  • man. What computer at you

  • it-s a condenser inside the external motu mk3 ...go and change it it`s maximum a dollar a piece:)))

  • clean power? and how much stuff is plugged in?

  • @pistonear it worked for like four years with the same stuff plugged up

  • @alleiarts These things have useable life. They never last more than 5 years without problems, but they should be able to repair it right.

  • Check your settings on your board in the io settings. make sure your are at 44.1 or what ever you are cutting at with each unit Also in your preferences with your software also your pci settings in your motu pci console. make sure all inputs and out puts are checked.best of luck to you hope this helps. paul big white house studios

  • MOTU stuff works much better with Macs...I've heard that if you changed the IRQ settings or even try a different PCI slot, it might resolve the problem

  • MOTU IS CRAP SOUND CARD.

  • What do you have plugged into this. It kinda looks like you have a problem between the settings and something(s) connected to this. I own one of these and had to learn a bit about it (and I still am after 5+ years).

  • Don't you know MOTU and Mac are gangsta buddies. Get a mac and you'll be up and running in no time. Good luck.

  • I sympathize. I was there ! Your rig looks very communications intensive. I suggest a core I7 processor base and a complete new install. After you back up your data. Sorry bro but this happened to me before and it really is painful. I feel for you . Your CPU is C rying P ity U pgrade me !!! Nice rig though !! I could hang with you for days !

  • son, your computer looks like shit. Start by getting a real computer first, and then stop using radio shack cables! secondly, stop acting gangsta and maybe you can get some support.

  • generally the user is responsible for setup problems.

i have found that you DO NOT have the motu units on before you turn on your PC.

turn your PC on so that the drivers can load...THEN turn on your 2408. it gives the unit the ability to locate the drivers.

i had the same issue...less the cracking.

and i JSUT noticed that this is 4 years old and you probably fixed it or bought another unit...but i will submit my post anyways.

  • Should have bought a MAC =)

  • As BNP Audio said, you MUST have a Texas Instruments firewire card to run MOTU firewire interfaces. Newer Mac computers that do not use TI chipset also seem to work (my guitarist Macbook works), but 99/100 PC's use a RICOH chipset. They will not work with MOTU firewire interfaces, period. I hope this helps.

  • Your firewire card needs to have Texas Instrument Chipset....

  • open the interface and check that everything is connected properly. I solved it well and I was the same as you

  • 2) Now, if you have installed properly, turn on the motu and then turn on the computer. You'll have to drain the power from the computer each time before starting. I believe it's a glitch with the AMD, not the motu. contact me if you need to

  • 1) it's blinking because it's not linked. You should have left my instructions up. what kind if mixer you using? Let me see, I'm starting to remember. Do you have an AMD processor? Here's the steps. Turn off your computer/ or before turning on, drain the power by holding down the power switch while computer is turned off (or unplugged).

  • I was getting ready to install this and came back to look for instructions I posted here that worked for me. You erased!

  • It kinda looks like there's a problem with the box communicating with the PCI card or the box is trying to sync with something that just doesn't want to sync with it. What do you have plugged into the box (gear)? I own one of these and had to play with it for a couple minutes, but I haven't had this problem.

  • you're gonna break your speakers if you don't turn them of untill all the sound system is operative

  • i wish motu werent so unreliable. all videos of motu on youtube are of their units breaking, for the money - they're just not worth it!!!

  • How to install the motu 2408MK3 - help problems etc.

OKAY - skip down to "Step 1 to get it right" and work your way up. This

  • My brother have a Motu Traveler Mk3 ...wich is the second that they trade...and makes the same problem... Motu HAVE very much problems of hardware/firmware. Period. Who says the reverse...don't know anything about Motu hardware.

  • Turn everything off and plug one mic into the Motu interface, put on your eaphones and see if you're getting a clean signal. Then, set your bit depth to 16 and your sample rate to 44.1 on the Motu Interface. Turn on your computer and open a new project in Cubase and set your bit depth & sample rate to 16 and 44.1 again. If the problem still exists. then it's still probably something to do with your Cubase / Windows settings. Real problems with Motu interfaces are almost unheard of.

  • What's the point of criticizing without offering a solution.

  • first the computer must be a mac , i had many problem with windows , mackie firewire interface , maudio and many don't work well , so one day i buy a mac and without drivers,my mackie 1620 and firewire interface work super, and i record a CD with , louisiana jazz band.

  • actually the computer doesn't have to be a mac. I honestly would prefer a mac over windows for any kind of recording project, but it doesn't need to be.

