  • ROFL awesome song! XD I never knew that's why they did the episode. (My favourite line: "A claustrophobic thriller" - too true!) This was the scariest DW episode in history, hands down... I was clinging to my mom all through the episode. :P

  • @PaddySnuffles Glad you liked the song. Gladder you liked the episode.

  • just saying trock Is no more as silly as christian rock, is actually a lot better.... DOCTOR WHO!!!!!!!!

  • Midnight was awesome because of Colin Morgan. :)

this song was awesome because it was about Midnight. :D

  • This totally made my day, and I learned something. I had no idea the episode was a product of excellent budgeting :)

  • Hehe, this made me smile (:

Great song! I would never have guessed the episode was supposed to be really cost efficient.

  • I never even thought about it being cheaply made. xD Witty observation and great song, sir. "Midnight" is possibly my favorite episode of Doctor Who ever.

  • I love Midnight. This is brilliant. It made my day.

  • @BotheringTrees Thanks so much.

  • yes, running is too expensive. lol

  • @sheleftmalfoy Seriously. If you're going to run, you need to find or build a bigger set, light a broader area, do more camera setups, dolly tracks.

  • ... I thought Midnight was a really good episode. scared the pants offa me.

  • one of my fave episodes

    great song bud :)

  • this was one of the best episodes in my opinion

  • LOLZ i love this!!

  • This is amazing. XD

    Love. <3

  • That was part of it, the cost that is. Also they do it because of scheduling to allow the filming of all the episodes in the time they had. Turn left was done at the same time.

Also the guy who plays BBC's young Merlin was the boy.

  • Hahaha that was simply mean. And also uh, what's the word, hilarious. Not half bad musically either. :)

  • YOU'RE AWESOME. LIKE LITERALLY AMAZING.

    BEST. SONG. EVER. XD

  • You're like the Tom Lehrer of Trock.

    Truly awesome. lol

  • *giggles* "Russell T. Davies please help!" I think it's that one episode which convinced the BBC that Colin Morgan deserves his own show. Though, Merlin is a SERIOUS departure from Jethro.

  • Midnight: it may have been a cheap one but it was a good one. I thought it was an amazing insight into human psychology. The episode seemed to me a nod to how people would actually react to the doctor in these situations were it real.

  • I completely agree. That's why I thought it was worth a song. If it were only cheap, I wouldn't have bothered. It's one of my favorite episodes. (for the acting as well as the writing)

  • i think that the episode is alot like the old twilight zone episode "Monsters on Maple Street"

  • i remember they also did a cut cost episode in series 2, where most of it was shot in a girls bedroom, and on a street.

  • Quite possibly the greatest Doctor Who episode ever - because of its simplicity. Very, very, very impressive piece of writing.

    Thanks for the song! Clever.

  • Hooray!

  • After watching this video I have learnt two things.

    1. You have a great voice for presenting- You sound just like Terry Wolgan

    2. Trock is hilariously funny and I will be watching more

Awesome, funny video. Well done for coming up with it.

  • This is catchy!

  • Pretty cool =p

You'd look much younger if you shaved the rest of your head though ^^

  • Thanks. And thanks for the tip. Assuming, of course, that I want to look much younger.

  • midnight doesnt actaully scare you out of your pants as much the second time around. its still very scary though.

  • After a few viewings, it gets almost funny. The rhythm of the dialog is amazing. It's music. Besides, if you're out of your pants after the first viewing.... what's left for the second?

  • Hahaah that is brilliant! I did love that episode, but I never realised how clever it was from a budgetary perspective.

If by any miracle I should bump into him on the streets of Cardiff, I'll tell Mr Davies about this song!

  • woah, you sound like terry wogan.

  • you sound JUST like terry wogan... :O:O:O

  • hah i thought that he does sound quite similair

  • OMG -That exactly what I thought.

  • Mickeleh,

.. a good friend of mine is a sex therapist .. A coupla' years back at AASECT we attended a workshop on "A Video History of the Marriage Manual". ..

.. anyway a producer of one of the works dating from 1971 warned us that "we will be hearing alot of sitars .. nothing else -- just sitars .. 'cuz [they] were on a budget."

.. but a low budget song about being on .. well .. a low budget! .. that brings it full circle .. lol!!

  • I love this comment. Made me laugh out loud, as the acronym goes.

  • Where could I get a 404 shirt?

