I'm not knocking the use of veggie oil... but what "chemicals" are you mixing with veggie to "make it into diesel." I run my 300D on bio, and to be quite frank, that engine sounds like a bag of smashed cornholes. There is obvious piston slap and wrist pin noise, as well as top end valve clatter that is far noisier than the OM617 should be when tuned.

I agree with dragonleo64...I too run wvo in my '83 300D TurboDiesel. Only differnce is I run a 70:30 ratio of wvo to pump diesel fuel. I read a study done by the petroleum industry that stated a 70:30 ratio mix of wvo to diesel had all the similar properties to pump diesel. Ni negative effects to injectors or piston carbonising was found by using a 70:30 ratio mix. Just change the fuel filters if/when hi-way acceleration becomes sluggish and away you go. Small price of only $5 for new filters :)

@n0morehate Veggie oil won't "Freeze" per se, more along the lines of "Solidify"
I drive an old 1989 Ford F250 with a modified wrecker bed, it runs on WVO (Waste Veggie Oil), I have heating system setup in my truck, all you can buy online.
1. Tank, 2 120V elements and 2 12V elements
2. Lines, 1 120V in-line element and 1 12v Element
3. Engine Bay, Standard block heater, 120V In-line heater and a cooling system operated block.
so when I plug my truck in, the 120V elements keep it warm enough.
fuck man just fix your vacume lines on the car. Ill tell you a horrible story about my sistuation. @aaronpourazar Hey, in the extreme cold, you still may need to still use a preheater. I have only been as cold as 16 degrees Farenheit, so beyond that I cannot tell you for sure what to do.

