, and then lock it again. I'm in 1st gear idling and no scraping and the turns are not quite as tight as I want them. If I try to scrape in 1st gear idle, will the bike just drop to the ground? If I keep it at a full lock in 1st/idle, is there a trick to pulling out of the turn?
I am a safety instructor, you forgot all of your safety gear, what does that tell the people who watch you? No Helmet, no gloves, no over the ankle boots.
Damn!!!!! you are very skilled!!!! i've been riding 30+ years, Wings 18+ years...I don't think I could do that!!! Unless people have ridden a big bike, the skill involved is probably lost on them. Well done!!!
nice film and good driver

Updated response... technique needs work, you're looking at the ground, revs are way too high, you're using too much rear brake.
Did you try the third gear turns like I suggested?
Watch my 3rd gear trick riding video. I think you'll learn quite a bit.

Great balance on those tight turns.

How long does it take to be able to ride like this? As gl1200phil indicates: maybe never.
What kills me is that it looks so damn easy.

Nice job! Good work on the clutch. That's the correct way to use the clutch and the engine revs for these low speed maneuvers.

Skilled rider. Takes some confidence to do that with an 800lb bike.

And for serious suggestions - get her out of 1st gear and into second, then bring your rev's down.
The wing will do FULL lock, scraping hard parts turns in 3rd gear, at idle with no clutch and no braking. (Just do it on level ground)
If you are going to wing ding, check out the top gun competition

Trick - don't do it in first! Get out of 1st gear!
Did you watch the video response I posted? I put it up to show you what you can do in 3rd gear.
