  • no AC at 5150, huh? too funky for me

  • a pkace to play on one;s own, i do it all the time, so how can you ar i deny the fellow to do it, too?

    nice wank, sir!

  • The King of harmonics!

  • Iggy Pop is really not a good look past a certain age...and this is that age.

  • @premiumgas69 it's rock and fucking roll, as you say, sir, or ma'am. we have never been very good looking, that is why we do what we do, sir, or ma'am.

  • @Corkskrew999 we stink on the inside, (where it counts)

  • Look ppl...I lost interest after Sammy took over. I was looking for some old VH to add to my catalog. Then I found at a this vid. What an amazing transition for Eddie.I am so happy for him that he has found his soul Even way back in the old days, I mean before they were called VH I met up with him at a club.We were both playing that nigh t and he blew me away, but he had no soul.Even back then I was taught that U must get in touch with who U R.He finally did it and for that hat's off to ya Eddie.)

  • @MjEdwards826 I'm from those days as well. Who'd you play with back then? Starwood or Gazzarri's or in the valley?

  • @BellumSacrumBellum28 ....Hey BSB...I played all those venues and more..I was in a band called "WasteLands" at that time, believe it or not...the names we came up with..Was in many bands after that...I never found "Rock Star" status but ended up doing lots of studio work..but I have met all the best from those days including Randy Rhoads...He taught me many things.."Know who U R".."Play from ur Heart"..Eddie was good for that time and learned "Tapping" from him...Ty 4 reply

  • too bad he's shown himself to be such an asshole over the years....I think karma bit him hard. Maybe he's changed, but I doubt it. I was the biggest fan for years, but he'll never see another nickel of mine.. I don't care how great the new album is...

  • no lo banco, aguante PAUL GILBERT!!!

    Just a wank.

Maybe he tought you'd like to know...

    or somet5hing.

  • HOLY SHIT! That's some of the most awesome playing I have seen from ED in a Long time. He is no doubt the king daddy in my book and has left the biggest legacy in rock n roll guitar as well as rock music over the last 35 years. Way to go Mr. Van Halen.

  • "Smellin' the barn"...at 2:17 close up written on the snare...

  • You all know this was done for a porn movie, right?

  • @Pacfanweb well, then it is for sure that was a good fuck!! hahaha is an orgasmic song! ;)

  • That man is truly amazing!

  • As a guitar player myself i can tell you how hard it is to just let your soul speak...this is the best Ed's soul I've ever heard..powerful emotions!

  • this shit is sick, It's a warning!!!

  • Love the first 4 albums, but this comes off trite... and a tad cheesy.

  • To all the critics, I have one word for this bloke - LEGEND!!!

  • @kanemnm You are absolutely right. I just am not diggin this at all.

  • sounds like"respect the wind" ending soundtrack from twister movie. Eddie still has strong hands. I hear it in his playing. Miss the old brown sound crunch.

  • I agree Satriani rules but if we're going to say someone is the greatest then commercially successful songwriting has to be factored in and that makes Eddie the King, like it or not. There is no one in this generation that can touch him.

  • @MrArtist1971 i dont know how Satriani keeps coming back so strong he has awesome taste when he writes

  • @MrArtist1971 Bro, I don't agree with you because it's all personal taste..some might like what Joe writes and some what ed writes..they are both Masters, but only very different. Can't compare an orange with an apple.

  • @stevezane You got a point dude. Love Satch, I was just speaking from a "dollars and cents" point of view - but I hear you.

  • This song sucks!! This was really a poor attempt at an instrumental. Just retire. Don't end up humiliated and beaten like Muhammad Ali. You should have quit while you were a legend. By the way I heard cigarettes can give you all types of cancer. You should probably quit that as well. Also, if you want some good pointers on how to write great instrumental rock songs you should call up your old friends Sammy and Michael. I heard they found someone who is pretty good at that.

  • i agree i think eddie lost it in the 90,s and hes not been as great since evh was best in the 70,s and 80,s thats it

  • @shredmaster100 Agreed

  • @shredmaster100 I don't agree with you..the best van halen was in the 90's for me..BALANCE was the best album..my personal opinion.