Actually, I am aware that veg oil has been used a Diesel for some time in Europe, but many Americans are completely unaware of this. Yep, it does smell like french fries!
@dragon64leo man you make it seem as if using veggie oil in a mercedes diesel is such a science...i have been using veg oil for years...here is how complex it really is folks......
find free oil....
filter it....
put on one extra in line fuel filter....
add the veg oil to your fuel tank....
drive....
if you live in cali or warm areas you will not need a line heater....
@1983benz240d First off, I look at the comments people make, and you should be ashamed of yourself! I see you have NO videos to show (afraid of trolls like yourself?), so you have nothing to add to this. If you were not an armchair engineer, you would understand lots of the "hows" and "whys" and would contribute, as opposed to making negative comments. I don't need a line heater, even in the winter. WHY?
Plastic valves? Is that a legitimate question, or a cheap shot about the knock? Maybe I didn't understand the first part of the question. Yes, the veg oil works with most Mercedes Diesels, and most European cars, as well as Dodge Cummings Diesel pickups. As far as trucks go, most Japanese trucks are fine, but keep veggie oil away from Fords.
i read the comments, i run my 86 6.2 diesel on wvo & bio diesel, matter of fact i throw it all in da tank even with diesel, except during the winter. BUT it mite b the camera but the motor really sounds bad. sry
@halopersin no heating is needed because he modded his oil
instead of converting the car, he converted his oil
there is always a better way to do things, dont be fooled by car makers, i had a gas powered car that gets 45 mpg, running on low grade gas, and its a automatic, the car is rated 30mg, yea, so em, think outside the box
and no it was not hho added, it was weight reduction plus low resistence tires and turning off the car at red lights and coasting on N going downhills, it's hella fun
Hi. For all the Pessimist: you can´t kill a old-mercedes diesel with veggie oil..and the 300 still works with everything... ;) with veggie oil it runs a little better, no joke.but don´t use if it is too cold outside, its to thick....good video, and greetings from germany
Thanks! Yes, it was a bit cold that day, and it does sound better warmed up. Nice of you to chime in on this one; many of these people have never had a Diesel car, much less a Mercedes Diesel, so their comments are not valid. I leave them here to show a public display of all the ignorance about this subject, and that is a great help to the cause.
@dragon64leo lol I love your reply. made me chuckle. thanks for the video. Im gonna start my quest on the running a car on old oil as soon as I find an old car to do it with. cheers
Didn't read the comments did you? The knock is highly amplified by my camera, and was present long before the car was running on cooking oil. If you were to do an experiment like this (which all you have done is record video games), would yo use a new Mercedes, or an old one? I decided to try this experiment on a car that runs, but not a big sacrifice if it blew up. I fixed the knock a year ago, and the car is still in service.
Fixed a long time ago, so many people speculated about the noise, and it turned out to be a combination of things, one was a cam bearing, the second was adjustment, and lastly, the sound is not as loud in person, the camera picked it uplouder than it was.
This works for all Mercedes diesels with indirect fuel injection. Only mod is to change the fuel lines to special fuel lines, or else the originals will develop cracking when it runs on oil.
I had a 1983 Mercedes 300 Turbodiesel. I did different tests with chemical and diesel mixes on my car and the concept works. This is not a hoax and is legit. The most important thing to keep in mind is that you need to filter the vegetable oil very well or it can cause build up in your filters and gas tank.
I understand that running veggie oil requires that you change the fuel lines or they will crack over a period of time. This car has a bad knock, btw, I would know I have bought about 7 300 series and 2 240 diesels in the past year and a half...
totally true, diesel knock also sound way worst on my video. If I didnt take a video I wouldnt have known about the knock and would have bought the truck, getting expensive problems to fix
@storkullar u dont need to change lines...all u do is filter the corn oil no addatives needed and jsut make sure its pure nothing in the corn oil that can cloag ur lines. mercedes already has a heated fuel tank so u dont have to make mods.
Nice video but I own a 1985 300D and that knock in your engine is not normal. Have it check before it does more damage ! Keep up the good work thaugh !
Wait, seriously? That's freekin awesome! It must get like 30 mpg! Wow that is a smal engine. My caddy has the 5.7 liter 8 cylinder diesel. Mine gets like 16 or something along those lines....
ok, why are u adding chemicals in ur veggie oil? run it pure, u dont need chemicals cuz the first diesel engines ran on corn oil, but if ur car has an o2 sensor then u cant run on corn oil.
oh and if ur now working on hydrogen, have this in mind, it doesnt explode...it implodes (already have an engine running on hydrogen)
Actually, the injectors will gum up in cold weather with pure used veg oil, I already proved that myself.
The Diesel fuel of today is much thinner than veg oil, hence the problem.
If you check my HHO video, I have proven the reaction is an explosion, not an implosion as stated in early theories. Only first hand experience with these reactions shows the flaws in the theories. I have already made measurements of the energy released by HHO, but I am not ready to publish this data yet, thanks!
uh huh, and u think i dont have first hand experience in this? u have 1 mercedes that runs on veggie oil with modified corn oil, with a bad injector. we have 4 mercedes all diesels that all run on used corn oil ( no chemicals add, or anything modified) just oure corn oil, and in colder weather when the "fuel" leaves ur tank its already heated by a stock mercedes heater, or did u forget germany is country with very cold winters?
I have never seen a dodge pickup in Germany. Why is it that people have to pretend to be someone else?
You need to put up your own videos, and allow people to comment (and troll) them, like I do, then maybe you will understand clearer how to discuss things with others.
#1 who said anything about us living in germany? assume much? and 2 the "dad" thing refrence shows im an 18 yr old trying to start his own life but still lives with my parents for the time being until im done with trade school, so dont act all big, cuz i can see ur the size of 2 fat men, but still, ur only half a man. and when i get some video imma make a vid and put it as a video response, so dont worry chubby, i'll make u look like an idiot soon enough.
Yeah, I see it goes to fat when you don't have a comeback...
If you are not fat now, you will be, and will regret things you have said.
Yeah right about your video response, try doing something meaningful, like a real experiment, instead of just trying to flame people, now that I would respect.
and another thing as well, if u were to produce ur own hydrogen and light it in an open container, u will see everything suck in, and then leave the container. hydrogen implodes, not explodes. and ur "little experiments" are a daily thing at our house, and dont try to reason about what a mercedes can and can not do with corn oil, we've owned mercedes my whole life, and my dads mercedes technician.
