Aviv Geffens solo stuff is brilliant, at times better than Blackfield. (I'd take Geffen's discography over Blackfields because, well, there's more of it)
The vocals aren't as pretty, but what amazing, emotional songwriting.
Aviv's voice is an acquired taste, but there's no denying the emotional depth of this performance. Those of you who haven't heard his solo work in Hebrew really ought to check it out. He's an outstanding songwriting and performer.
I just discovered this song today and I'm in love. And I listened repeatedly to this version and the one sung by S. Wilson. They're both beautiful, if defferent. Wilson has smooth vocals whereas Geffen's voice is a bit rough and here he sings with such passion you can't help but be moved by it. I love both versions.
I think he should sing this song cause he made it any ways. No one else will sing HIS song as good as he can do it. For steven fans out there. Yes he's good. They are both extra-ordinary composing singers.
I think part of his voice is just his natural language and accent. Wilson has an amazing voice, but I dunno, I kinda like Aviv's voice at times. It's very suitable for some songs.
I wish I could hear some of his songs in their original Hebrew. For those of you not aware, about half of Blackfield's songs are his songs, just translated into English.
I dont mean to offend anyone, and specially "uglyrats" but i think this performance is sick as dope, that guy really knows what he's up to. That feeling has a non-stopping motion, just can't refuse it, it's a fact. And coming also from a musician as i am myself, the cracking in his voice is very unique, not alot of singers i have seen have this way of style, comes from the feeling induced.
Maybe you need to check out Steven's other work then. Not only is he a better singer, but as a musician and talent he's very inspiring. Porcupine Tree is one of the best bands of the generation. No-Man is a great project in its own sense, his solo career is more than worth a look, and there are other projects still.
@Eliasoz For sure. And in addition, he's been a producer for countless other bands in the studio, including Opeth, who is also an absolutely FANTASTIC band.
Yes, Steven Wilson sings the lead vocals on this song on the album. Aviv provided backing vocals. This is from the Live in New York DVD, where Aviv performs the song solo.
@jez12 FYI, aviv wrote a big part of those songs, long long time ago, in hebrew. they just took it and changed it to english. Most of the songs you hear were a BIG BIG hit in israel, way before blackfield started. This song is one of them.
For all those who thinks that he "just" performming Steven Wilson's song
I hope you know that it's Aviv's song:

Glad to hear this. He seems better as a keyboardist than guitarist. I really love the combination of his writing with Steven's input. It's all good.