  • thats your opinion friend but my favourite was the david lee roth years for me that was eddies best playing also he did the beat it solo in the 80,s one of the best solos ever

  • @shredmaster100 Actually I prefer David as a singer, but I just dig the music in the Balance album..Ed's tone and guitar part was at perfection..but again..that's for me :)

  • thats cool m8 and yeah david lee roth is an awesome singer

  • @adambyoung Really? LOL You're obviously not a musician if that's your standpoint. But, with that said, it's not what the minority of musician's think, it's what the majority of non-musicians buy. There within lies the dis-connect. I think the video was par, but the reality of the instrumental was really nice.

  • @rboo124 I am not sure I agree. I will admit I feel a bit of remorse for leaving such a nasty post. I was in a bad mood and I am very partial to Joe Satriani over EVH. But you cant feel that this song is nearly in the caliber of the early days. This song to me was really forced if you get my meaning. I almost got the feeling that it was a rebuttal considering (and I hope you agree with me) how fantastic Chickenfoot is.

  • @adambyoung I believe that Satriani is a superior guitar player. ...and I am also of the mind that the VH brothers are a bunch of a-holes and that weighs heavy with me. I think that my point about how Ali ended up is valid. He should have quit as a hero... and of course history recognizes him as such.... but if you saw his last few fights they were very ugly. I think Tatoo is god awful!!! And all of the live new stuff sounds terrible to me.

  • @rboo124 Also.... as far as me not being a musician.... unfortunately... you would be hard pressed to find a non-musician who is as enthralled with Satch as I am. I am a player.

  • @rboo124 Sorry for 4 replies. But in conclusion: you are right in the respect that for certain in 2012 VH will outsell Chickenfoot in every respect: tix, CDs, Downloads, Merchandise etc. But I can dream can't I?

  • @adambyoung Guess you DON'T play GUITAR? OR KNOW how to play GUITAR?

  • @xguitar123 I am a guitar player. But that has nothing to do with this vid. It is just awful and hardly a shadow of the pioneer that he was.

  • @adambyoung you're a guitar player and you think this is awful? jeez you must be a player with no soul..this was not Ed the shredder, but Ed using his guitar to talk.

  • @stevezane @stevezane I don't know Steve.... This is a bitter and egotistical cat. I agree he is a legend. I certainly studied him for years, but to me this is a forced attempt of denigrating Joe Satriani and his significant accomplishments as an instrumentalist. This song just goes nowhere. There is not really a recognizable verse or chorus to speak of... and as he is classically trained you wouldn't expect that.... However I was just really turned off by it.

  • @adambyoung I've always thought that in Rock you don't really need to have a rule about having a verse and a chorus in a specific order..just listen to the song Ain't talking about love...two patterns only and this song was a succes..The same thing in classical music..I listen to Anomin Dvorak and his music is built in a crazy way,but it works. What about the band Yes...10 to 20 different patterns..it's all about the feel and if the song speaks to you..I understand if it doesn't for you.

  • @stevezane You are absolutely right... definitely not a "rule". What puts Satriani over the edge is the fact that he has distinct Verses and Choruses. Instrumentals are a tough sell dude. Seriously!! It is a tough sell to get someone to listen to and understand an instrumental. This song has a beginning and an end that's about it.. Ain't Talking 'bout love DEFINITELY has a V/C/V/C structure.

  • @adambyoung I thin satriani is just way too diffenrent to compare him with Ed and I also think Ed did this song just to jam in his studio like I do many times..what i liked here is that he let himself go and let the guitar speak.I love instrumental music and this is what I do best as a musicien.I don't think it's ed's speciality, but if you listen to Chicken Foot I would say the songs are really basic and deja vu..nothing specialI don't even understand why Satriani is in this band..

  • @stevezane Good points and good dialogue with you Steve. I have written and released an instrumental CD myself. I performed all the tracks myself. I would love your take on it. For some reason youtube does not let me post my web site for you so just add a dot and a com to my screen name. Cheers

  • @stevezane just send me a message with your link..i'll be happy to give it take.