there is no tax, i can tell you that. i have a merc that runs on whatever the fuck i want, diesel, veggy oil, ect... my friend has an older f350 that runs on refined hydraulic fluid, and me and him never pay taxes on this shit. they can try to stop me, but it would hurt them badly. lol
don't try and make waves!! keep it hush hush so all of us doing this don't get caught and hammered!! I want to keep doing this w/o paying tax as long as posible
That's the great thing about the good old United States of America. From what I understand, you have to pay a tax on the vegetable oil over in the UK? In the US, you don't pay a tax. You go to a fast food resturaunt and they will give you the unfiltered used vegetable oil for nothing. Because you're doing them a favor by hauling it away for nothing.
You don't have to tax on vegetable oil. You have to pay tax on the fuel you're using to run your car.
If you buy at the gas station, the fuel tax is already included. If you make your "own" fuel, no matter where you take it from, you have a tax liability. It doesn't matter if your car runs on water or vegetable oil, you must pay excise on the fuel you are using to run your car. Period.
What, in the United States? I've never heard of that before? None of the other waste vegetable oil videos mention anything about a tax on it. The whole point of running the car on used vegetable oil is that you get the vegetable oil for free and all you have to do is filter it somehow which is cheap to do. If you have to pay a stupid tax on it, then it doesn't sound like it's worth it to me.
Get well soon. I will leave this up to show others what kind of a person you are, and maybe you will learn that you are accountable for your words even more here than in person, because these words are permanent.
yeah it works my dad has worked at the same Mercedes dealership for 29 years and we did the same thing you can also use recycled transmission fluid for gas
You need separate tanks so you can purge the fuel system of veg oil when you turn the car off otherwise the fuel system will get gunked up when the oil cools in the injectors. Still pollutes but emissions are reduced you will get slightly less mpg.
your valves sound like they need adjusted. i run my 83 300td wagon on 100 percent veggie with heat exchanger under the hood. the veggie oil will eat that 20 plus years of diesel skum off the inside of the original fuel tank and you will start clogging fuel filters. i been thru all of this
Have you noticed any difference in HP and Torgue of the car? Have you tried to start the car in winter cold? Like in -20celcius= -4fahrenheit? ps.here in Finland i have seeing this old fordson major that runs with kooking oil.but you had to start it and turn it off with diesel, otherwise it wouldnt run.
i used to have an ole benz just like that (deisel) with a cogged vaccum line and it wouldnt turn off,but it has a red stop button just like a stop steet sign lol which made it turn off
It does work fine, but on some pumps they seize, merc wil be fine even on cold veg oil.
on DI engines if u use veg for cold starts it gets into sump part burned and builds up until it sets like jelly when cold, be sure to change oil regularly and it helps to add something to the veg oil to stop deposits building up in pump.
It sounds worse than it really is, but I think it is either a tapping valve or an injector knock. It has been improved considerably from running cleaner in it, and it has been funning fine for me for 2 years.
i believe in vege oil diesel but that car don't sound too good. i like what you did. several other videos show people using pure veg oil and a few with people thinning and modifying the oil, like you. thanks.
There is a lot to be said about the noise. First off, it is dead cold, and quiets down in a few minutes, second, I drove it from SC to NJ (800 miles), without incident (Up on Diesel, down on Veg Oil). Lastly, the camera picked up the noise a lot louder than it is in real life, the real sound is just a small tick.
Thats awesome! Great job. I would like to do this to my caddy... it has a 5.7 liter diesel... but i dont know if it will hold up as well as the mercedes diesels. I love your videos, very enlightining and inventive. ;-D
It should work in a Diesel Caddy, I have heard of another person running vegetable oil in a Olds Toronado (about the same), and it is doing ok. In the American diesels, you will notice a sharp decrease in fuel economy, due to the lower compression of these diesels, compared to EU diesels, but it will still work!
Some people are naysayers, but I already know that I can do this, because I am doing veg oil in one tank, and Diesel in the next. Mainly an issue of availability, but transmission fluid is easy to get, and works well too.
my god, shut it off, shut it off! that knock is deafening! that's what happens when you burn cold SVO, even if it's cut with snake oil. you got a plugged injector (if you're lucky). that car could have a lot of life left if only you'd heat your oil. listen, if you want to do this right, it's all been done before. your "experiment" is a tremendous duplication of effort. best of luck with it, though.
The old Mercedes engines run on many flammable liquids such as waste oil, oil from deep fat fryers, oil and linseed oil. Quickstart Glowplugs and fuelpreheating are required. We have already tried some of where we thought that it runs
nice to hear some intelligent comments for a change, Yes, the engine is not picky about fuel, one of the reasons I have had very good sucess. By the way, it runs on used transmission fluid too, and I have an ample supply of that from the local shop!
I did my apprenticeship as an auto mechanic existed. And I am very interested in mechanics and electrics around the cars, trucks, tractors and anything else which has combustion engines.
We have also tried Brake fluid mixed with diesel. The result was that the engine ran smoothly but caused a lot of smoke. We also tried an alcohol-oil mixture. The result was a hole in the piston and a welded valve. We used a Mercedes OM615 of W115 200D.
I was reading a manual for an old gerdner diesel engine (11 litre, I6), it said that when u change oil, pour waste oil through a strainer and pour into fuel tank!
yup any oil will work if the pump can pump it (inline pumps only), some seize as the thicker oil cannot penetrate like diesel to lube various parts as fuel is also pump lubricant.
We used to buy veg oil from shop and use that neat instead of diesel, have to renew fuel filter as the veg cleans out the lines thats all!
very good video, dont worry about the bad comments from ppl that dont know shit about this topic. very interesting, love that sound at idle. keep it up.
Whatever the vegetable oil was fired in i.e. fish the cars exhaust will smell like it if WVO is used. But in your case I'm sure you enjoy smelling food as you drive.
There is always a few that will say foolish things! I leave them up, so they can be ashamed of what they say. The Mercedes is running very well, and I have gotten it to run on transmission fluid too. The tests were sucessful, and I am going to my HHO project next. You will see videos of that progress real soon!
Check out my other videos, and you will see my new project!
Oh yeah, block me, VERY mature! That is exactly the sort of thing I would expect from a closed-mind fanatic like you.
There is no "time coming" and an armchair internet "mechanic" wannabe like you isn't going to make a single bit of difference. What you are doing is not original in the least, it has been done MANY times before and long before you or I were born.
I dump soy oil in this car, cut with dino diesel and get 26-30 miles per gallon out of it. Great car and last a long time. Fill it with guns, and trained personnel and you are ready for a trip to the Middle East.

