I'm confused: why are the people in the audience ridiculing this? The original TV show upon which this is based is absolutely no more artistic or creative than this 1994 US remake proposal. Frankly, for a kids' cartoon show, the theme song seems quite catchy and memorable. Quite sad: I'm going to guess that those who laugh at others' artistic work have little to show of their own.

@MoonBoston are you serious? it's just plain bad. a clumsy attempt to artificially emphasize diversity (making the characters more unbelievable), an unnecessary real-life part tacked to it (which basically means every character becomes two - the cartoon version and the real-life version, further hurting the characterization) and overall lacking respect for the source material. even for 1994, it was an outdated concept, reminding me of the Mr.T cartoon. 80s cartoon style in the 90s? bad idea.

From observing outside the genre, I find little difference between the original and remake. Clumsiness of the remake aside, it simply seems disingenuous for those folks in the hotel function room to be laughing at any creative product. Truly, they're the last ones who should be poking fun at anybody.

It's a style that's not limited to location. Avatar is not Japanese, yes, but it was created by American producers just as this version of Sailor Moon was created by Toymakers. This attempt to adapt an anime failed but this was almost 20 years ago. Recently American-produced anime has succeeded.