  • I saw Van Halen in concert last night. They were fucking awesome!

  • this is crap and Ed is hosed, what a shame throwing that guitar too. Its sad that because we love his playing that he can record crap like this and we will by it. NoBody would buy this if they knew it wasn't eddie.I am thrilled to hear the new vh and that they are trying to please the fans by playing an old sound. Sounds good until Dave starts singing though... Billy squire would have been a great choice

  • @judahbenhur1000 agreed

  • @adambyoung +1

  • @judahbenhur1000 Might be crap for you,but i loved it..For the first time Ed let his emotions talk.

  • Ed you still rock ,but i miss your 70's and 80's tone

  • Edward,

Go back to the analog tone of the late 70's and earlt 80's....belive me, we will love it better Bro!

  • Fuckin Aye! Edward on the drums!

  • Seriously Ed...put on a shirt.

  • @upnorthbacon lol

  • this is great stuff , anyone know if you can buy this track on mp3 anywhere ??

  • @tonyt1203 just download this video and rip the audio from it.

  • stainless steel frets

  • @rkl08551 Yeah i played one of the new wolfgangs, and with the stainless steel frets it just plays like a dream. I like the Dtuna thing to.

  • The pedal is just a wha wha, the squeals are courtesy of the fernandes sustainer, amazing

  • 6:30 cheers

  • Eddie will go down as one of the 3 men who changed the way the guitar was played. Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Van Halen

  • Well, I liked it.

  • He changed guitar and if it wasn't for him I wouldn't have picked it up.

That said, he needs to stop playing this shit right now. This song needed to end immediately.

  • All the haters: This man changed guitar playing. Let's respect that! All those great songs he came up with! And now this great new album with R&R's best frontman Diamond Dave! 2012 promises to be a great year!

  • @AWGMJANS Their time has come and gone! ... Same old stuff from VH. It's time to call it quits!

  • I love instramental rock...who needs lyrics, music can say anything when there are no lyrics.

  • I kept waiting for Justin Bieber to walk in.

  • @xtemplarx ...I think I can speak for millions when I say we are all sick of the "Bieber" bullshit!

  • Wow, this was seriously bad. The piano background was like MIDI file composed by a 3-year old with copy/paste and the guitar mangling on top of it was just god-awful. And to make a video of this? Yeah, we all want to see Eddie sweating out his withdrawals.

  • Man all the flair in this song is just unnecessary and bogs the actual feeling down, he's trying to play it like it's some flashy overblown thing and it needs to be a more subdued and simple song :/

  • how about playing with some of the current A-listesr and going from there.???Van Halen has TONS left to offer! Duragard and the new???

  • Plodding and tiresome. An uninspiring, self-indulgent dirge filled with useless pinched harmonics, feedback and whammy bar. There is no endearing, or even discernable, melody around which this noise could be anchored. Get some prozac and wait for daylight, Eddie.

  • @lrwilliamsjr You forget an insane overuse of the pitch-bending pedal. Talk about a little goes a long way. OH well.

  • This was when Eddie was in his 'lost' phase...drugs and alcohol took over. Thankfully, he is back!

  • AND........That's why the '04 tour was terrible. The last 10 seconds.

  • hmm...i love van halen but i've got to be honest i think this sucks ;/

  • Van Halen released the wrong song " Tattoo" when I heard it I cringed being a life long fan ! But after listening to the rest of the Album they go back to their 1979 to Fair Warning riffs, the album rocks like the early VH they just released the wrong single and EVH just makes his guitar scream !

  • @Leonslugocki I agree. Tattoo is not a Radio single. Big River would have been a better choice IMHO. It has that classic VH Vocal hook in the chorus.

  • @Leonslugocki I kind of like "tatoo" its got a good groove.

  • @Leonslugocki supprisingly tattoo is good live though

  • @Leonslugocki - I heard Tattoo also and was like, damn, this sounds like a budweiser beer commercial, but loved Eddies guitar tone. I haven't heard the rest of the album yet. I don't like Tattoo.