Actually, I am aware that veg oil has been used a Diesel for some time in Europe, but many Americans are completely unaware of this. Yep, it does smell like french fries!
Have a great day!
dragon64leo 1 year ago 2
@dragon64leo man you make it seem as if using veggie oil in a mercedes diesel is such a science...i have been using veg oil for years...here is how complex it really is folks......
find free oil....
filter it....
put on one extra in line fuel filter....
add the veg oil to your fuel tank....
drive....
if you live in cali or warm areas you will not need a line heater....
spokes person....hahahahaa thats funny !
1983benz240d 11 months ago
@1983benz240d First off, I look at the comments people make, and you should be ashamed of yourself! I see you have NO videos to show (afraid of trolls like yourself?), so you have nothing to add to this. If you were not an armchair engineer, you would understand lots of the "hows" and "whys" and would contribute, as opposed to making negative comments. I don't need a line heater, even in the winter. WHY?

How did you get your voice to be heard so clear? Were you wearing a mic?

Actually, that was the mic that is built into the camera. I didn't have to modify the audio in any way.
Thanks for asking!
dragon64leo 1 year ago
Hey I got two questions! :)
Does the car have plastic valves?
And
Does this work with more modern Benz's?
Regards
doctorh2005 1 year ago
Plastic valves? Is that a legitimate question, or a cheap shot about the knock? Maybe I didn't understand the first part of the question. Yes, the veg oil works with most Mercedes Diesels, and most European cars, as well as Dodge Cummings Diesel pickups. As far as trucks go, most Japanese trucks are fine, but keep veggie oil away from Fords.
dragon64leo 1 year ago
@doctorh2005 plastic valves? really? that it the dumbest thing i have ever heard.

