No it isn't. Though we can use magnetic attraction and repulsion to do work, an energy source is required. Consider the simplest of examples: we gain energy when two magnets attract, but it takes at least the same amount of energy to pull the magnets apart again. The dipole has zero net energy. Also the video you linked to is a known fake. Roobert33 has routinely and consistently said so. The rotor was spun with an air compressor nozzle off camera.

Yes, magnets eventually expire; a manufacturer posted website states that high quality magnets will lose 1% of their magnetic field every ten years. But, what about keepers? Can you not connect the North and South Pole with a keeper? True, this essentially “short circuits” a magnet, but is it not still a magnet with its keeper in place? Does it still attract and repel? Will the keeper allow its magnetic lines of flux freely rotate within domains and “keep” that magnets strength?

I took a 1x1x1/2 neo magnet and put it on my refrigerator door and was able to slam it closed from 8" away while holding a 2x2x1/2 neo magnet in my hand. I supplied the kinetic energy but the magnet in my hand was EIGHT inches away from the door closing it. To me, that shows that the magnet has the ability if used properly to move someting

The force required get a magnet in a position to repel is equal to the force that would be released when they do repel. Thus no net change in force. This isn't perpetual motion. Magnets take energy to make, and wear out after repeated field perturbations. I suspect more energy is put into the construction of the magnets than is gotten out through this mechanism.

I HATE the ignorant "geniuses" that keep saying "do _Blank_ and you will get rid of the gate!" People there is NOT a way to get rid of the gate, only ways to get around it. The whole concept behind the V-gate is that the "runner" magnet is attracted to the wider set "track" magnets. But, this is the very reason the gate exists. because once it reaches the widest set track magnets it will not go past them because it has the strongest attraction to them.
@markusariliu Anything you do to try and get rid of the gate will only change the aspects of the gate not get rid of it. if you try to make the "end" of the track fade away instead of come up to a sudden stop you simply dampen the effect or stretch it out.

The gate disappears when the V is opened up, don’t you get it, the widening gap provides a diminishing field. Propel a magnetically permeable material in the center, not a magnet or “runner bar” as you suggest. I used chrome steel in the center, use this because it conducts magnetic fields, not producing its own, and when the gap widens, it can escape.
@michaelqshaw I am not sure what you are arguing. I have watched all of your vids, and the only thing you have successfully shown is that you can roll a ball down a ramp. In fact in most of the slots where you have your magnets you can actually see the ball slow down instead of speed up. although there are some vids where your concept seems to work. if you could please upload a video that explains what you are doing instead of just picking up and placing ball bearings that would be great!

For this work, the designers need to let gravity work for them and not against them, in this design it must lift up at the top to skip the gate, requiring work to be done, as if it was done by hand in his experiments, then -he was doing the work. Replace the central magnet with a magnetically permeable material, sphere, oval, teardrop or diamond, positioned in the center on the rotor.

There is no "Sticky Spot" in the opposite direction. The "V" opens up at the end, Propulsion is based on the total field strength in the length. The "width" field strength remains the same. There is no supposed "Gate". I made a nine foot propulsion track and ran it in both directions. There is not a "Gate" in the opposite direction, use a magnetically permeable material, not a magnet as a driven element, it can break free and continue on at the end, gravity and magnetic propulsion.

The Magnets create a Pressure on the Copper Wire, so the Design would need to Benefit how the Energy is Captured and Moved through the Copper Wire.... Instead of One V, Use 9 Smaller Vs, which Converge into eachother at a Point, The Force Pushing the Magnets Is Stronger than The Comibned Points on the Disk, They Need to Be Equal to The Push Force of the Pulsing Magnet. The Distance Between each set on the Disk needs to be Equal also to the Force of the Upper Pulse Magnet. I post some ideas soon.
You needed to use Copper Wire Wrapped around it to absorb the Energy created everytime the cycle repeates, Then allow the Excess power created to cycle back into the Motor to push it round faster each cycle, over time the cycle will get faster and faster creating more output of energy per second. The Faster the Cycle repeates the More Power is generated per second. You stated off the Design but did not finish it. It needs to have something that can capture the energy and recycle part of it back.
Definitely not perpetual motion magnets always need replacing after about 50 years so having magnets in it is what disqualifies it as they wear out the design spins ok though but doesn't do hardly any work though just enough to keep spinning till the magnets die.
just to add something, i have watched a few v gate and other magnetic vids on here, and most that seem to work, aren't using repulsion, but attraction, that is why the bar doesn't get pushed up. which is the way i would build this concept if i had money to waste to build it.

