The DJ played this song at my Dad's 5th wedding reception. Let me tell you. That reception went from "typical wedding etiquette to "awwww shit!" as soon as you heard the first note. You could hear everyone's forks hit their plates as about 500 chairs slid out. Every seat was empty. Everyone from one to 92 was doing their own thing on the dance floor. I can only hope that one day my music will affect people this way.
I remember this track! a DJ friend who was much more eclectic and well traveled (USMC brat) than the rest of us small-town country kids turned me on to this, Parliament, EU, Gil Scott-Heron, Little Feat, and a ton of other cool stuff. This is just plain old good jams!
My is son is 12 and love this song to death. All black and hispanics should share this music with their kids. This is the foundation of rap and hiphop. Old school.
I'm believin that Chuck Brown is the Godfather of Go-Go music in DC. Saw these brothers perform at Duff-A-Go-Go in Suitland Maryland back in '77 before they hit big. I think they were like the house band or something. Lord have mercy! Burned the joint down! Gotta shout out to Chocolate City....when they party....they party hearty!
During my sophomore year of college, this song came out and some people thought Brown said, "I feel like Buck Belue" a local football hero (widely known now). So my best friend and I changed the phrase "gimme the bridge yall" to "gimme the ball yall." We had a blast screwing up this song.
@SgtRock57 That's hysterical!! I remember that guy Buck! He was a quarterback at UGA -in fact he might have been there with Herschel Walker. That must be epic to have your own theme song, even if it's purely accidental lol!!
I loved growing up in D.C. where this s*** was being blasted everywhere! One of the most underappreciated Godfathers of funk as there ever were. You think this is cool, you gotta see a show...non-stop party! Love you Chuck Brown!
@sidirom >I know how you feel! This jam was at every party the year this dropped (78) in NYC and Long Island and I was at every party with my friends. How I got through college is beyond me the way I partied! LOL! This band was definitely under-rated big time! I hear it now and start dancing! Saw him at the Apollo Theater and he brought the house down!
@sidirom HE's the GODFATHER OF GO GO !!! He did a halftime show at the REDSKINS Game...I had sold those tickets before I knew he was playing the ha;ftme show ! :-(
Every time i hear this I feel like bustin loose! Funny I met the manager who promoted Chuck and the Soul Searchers. He was this unassuming white guy who moonlighted for a black car service in NYC. We moonlighted together. He was a cool guy! Great tune.
GoGo Classic all the way. Damn funky stuff, always on my ipod. It's one of those make-you-feel-so-damn-good songs in the history of music. Thnks Chuck!
this is hella funky! its b-side, 'could it be love', has gotta be one of the most sensual tunes in the history of soul! its absence from youtube is a tragedy!
lol My grandpa listens to this, so does my grandma(African American). My sister and I used to laugh at them, but honestly, this music isn't bad. I heard it on this Reese's cookie commercial and laughed, not bc I didn't like the song but bc it was so random lol

Lots of little Nigger babys cocceived to this jam.Chuck Brown should be paying for half of the child support for all babys born between 1978 and 1985.
I was in the Army in the late 70's and early 80's.When I was stationed out west,Dudes were trippin' off my go-go tapes. They had never heard of Chuck Brown,Trouble Funk,E.U.,Junkyard Band,orPleasure(an all girl GO-Go band).Back then this was D.C.,East Coastr only
Love this song. I remember this song when I heard it on the Chips Ahoy commercial. I agree one of the best funk songs ever. Sinbad used to have this as his opening to his comedy act. Awesome.

I believe he's talking about the music term "bridge" which is the instramental break between the lyrics. it's has been used in many old blues songs and rock tunes also.
The kind of funk that worms into your mind and wiggles 4ever ! Olde English 800, some brown weed rolled up in cutcorners zig-zags, and some fine big-booty sistas with jerri curl juice slangin on the dance flo. The Workshop in L.A. on Western and 91st in 1978 was the get high, get girls and get funked up spizot in the hood.

The production values on this recording boggle the mind. Layers of percussion, more layers of keyboards, vocals, handclaps,
horns, bongos, cymbals, funky rhythm guitar, bangin bass,
all laid upon each other like a perfectly built entity that comes more to life each time it's played.