mikedrazen 1 year ago
@mikedrazen you dont need to modify the fuel. just filter it and pour it into your tank.
europe0wnz 1 year ago
@europe0wnz i do filter, by mod i mean cut it with diesel or gas, or 5% white spirit, again saw it on top gear
and yea i know it runs without all that, but it flows better, gets better milage
mikedrazen 1 year ago
Hi
I run one like you do without a problem. But I found Elsbett injectors made especially for Veg oil are a good thing to use.
raticide2002 1 year ago
what do you use to heat it
halopersin 1 year ago
@halopersin no heating is needed because he modded his oil
instead of converting the car, he converted his oil
there is always a better way to do things, dont be fooled by car makers, i had a gas powered car that gets 45 mpg, running on low grade gas, and its a automatic, the car is rated 30mg, yea, so em, think outside the box
and no it was not hho added, it was weight reduction plus low resistence tires and turning off the car at red lights and coasting on N going downhills, it's hella fun
mikedrazen 1 year ago
Hi. For all the Pessimist: you can´t kill a old-mercedes diesel with veggie oil..and the 300 still works with everything... ;) with veggie oil it runs a little better, no joke.but don´t use if it is too cold outside, its to thick....good video, and greetings from germany
JuergenGM 1 year ago 15
Thanks! Yes, it was a bit cold that day, and it does sound better warmed up. Nice of you to chime in on this one; many of these people have never had a Diesel car, much less a Mercedes Diesel, so their comments are not valid. I leave them here to show a public display of all the ignorance about this subject, and that is a great help to the cause.
dragon64leo 1 year ago
@dragon64leo lol I love your reply. made me chuckle. thanks for the video. Im gonna start my quest on the running a car on old oil as soon as I find an old car to do it with. cheers
clintonious 1 year ago
nothing like destroying an perfectly fine car. congrats, your car sounds like shit now.
nnigro 1 year ago
Didn't read the comments did you? The knock is highly amplified by my camera, and was present long before the car was running on cooking oil. If you were to do an experiment like this (which all you have done is record video games), would yo use a new Mercedes, or an old one? I decided to try this experiment on a car that runs, but not a big sacrifice if it blew up. I fixed the knock a year ago, and the car is still in service.
dragon64leo 1 year ago 11
@nnigro lmao, it sounds normal to me, its sad u r paying $3 a gallon for gas when its' free for smart people, wahahhahahahaaa
mikedrazen 1 year ago
Do something with that racking sound. Sounds like one of the hydraulic lifters.
2URBO2 1 year ago
Fixed a long time ago, so many people speculated about the noise, and it turned out to be a combination of things, one was a cam bearing, the second was adjustment, and lastly, the sound is not as loud in person, the camera picked it uplouder than it was.
dragon64leo 1 year ago
nice job man
halopersin 1 year ago

dragon64leo 1 year ago
This works for all Mercedes diesels with indirect fuel injection. Only mod is to change the fuel lines to special fuel lines, or else the originals will develop cracking when it runs on oil.
jimho85 1 year ago
Yes, this is right, though the original line will last awhile.
dragon64leo 1 year ago
I had a 1983 Mercedes 300 Turbodiesel. I did different tests with chemical and diesel mixes on my car and the concept works. This is not a hoax and is legit. The most important thing to keep in mind is that you need to filter the vegetable oil very well or it can cause build up in your filters and gas tank.
korthmusic 1 year ago
Good comment! Yep, the fuel needs to be filtered to 5 microns. This level of filtering is easily achieved with denim pant leg.
dragon64leo 1 year ago
this poor old beautyful mercedes!
handlaeuter 1 year ago
It did the job, and has a new home in NC, still running, and in service.
dragon64leo 1 year ago
I understand that running veggie oil requires that you change the fuel lines or they will crack over a period of time. This car has a bad knock, btw, I would know I have bought about 7 300 series and 2 240 diesels in the past year and a half...
storkullar 2 years ago
Yes, the motor did have a knock, I fixed it awhile ago, and sold the car when I completed the tests.
The knock was picked up by the microphone of the camera a lot louder than it really was, and in reality was not excessively loud.
dragon64leo 2 years ago
totally true, diesel knock also sound way worst on my video. If I didnt take a video I wouldnt have known about the knock and would have bought the truck, getting expensive problems to fix
Veikra 1 year ago
Yes, the fuel lines developed some cracking, and I changed them.
dragon64leo 2 years ago
@storkullar u dont need to change lines...all u do is filter the corn oil no addatives needed and jsut make sure its pure nothing in the corn oil that can cloag ur lines. mercedes already has a heated fuel tank so u dont have to make mods.
europe0wnz 2 years ago
You might want to get those tappets looked at.
kazimann 2 years ago
Yeah, I already fixed it, and sold the car, I am running tests on HHO with a Geo Metro now.