  • @worldwidebum Tatoo is the weakest track - the album is seriously the best they've done since the 80's and Wolf has developed tremendously: he is a MUCH better bassist than Michael Anthony now.

Glad he's past these dark days on this vid. Wolf & Dave probably saved his life.

  • @lastdaysguitar Wolfie has gotten SO good. He's got some sick bass parts on the new album. Ever see a Michael Anthony bass solo live? hahahaha It's all effects and noise, NO playing. The guy was surrounded by the best in the industry, and he never added anything to one song! (Thump, thump, thump, thump...brit...thump...brit..thump). Wolfie should have been born sooner! lol

  • @rboo124 TRUE!

  • @rboo124 I agree. Wolfie should have been around sooner, because his contributions of bass take VH to new great avenues. I wish the album was better, and i expected more from Eddie, but give the boys an album or so to warm up.

  • @rboo124 Michael Anthony had some serious vocals Bro.

  • Great track but seriously, Ed, can't you just turn up the ac in there and stop subjecting us to your sweaty, shirtless torso? LOL! Seriously, though, nice to hear the Sustainer being incorporated into his playing. \m/,

  • Good feelling.

  • It's not about how much skill you have as a guitarist but how you use it. That's what makes guitarist like EVH so fucking good. I hope to hear some more of this heavy, dark stuff if they make another album with Dave. We get a small taste of it on different kind of truth.

  • The sheer stupidity and short sightedness of most of these comments (alc, cigs, emo, old days. ... oh shit!!) is the main reason for emptying a nice bottle anyway. ... just th

  • @UKtoneKing I have mad respect for Clapton when he played with CREAM , EVH just tipped the scales and blew everyone away with his " Brown " sound that is often imitated but never duplicated that's a form of flattery !

Who cares if Eddie does not sing bra , NO ONE can play like him !

  • @morguefilla1 your an idiot.. seriously.. thats all i have to say. oh and people like you are the reason i have no faith in humanity. dumbass

  • if you like flashy guitar work jeff becks your man..genius...he,s even older than eddie.

  • i can't believe eddie is getting old.

  • I'm usually a big Van Halen fan but this is really bad. His emo playing at the beginning sounds like every kid in Guitar Center. The whole thing is directionless riffing. I don't know why people think that because it's EVH it has to be great. All artists have good and bad material.

  • @stevkil7 post a cover of this and send it to me. if its so easy

  • @stevkil7 Maybe you should consider this is a track made for a movie soundtrack...

  • Love Van Halen!!, Check out my drum cover from JUMP!!

  • I think this pretty much kicks azzzzzzz brother!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow who knew a homeless street urchin could even play like Eddie! What., That is Eddie you say, maybe he should shower and get dressed before publishing something on YouTube again.

  • Imagine Eddie could sing well ... this song could have been one of the best solos of all time ! Thumbs up if you agree !

  • What's up with the no shirt? Is he still trying to impress high school girls? His playing doesn't move me at all! He is a good player, but I would rather listen to Joe Bonamassa!

  • @MikeSchmalz1 then why are you watching a video of his playing

  • Well.....Eddie doesn't move me, that's for sure. Analytical is all that's left when talking about him, as the other comments on here attest to. He was brilliant 30 years ago, technically, melodically, and a great great band, can't say enough good. But he hasn't changed, he hasn't reinvented himself....at all, not even a little. He's still doing the same stuff he did back then and it's not aged well. He doesn't absorb influences, life, and change. He's still that 22 year old wizard, alchoholic.

  • @MarquisEstelle

I find your words quite insulting and disrespectful to a man that has pushed playing E-guitar that much, invented and developed new techniques and has been an inspirational force to me and a hole generation of guitar players and by that has also secondarly pushed new ideas in others. I have met him in person outside a hotel in Chicago. He is an impressive man that went trough a lot in the past years and I deeply respect him. Think about it!