  • Stop blaming Motu!! MOTU is awesome! Get rid of the shit Wincrap computer first off... if you want to do recording with little hassle, Mac is the way to go. How many studios do you see running PCs? I have 2 MOTU interfaces... 2408 mk3... NO problems! And a Traveller mk2... it runs on a MacBook Pro with Logic, MainStage, and is also used to run my bands in-ear monitors plus front of house mix. Like previous posts said, you need a properly setup PC which is very difficult. Lose the PC!! Macs WORK!

  • Then MOTU shoud stop selling to us Windows people, no?

  • yes

  • wow I could only hear fans going off on that PC damn dude thats your home studio with all that fan noise. Yah I feel you about that Motu stuff I hear lots of negative comments about the interface.

  • MOTU = Shit, problems, rude rech support.

  • listen guys stop hating.

Im running a motu 1296 daisy chained with a Motu Hd192/ Pci 424 Card.

My computer is a quad core 3.0, 3 hard drives, 4 gigs of ram.

My software of choice is sonar 8 PE.

I run flawlessly! 24 inputs at a time....ive maxed out track counts at 189 (stop trying after that) @4 min

So dont say motu doesnt work....95% it is the lousy computer...when are you people gonna learn that it takes a special build computer for pc/audio!!!!! And you better know how to build or else!!

  • I have had a similar, nightmare sort of problem, not with no sound, but some horrible noise not unlike what I heard on here. New MacPro, OSX.5.7 right now. I have finally determined that the firmware of the 828mkII, which has no available update, isn't compatible with my system. I had no problems at all under OSX.3,9 and Cubase SX2.2, but it isn't working here. Bad CPU overloads where there oughtened be as well.

  • Do NOT buy MOTU if you use PC. Motu is for MAC User!!!!!!!!!!

  • it sucks for mac too........MOTU SUCKS

  • seems like a firewire chip hardware related problem that may conflict with Motu's firmware or hardware,it could also be a driver issue I am not sure, try all the drivers you can find available for your MOTU.Or your unit is faulty that's what I can think of mate...I am thinking getting a 828mk3 for my PC(Windows) but its nice to know about their support and 100 bucks charge to investigate the issue it will definetly make me think twice...Get those PCI Firewire Cards Texas Ins. it worked4me once.

  • Hey man,sad to see you are having them issues, have you tried reinstalling the MOTU Drivers and made sure they are the right versions etc.?It may also be a firewire issue,I would go with the djexea's comments and buy a proper firewire card smt like you can use the power lead from your PC's power supply those works best imo. or ask MOTU to find out which sort of PCI Firewire cards works best with it ie.Texas Instruments chipped etc. Doing this fixed my prob with my tascam once was very similar2urs

  • I got it too buddy. Its soul destroying. Motu have been no help neither. Wail.

  • I have the feeling MOTU did put the accent on the Mac OS sadly enough, but it should work fine on a PC. Buy a FireWire PCI card of Texas Instruments/Agere, it will most probably fix your problem. The problem is not the PC, mac fanboys.....

  • thats real bad man,...i am using windows xp too...the thing is i cant afford a mac...so i will have to use windows eitherways...any thing that could help with my situation now?

  • Get Mac dude

  • How'd you go with this? Working, or still a pile of cr@p?

I don't have one, but have you tried re-installing your PC? There could be some sort of driver conflict with something else you installed.

I also remember that some years back certain PCI soundcards had problems with PCI bus speeds.

It could be anything... Have you tried your hardware in another PC? It could be a mobo problem. My advice is not to assume the fault is in the MOTU box.

  • brought new computer

  • ive been working with DIGITAL PERFORMER and motu interfaces... since 1997.... NEVER HAD A PROBLEM.......... EVER.

  • hey my man !! the first and the most important of your problems is called WINDOWS XP.the second is called CUBASE..... MOTU was made and built for working with real machines ( MACINTOSH ) .

any real PROFESIONAL studio in the world work with MAC. i know lots of guys who have problems with WINDOWS at recording studios.. so. think about it.

  • Windows XP SP2? Did you install the Firewire fix?

  • The 2408mk3 runs off a card and not firewire.

  • BTW when I said MOTU forum I did not mean contact MOTU tecnical support, I am talking about the user forum.

  • Yo,@3:10 ur shit is fuck'd up.Thanks for postin this.I wanted to buy this unit, but this shows me its just a piece of HighTech Shit!!!Going with a Focusrite Saffire!!!

  • I'll tell you what this is. I know, I have the same damn thing on my Motu Ultra lite.