dragon64leo 2 years ago

tommysbrowncaddy 2 years ago
Yes, about 33 highway, in town 27MPG, and 25MPG on vegetable oil.
Mercedes is a lot different from your Caddy, Cadillacs are nice, but Mercedes has smooth ride down to an art!
It's all good, both have their niceties.
dragon64leo 2 years ago
Indeed they do. Caddys are just huge land boats. I kinda wish I had a Mercedes now..
tommysbrowncaddy 2 years ago
ok, why are u adding chemicals in ur veggie oil? run it pure, u dont need chemicals cuz the first diesel engines ran on corn oil, but if ur car has an o2 sensor then u cant run on corn oil.
oh and if ur now working on hydrogen, have this in mind, it doesnt explode...it implodes (already have an engine running on hydrogen)
europe0wnz 2 years ago
Actually, the injectors will gum up in cold weather with pure used veg oil, I already proved that myself.
The Diesel fuel of today is much thinner than veg oil, hence the problem.
If you check my HHO video, I have proven the reaction is an explosion, not an implosion as stated in early theories. Only first hand experience with these reactions shows the flaws in the theories. I have already made measurements of the energy released by HHO, but I am not ready to publish this data yet, thanks!
dragon64leo 2 years ago
uh huh, and u think i dont have first hand experience in this? u have 1 mercedes that runs on veggie oil with modified corn oil, with a bad injector. we have 4 mercedes all diesels that all run on used corn oil ( no chemicals add, or anything modified) just oure corn oil, and in colder weather when the "fuel" leaves ur tank its already heated by a stock mercedes heater, or did u forget germany is country with very cold winters?
europe0wnz 2 years ago
I have never seen a dodge pickup in Germany. Why is it that people have to pretend to be someone else?
You need to put up your own videos, and allow people to comment (and troll) them, like I do, then maybe you will understand clearer how to discuss things with others.
dragon64leo 2 years ago
#1 who said anything about us living in germany? assume much? and 2 the "dad" thing refrence shows im an 18 yr old trying to start his own life but still lives with my parents for the time being until im done with trade school, so dont act all big, cuz i can see ur the size of 2 fat men, but still, ur only half a man. and when i get some video imma make a vid and put it as a video response, so dont worry chubby, i'll make u look like an idiot soon enough.
europe0wnz 2 years ago
Yeah, I see it goes to fat when you don't have a comeback...
If you are not fat now, you will be, and will regret things you have said.
Yeah right about your video response, try doing something meaningful, like a real experiment, instead of just trying to flame people, now that I would respect.
Data would be nice too.
Good luck, you will need it with your attitude.
dragon64leo 2 years ago
and 1 more thing, if u had any form of brain, u would go to my channel and u would see a "dodge truck" on there.

dragon64leo 2 years ago
and another thing as well, if u were to produce ur own hydrogen and light it in an open container, u will see everything suck in, and then leave the container. hydrogen implodes, not explodes. and ur "little experiments" are a daily thing at our house, and dont try to reason about what a mercedes can and can not do with corn oil, we've owned mercedes my whole life, and my dads mercedes technician.

DamnStraightM35A2 2 years ago
I am working with hydrogen right now, and they'l have to tax water to stop that!
It won't be an issue in the US, not enough Diesels to worry about.
dragon64leo 2 years ago
That's the great thing about the good old United States of America. From what I understand, you have to pay a tax on the vegetable oil over in the UK? In the US, you don't pay a tax. You go to a fast food resturaunt and they will give you the unfiltered used vegetable oil for nothing. Because you're doing them a favor by hauling it away for nothing.
bigredchevytruck 2 years ago
You don't have to tax on vegetable oil. You have to pay tax on the fuel you're using to run your car.
If you buy at the gas station, the fuel tax is already included. If you make your "own" fuel, no matter where you take it from, you have a tax liability. It doesn't matter if your car runs on water or vegetable oil, you must pay excise on the fuel you are using to run your car. Period.
badbehaviourTV 2 years ago
What, in the United States? I've never heard of that before? None of the other waste vegetable oil videos mention anything about a tax on it. The whole point of running the car on used vegetable oil is that you get the vegetable oil for free and all you have to do is filter it somehow which is cheap to do. If you have to pay a stupid tax on it, then it doesn't sound like it's worth it to me.

jonnosaurus 2 years ago
You need separate tanks so you can purge the fuel system of veg oil when you turn the car off otherwise the fuel system will get gunked up when the oil cools in the injectors. Still pollutes but emissions are reduced you will get slightly less mpg.

your valves sound like they need adjusted. i run my 83 300td wagon on 100 percent veggie with heat exchanger under the hood. the veggie oil will eat that 20 plus years of diesel skum off the inside of the original fuel tank and you will start clogging fuel filters. i been thru all of this