Actually it could work if you added drive mags instead of just the on set. Using a curved armature set that surrounds as much of the axle assembly as possible. Using the base as a pinion point for armatures and connecting the tops with some type of adjustment screw system to move the armatures farther or closer to the axle assembly. From the small bar type mags you should be able to use more drive mags that will over power the "sticky spot" at the gate. Just a random thought. Good job sir!

I think if 8 of these were placed side to side offset in a way where 7 of them were overcoming the stickypoint of the one particular module in the cycle you might not neet such a flywheel but you would want to eliminate the sticky points of each module because they would be a form of resistance that over time would shake at higher rpms. change the flywheel to piston arms geared to push the bar magnet away as the rotary motion comes around. counter weights are needed .like a v8 engine.

This definately will not work. The problem is with your little method to have the magnet jump up once it gets to the end so that it clears to the beginning stage again is that not only is that force is required to hold the magnet DOWN for the rest of the track. Without the magnet being secure the rig will simply push the magnet up instead of rotating.
@jakromm - I am fully aware of why this will not work, the description states clearly that "I know it is completely impossible". The project was aimed only to create an elaborate desk toy that was interesting to play with, it is a demonstration of why perpetual motion is (unfortunately) never going to work.
This is just a subject that interests me, as it has many others for many hundreds of years.

No it isn't. Though we can use magnetic attraction and repulsion to do work, an energy source is required. Consider the simplest of examples: we gain energy when two magnets attract, but it takes at least the same amount of energy to pull the magnets apart again. The dipole has zero net energy. Also the video you linked to is a known fake. Roobert33 has routinely and consistently said so. The rotor was spun with an air compressor nozzle off camera.

However such an environment does not exist, and even if it did, the device would be utterly useless. Yes, magnets eventually expire; a manufacturer posted website states that high quality magnets will lose 1% of their magnetic field every ten years. But, what about keepers? Can you not connect the North and South Pole with a keeper? True, this essentially “short circuits” a magnet, but is it not still a magnet with its keeper in place? Does it still attract and repel? Will the keeper allow its magnetic lines of flux freely rotate within domains and “keep” that magnets strength?

For those that are not familiar with the operation of common electrical motors, I was discussing mainly a direct current (DC) electrical motor,because we do not ever replace the primary magnets, like an electrical motor, the flowing electrical current sets-up and even provides the rotating magnetic field for common motors. Still, motors move "because" of magnetism. So, just try and tell me…that a magnetically propelled motor is not possible with magnets arranged in a rotational pattern.

The force required get a magnet in a position to repel is equal to the force that would be released when they do repel. Thus no net change in force. No device can be magnetic powered as there is no energy in such a system.

This isn't perpetual motion. Magnets take energy to make, and wear out after repeated field perturbations. I suspect more energy is put into the construction of the magnets than is gotten out through this mechanism.

Yes it does remove the “so called” gate, otherwise I would not have been able to produce continuous motion for over 9ft. What you then get is propulsion force, from the left and right. I HATE the ignorant "geniuses" that keep saying "do _Blank_ and you will get rid of the gate!" People there is NOT a way to get rid of the gate, only ways to get around it. The whole concept behind the V-gate is that the "runner" magnet is attracted to the wider set "track" magnets. But, this is the very reason the gate exists. because once it reaches the widest set track magnets it will not go past them because it has the strongest attraction to them.

It operates like a sling-shot once it obtains escape velocity to the opening with a weakening field, otherwise use gravity, it works well, to "drop out” to escape the field strength of only height of the magnets, not the total of the length, using gravity as a downward force on exit. If you place a magnet on the left and right of an object, what determines the direction? You must build the direction of travel into your design.

The gate disappears when the V is opened up, don’t you get it, the widening gap provides a diminishing field. Propel a magnetically permeable material in the center, not a magnet or “runner bar” as you suggest. I used chrome steel in the center, use this because it conducts magnetic fields, not producing its own, and when the gap widens, it can escape.