It's a driver issue with Windows and Motu products. Trust me, I'v trouble shooted this for too long.

    Rob

  • I'm having very similar problems with TWO of my PC's and my 896HD. It just squeels and pops, just like this guy. On my old mac, it works perfectly, so the tech support has 'no ideas' and suggests i send it in for a hundred bucks plus shipping, just so they can tell me it works find which i know already...

They release these things for both Apple and Windows, and yet they don't create working drivers for the windows software. BOO.

  • I find it interesting AND useful for this to be posted. I also find most of yall's comments ridiculous. Have any of you TRIED dealing with motu on the phone? it's a nightmare; a complete waste of time! It's almost always busy, they're rude, and they want to charge you nearly $100 just to look at your 'damaged' unit.

  • Is this Timbaland's studio?

  • What do you hope to accomplish by making a youtube video about this? Will MOTU not help? Why not? Your best chance of solving this problem is dealing directly with MOTU, so you can get on with the more important business of making your music.

  • I did that maybe two years ago... I put it on there and made a link for motu to look at it if they didn't understand what I was talking bout in the letter I sent to them....thank you, you must be a genius because I never thought to get in touch with them....

AGAIN THE VIDEO WAS LINKED TO A EMAIL

  • let the motu and your computer boot up before you turn on your speakers.

  • Did you send the card off to MOTU too? You could try the MOTU user forum for some help.

  • When you set up your system did you install the software before you installed the PCI card?

  • Man you shouldnt dog out MOTU,the company is a great contributor to the music Field, next time call MOTU (Support) and tell them in Great detail your problem, they will help you,do trouble shooting(Checking Cables,The computer, take it to a friends house put it on there computer,Try as much as you can)first, then if all else fails call tech support.

  • dogg it's been like almost two years now and still no help from MOTU so I will dog them as much as possible it's to the point where they email me once and the nothing

  • Maybe I can Help,If you have a mac for sure I can Help,If you have a PC Get A mac.One thing that a friend of mine did when he had a strange noise was to try it on my computer, which worked fine, are you using a PCI card.and what interface unit are You using.

  • you have a word sync issue turn every thing else off before you turn your computer on or let me put it this way turn your computer on first dumdum........

  • been there about three years ago. (meaning i tried that one a long time ago.

  • its very clear that it a clock issue are you running a master clock? or any clock with the standard word cable. you need to make sure that what ever is the master that everything that has to work with it is inline and completes the cycle for example if you 01v is the master than you need to run the sync cable to the motu set motu to slave set computer to slave make sure that your softwareknows about it and is also slaved at the same sample rate then still turn the outboard stuff on last

  • I have a MOTU 828mk2. i use an ad/da conv with the motu for extra in's&out's. maybe you have some gear thats not synced with the motu's world clock, have you updated the motu drivers? i've updated my drivers in the past and it made things worse. things like drop outs, the card not ready to use, buffer errors etc. i reverted back to the orginals & had no probs. if your original drivers work, don't upgrade them.hope you get it working, nothing worse to crap you off big time.i feel your frustration

  • I hade some problems with my motu 8 pre... I just hade to Upgrade windows ( firewire upgrade ) so the computer can handel the firewire speed motu require... I have no problems with my motu after that upgrade... Contact me if you want... Regards / Robert

  • exactly gly thats his problem

  • Turn the computer on first, then the Motu, always. Turn on your speakers on after the computer is booted up and the motu is booted up, this is why you get the crackling sound, you'll also get it if you turn off the Motu while the speakers are on!..Also go into control panel > audio and remove the Motu as the default sound playback device, set it to the internal audio device (i.e. Don't use the Motu for windows playback, use it only in Cubase with ASIO drivers).

    Good luck.

  • maybe try another firewire card...

  • maybe that crackling was from the crack you smoked earlyer

  • why don't you get a life or go find E.T. or something

  • My first guess would be that you don't have adequate power in your room. secondly, Stay on a PC unless you wanna pay a few hundred dollars every time Apple finds something in their OS they should have done in the first place and call it an "Upgrade" ie. you buy OSX10.1 then the fix it call it OSX 10.2 and charge you for it, so on and so on upto whatever the eff they are up to now... 10.4.3.5???

  • work with mac bro!

  • Were you able to hear sounds/music BEFORE you had this problem? If the answer is yes, have your computer sent to a tech to check out your sound card or sound card setting. Also you can check for loose/unpluged cable from the back panel of your computer to make sure your cables were unplugged by accident.

  • no i never got it fixed but will be sending it in for repair soon i get a chance thanks