I am selling it, it is in South Carolina, if you know anyone that would like it.
dragon64leo 2 years ago
sorry,i dont know anybody in SC.
Mississippi1313 2 years ago
It does work fine, but on some pumps they seize, merc wil be fine even on cold veg oil.
on DI engines if u use veg for cold starts it gets into sump part burned and builds up until it sets like jelly when cold, be sure to change oil regularly and it helps to add something to the veg oil to stop deposits building up in pump.
Additive like cetane improver.
That sounds fucked!
Whats that tapping?
faulty injector?
tpvalley 2 years ago
It sounds worse than it really is, but I think it is either a tapping valve or an injector knock. It has been improved considerably from running cleaner in it, and it has been funning fine for me for 2 years.
dragon64leo 2 years ago
i believe in vege oil diesel but that car don't sound too good. i like what you did. several other videos show people using pure veg oil and a few with people thinning and modifying the oil, like you. thanks.
sabaqat 2 years ago
There is a lot to be said about the noise. First off, it is dead cold, and quiets down in a few minutes, second, I drove it from SC to NJ (800 miles), without incident (Up on Diesel, down on Veg Oil). Lastly, the camera picked up the noise a lot louder than it is in real life, the real sound is just a small tick.
dragon64leo 2 years ago
Thats awesome! Great job. I would like to do this to my caddy... it has a 5.7 liter diesel... but i dont know if it will hold up as well as the mercedes diesels. I love your videos, very enlightining and inventive. ;-D
tommysbrowncaddy 3 years ago
Hey,
It should work in a Diesel Caddy, I have heard of another person running vegetable oil in a Olds Toronado (about the same), and it is doing ok. In the American diesels, you will notice a sharp decrease in fuel economy, due to the lower compression of these diesels, compared to EU diesels, but it will still work!
Thanks for your posting!

Fear not!
Some people are naysayers, but I already know that I can do this, because I am doing veg oil in one tank, and Diesel in the next. Mainly an issue of availability, but transmission fluid is easy to get, and works well too.
dragon64leo 3 years ago
my god, shut it off, shut it off! that knock is deafening! that's what happens when you burn cold SVO, even if it's cut with snake oil. you got a plugged injector (if you're lucky). that car could have a lot of life left if only you'd heat your oil. listen, if you want to do this right, it's all been done before. your "experiment" is a tremendous duplication of effort. best of luck with it, though.
spamaduke 3 years ago
Well, the knock has been long gone a long time now, it was partly the injector. and partly valve adjustment.
Appreciate your comments, I took it on a 1,600 mile trip recently, and it has been fine.
dragon64leo 3 years ago
The old Mercedes engines run on many flammable liquids such as waste oil, oil from deep fat fryers, oil and linseed oil. Quickstart Glowplugs and fuelpreheating are required. We have already tried some of where we thought that it runs
JBOGermany 3 years ago
Hey,
nice to hear some intelligent comments for a change, Yes, the engine is not picky about fuel, one of the reasons I have had very good sucess. By the way, it runs on used transmission fluid too, and I have an ample supply of that from the local shop!
Thanks again!

Thanks
I did my apprenticeship as an auto mechanic existed. And I am very interested in mechanics and electrics around the cars, trucks, tractors and anything else which has combustion engines.
We have also tried Brake fluid mixed with diesel. The result was that the engine ran smoothly but caused a lot of smoke. We also tried an alcohol-oil mixture. The result was a hole in the piston and a welded valve. We used a Mercedes OM615 of W115 200D.
JBOGermany 3 years ago
We used the engine, because of this, nor the injection pump with its own oil (red cap) had
JBOGermany 3 years ago
Wait you can run a diesel on used tranny fluid?
StillenGtr17 3 years ago
Yes, you can!
dragon64leo 3 years ago
I was reading a manual for an old gerdner diesel engine (11 litre, I6), it said that when u change oil, pour waste oil through a strainer and pour into fuel tank!
yup any oil will work if the pump can pump it (inline pumps only), some seize as the thicker oil cannot penetrate like diesel to lube various parts as fuel is also pump lubricant.
We used to buy veg oil from shop and use that neat instead of diesel, have to renew fuel filter as the veg cleans out the lines thats all!
tpvalley 2 years ago
Last week, someone gave me a case of power steering fluid, runs fine on that too! Power steering fluid is essentially the same as tranny fluid.
dragon64leo 2 years ago
an italian tune up can help with taps (thrash the pants off it for an hour or so!).
U can use heated animal fat also but the calorific value is lower than diesel and its a real clog hazard should it cool.