  • I got the shirt online from a UK distributor called NTKMart. You'll have to Google for it, YouTube won't let me post a URL.

Of course, Google will think you mean K-mart. But you don't. You really mean "NTKMart: the revolution will be commodified"

  • lol K-Mart! We don't have K-Mart in Canada anymore. We used to when I was a kid but it's been probably 15 years since they closed them.

  • You are awesome :)

You are the coolest person I've seen on youtube. :) you seem so nice!! =D

  • Mickeleh + Trock = Epic Win.

Midnight was one of my favourites too, so thanks! Doctor Who is often at its best when it's at it's cheapest.

One nitpicky nerd complaint though: Russel T Davies's last name is pronounced like "Davis" (Sorry if somebody already pointed this out).

  • Thanks for the correction. AFIK you're the first to point that out. I'm glad to know. It's much easier to sing with the correct pronunciation. If I ever do this song again...

  • I didn't know you could sing. Or did I? I guess thats what I get for watching your videos sporadically and in no particular order

  • What I do is not exactly singing. But a near approximation. BTW right in the middle of my channel is a big ol' playlist labeled "Mickeleh Songbook"

  • Oh, man your lyrics were great! Haha.

  • You sound like Stan Lee lol AWESOME!

  • I did not know that. That is awesome.

  • Guilty as charged. Thanks for the comment.

  • AAHHH!!!! YAY! you are such a nerd, i love that episode

  • yay! I found the reason why I subscribed!!

    it was this video!

now I'm going to comment again on your last video...

    sorry for spamming your inbox!

  • Hearing from you is never spam. (unless you start to go all hater on me... but that won't happen. Right?)

  • trock wrocks. i loved Midnight...

  • Me too. And thanks.

  • haha that soo awesome

  • Great song :)

  • Great song! I thought Midnight was a good episode, despite production cuts. ;)

  • I love that episode--not despite the cost-saving, but because of it. They created enormous tension and creepiness on a (relative) shoestring.

  • Trock is at it's best when it's breaking the fourth wall.

  • Actually, trock is best when the album ships ;-) You guys were tempting fate to name your band for a non-functioning component of the TARDIS.

  • Dr. Who! One of my favorite shows growing up.

"In honor of the high notes which are not found." I love it.

The intimate close-up at the end is great.

  • Actually, it was an audio choice more than a visual one. I wanted to sing it softly. And the mic is mounted on the camera... so I moved closer. The visual intimacy is just a bonus.

"Growing up?" If all you've seen are the older series, you have a big treat in store catching up with the Doctor's twenty-first century revival.

  • Great Song, the best thing about that episode was that it was the cheapest, and scariest I've ever seen.

    Doctor Who Rocks!

  • It starts by not resisting constraints, but celebrating them. I admire this episode enormously because of the way Davies created huge tension and fear on a small budget.

  • glad to hear it. Maybe one day you'll chuckle to me.

  • Haha, love it. =D

  • Thanks so much. It means a lot. Trockolate Rain is still my top fave Trock song. (link in the sidebar, folks. ----->)

  • XD Why thank you sir!

  • Way to trock out Mikeleh! :)

  • Thinking of changing my name to Trocatollah.

  • Ah Mickeleh, you never ftba. :]

  • Thanks, but actually, I do sometimes. But I try to keep those off camera.

  • wooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • The Tardis wasn't in that one, was it?

I really liked this episode. It was quite Twilight Zone to me, which made me happy. :)

  • not quite trock, as it's more about the production team (which i agree, are a total failure) but still fantastic :)

  • I agree it's not quite trock. It's meta-trock since it breaks the fourth wall. It's also about as far from rock as you can get.

But I disagree entirely that the production team are a failure. Doing Midnight on the cheap was a brilliant move for getting more effects budget into some of the other episodes.

  • Brilliant little song there :)

Love the tune and the lyrics are great too ^_^

  • yes! that is amazing! but i like the torchwood crossovers.

    i love this song!

  • I love the crossovers as well. But iif there were Torchwoodians in every episode, would it still be Doctor Who?

  • i guess not, it would just be Russell T Davies fest/playground

just through in Sarah Jane Adventures and RTD would have a field day :P

  • watching this video makes me want to subscribe to you, but i already am. :(

therefore this song makes me feel happy and sad, that tell-tale traits of a masterpiece!

  • Slacker... open another account and subscribe again ;-) Thanks for the comment.