In fact in most of the slots where you have your magnets you can actually see the ball slow down instead of speed up. although there are some vids where your concept seems to work. if you could please upload a video that explains what you are doing instead of just picking up and placing ball bearings that would be great!

Even in this video you show the person does not get rid of the V-gate, but simply and cleverly skates around it. I personally do not know if that person faked the video but it is a design I am testing myself now.

For this work, the designers need to let gravity work for them and not against them, in this design it must lift up at the top to skip the gate, requiring work to be done, as if it was done by hand in his experiments, then -he was doing the work. The “V” should be widened to remove the gate and placed on the outer stationary upward portion of the unit. Replace the central magnet with a magnetically permeable material, sphere, oval, teardrop or diamond, positioned in the center on the rotor.

There is no "Sticky Spot" in the opposite direction. The "V" opens up at the end, Propulsion is based on the total field strength in the length. The "width" field strength remains the same. There is no supposed "Gate". I made a nine foot propulsion track and ran it in both directions. There is not a "Gate" in the opposite direction, use a magnetically permeable material, not a magnet as a driven element, it can break free and continue on at the end, gravity and magnetic propulsion.

No work is being done. Get it? If the magnets is allowed to move (due to the force) then work is done. But it requires the same amount of work to pull the magnet back to the starting point. Therefore no net gain That's why magnetic motors can't work.

The Magnets create a Pressure on the Copper Wire, so the Design would need to Benefit how the Energy is Captured and Moved through the Copper Wire.... Instead of One V, Use 9 Smaller Vs, which Converge into eachother at a Point, The Force Pushing the Magnets Is Stronger than The Comibned Points on the Disk, They Need to Be Equal to The Push Force of the Pulsing Magnet. The Distance Between each set on the Disk needs to be Equal also to the Force of the Upper Pulse Magnet. I post some ideas soon.

You needed to use Copper Wire Wrapped around it to absorb the Energy created everytime the cycle repeates, Then allow the Excess power created to cycle back into the Motor to push it round faster each cycle, over time the cycle will get faster and faster creating more output of energy per second. The Faster the Cycle repeates the More Power is generated per second. You stated off the Design but did not finish it. It needs to have something that can capture the energy and recycle part of it back.

Definitely not perpetual motion magnets always need replacing after about 50 years so having magnets in it is what disqualifies it as they wear out the design spins ok though but doesn't do hardly any work though just enough to keep spinning till the magnets die.

just to add something, i have watched a few v gate and other magnetic vids on here, and most that seem to work, aren't using repulsion, but attraction, that is why the bar doesn't get pushed up. which is the way i would build this concept if i had money to waste to build it.
saying it won't work without proof is not a good thing either.

Obviously proving "this is not going to work" is much easer than to make it work by correct configuration.. :)
And if you look how mechanisms in mother Nature work, the most of them could be called as Perpetual Motion machines - for example, how Moon spins around Earth and then Earth spins around Sun and motion lasts for billions of years until Sun goes out and Moon still spins around Earth without slowing down orbit... (!)

Actually it could work if you added drive mags instead of just the on set. Using a curved armature set that surrounds as much of the axle assembly as possible. Using the base as a pinion point for armatures and connecting the tops with some type of adjustment screw system to move the armatures farther or closer to the axle assembly. From the small bar type mags you should be able to use more drive mags that will over power the "sticky spot" at the gate. Just a random thought. Good job sir!

I think if 8 of these were placed side to side offset in a way where 7 of them were overcoming the stickypoint of the one particular module in the cycle you might not neet such a flywheel but you would want to eliminate the sticky points of each module because they would be a form of resistance that over time would shake at higher rpms. change the flywheel to piston arms geared to push the bar magnet away as the rotary motion comes around. counter weights are needed .like a v8 engine.

This definately will not work. The problem is with your little method to have the magnet jump up once it gets to the end so that it clears to the beginning stage again is that not only is that force is required to hold the magnet DOWN for the rest of the track. Without the magnet being secure the rig will simply push the magnet up instead of rotating.

@jakromm - I am fully aware of why this will not work, the description states clearly that "I know it is completely impossible". The project was aimed only to create an elaborate desk toy that was interesting to play with, it is a demonstration of why perpetual motion is (unfortunately) never going to work.
This is just a subject that interests me, as it has many others for many hundreds of years.