  • Now that's a lovely, lovely song. I must search out this episode and study for future production ideas in today's crunch. And must have this shirt. Well, not THIS shirt. One in my size.

    You are great, Michael. More!

  • That 404 shirt is cool. If ound the song amusing but i don't know Dr.Who which kind of misses the point for me- They just seem to lack money! nice rythmes!

  • For someone bewildered and skeptical of all your friends with ukuleles, you're sure playing one. :)

    Fun song!

  • Bewildering, isn't it? A rational explanation: because I was bewildered and skeptical, I had to undertake a personal investigation. Now I'm bewildered that I waited so long and skeptical that I'll get really good on it. (Got the uke on Jan 9)

  • Aaaah, that was a thousand different types of brilliant, I'm amazed nobody brought that up about midnight before! Great job! XD

  • A thousand types of thanks. I once read a book about Star Trek TOS that sensitized me to the issue. On Star Trek they'd save money by doing some shows where all scenes took place on the Enterprise--so they didn't have to build extra sets.

  • nicely done sir :D

  • Loved it! =)

  • hahaha, this is beautiful <3 I've read Russell's book the Writer's Tale, and there are a lot of money concerns around the production of series 4 of the show, so this is extra-fantastic :D

  • Thanks, Alex. Means much to have the approval of the inventor of the genre. (And yet another book to go on my to do list.)

  • Brilliant! A very worthy addition to Trock. Hilarious to see that YouTube's computers think that Trock is another truck. The main difference is that Trock is a boom industry whereas......

  • You may find it hilarious. It might also be helpful or insulting: Trock is probably still not in YouTube's dictionary. So they take it as a typo for truck.

  • Oh, yes... I'm very happy you liked the song.

  • I really enjoyed this! and I think you're right about 'Midnight' being written to save some money ^__^

  • brilliant! : )

  • Thanks.

  • Mick what a comeback. Brillant song. I loved the midnight episode.

  • Thanks, Barry. I had fun writing the song. Did you notice, among the other money-saving elements in the episode, that they even saved on dialog? Half the time the actors simply repeat what other actors are saying. Now that's thrift.

  • I noticed that with the dialogue too within the Midnight episode. I think they have re-used dialogue in many other episodes as well.

  • A worthy addition to the genre :-)

  • this was awesome!!

  • He he I have a "404 not found" shirt :)

    this made me giggle :)

  • And your comment made ME giggle. :D

  • -[ holds up lighter ]- well done M =-]

  • I guess I'll have to do an encore. (but it may take a while)

  • This. Is. Amazing!!!!!

    <3 lol!!!!! YES!!

    totally laughing the entire time!!!

    so true

    -Mary Kate

  • <333 I'm very happy you enjoyed it. :D

  • they should show this in film schools and fine financial institution across the nation

  • It's getting to where running a financial institution is as risky as running a film school ;-)

  • i think you have the best talking voice. possibly better than michael aranda's! :D and i love your music style!

  • Thanks so much. But in respect to Michael Aranda, I have to add, "possibly not." ;-)

  • haha, well okay, maybe not. but i would venture to say it's close.

  • YOU ARE AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!one!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks. BTW: You must get a real good price on those exclamation points. Do you get them in bulk at Costco? ;-)

  • I used to buy them individually but I started buying in bulk after the recession started. ;-)

  • that t-shirt is awesome.

    And Trock is awesomer.

Yeah that's right.. I said awesomer.

  • And your comment is awesomest. thanks.

  • haha brilliant. I adore it. Meta-songs ftw.

  • Always honor the writer. Dr. Who has a credit right up front where the episode title says: Midnight by Russell T. Davies

You never see a credit like that in U.S. TV

  • was about to say that I really need to see that episode now!, but then... hrmm maybe not

    ...

a thriller! well then THaT's settled!

    and an excellent song!

  • It's brilliantly written. It's amazing what a great writer can do within constraints.

  • ha! nice job!

  • Haha. This was brilliant.

No one even needs to watch Dr. Who to appreciate this.

  • Thanks much. I appreciate your saying so. (But people who know the series might appreciate it even more. Jus' sayin')

  • Fantastic!!! Really really awesome!

I wanna get that 404 shirt too :D

  • I got the shirt online from a UK distributor called NTKMart. You'll have to Google for it, YouTube won't let me post a URL.

Of course, Google will think you mean K-mart. But you don't. You really mean "NTKMart: the revolution will be commodified"

  • that was great!!! ;-D i love it