  • Eddie certainly takes himself seriously in this, like way too much. And he's one of the few remaining that still take him seriously. Nothing new in 20 years at all.

  • @MarquisEstelle eddy is a wanker to work with, apparently the guys at peavey refuse to work with him as his insults are so bad, one thing I will say is his new fender guitar is made very well as he is always riding fender about build quality, and he is very involved in the build process which is more than others rock stars can say, some sigh and never even check the product out, at least eddy is active in his guitar builds

  • looks like Rocky working out and training for his big fight!

  • If you had told me as a teen that EVH would contribute music to a porn movie I would have likely fainted, but when it finally happened *both* the music as well as the film were uneven and generally sub-par for each of their genres of entertainment... :-(

(Yes, this track along with another entitled "Rise" and some piano interludes were recorded for a high budget Adult Movie entitled "Sacred Sin" - this is from the Ltd. Edition bonus material.)

  • Alcoholism. He's going to look back at this type of composition and be a little embarrassed later in life. I hope he makes it through safely.

  • I wish eddie would give up those cigs, they will take him before his time.

  • when these zodiac people get pissed off, just follow along.

  • this sucks. and i just learned ellen has the same birth date. i am an aquiariuos. the most loyal peole in the world. this is from years ago.

  • over dub central

  • He was probably drunk while he recorded this BUT this is played with a lot of feeling, that's ONE of the reasons he's one of the best guitarplayers in the world!!!!

  • 5:01

  • Boring....

  • i paused my porn for this!

  • Catherine just had her first sustainiac orgasm.

  • GENIAL PALABRAS NO TIENEN MUSICA ,LA MUSICA SI TIENE PALABRAS -VAN HALEN.COLEGAS VAN HALEN

  • lacking a solid bass guitar, should have called MA

  • Very deep, shit brought tear to my eye.

  • I think I just shit my pants.

  • if Beethoveen or Mozart were alive today, thier name would Van Halen.. nuff said. Look at this stop the frames at the sound boards and look at the frame. You can see the madness of ...Frakenstien!

  • Thanks Ed.

  • Fast or slow - it's always about the amount of depth you pull out of yourself.

  • man....... that was great. THANK YOU for that. I've been following you since i was 12, I'm 44 now and was waiting for an instramental like that. keep em comming, before you or i go. And on the other front I'll say a pray for you to get better. You could do it, when your ready

  • Now thats not how to treat a damn guitar!!!! :P

  • @Allendavidrolfe well guitars arent damned, just the players are:)

  • That was reaaaly boring and slow....

  • @barneyvelcro *really

  • @barneyvelcro You clearly wouldn't understand emotional and thougtful guitar playing if it hit you in the face with a sledgehammer and then banged your mother while you were unconscious

  • @tourdeforce17 Although that was EXTREMELY clever, I love and understand emotional guitar playing as much as the next guy, maybe I just have this "gnarly shredding" standard for Eddie and this was just too slow paced for me. Not trying to take away from his godliness or anything, it just didn't keep me very interested. =/

  • @barneyvelcro Sorry. I was a bit cranky when I wrote that comment, but I admit it was a bit harsh xD

  • holy crap, this is awesome!

  • All I can say is WOW!!!!!

  • amazing Eddie...best than ever!!!!

  • He´s all over the place I must say .-)

  • mamma mia

  • WOW!

  • Eric Clapton - Jimmy Page - Jeff Beck - Jimi Hendrix - Stevie Ray Vaughn -then this shy kid from Pasadena , California comes along and just blows everyone away with his brown sound , distortion , double tapping the fret , shreds & bends the strings with his own distinct sound often copied but never duplicated one of the GREATEST !

  • @Leonslugocki Yes, This sky kid from Nijmegen in the netherlands....(Wikipedia Use it)

  • @Leonslugocki Actually he is not from calefornia but from the netherlands.

  • @Leonslugocki to me hendrix was the BOYO and everyone else took some of what he did and added it to their own, SRV was amazing but he got some of his style outta hendrix, Clapton was one of the first big rock stars that people admired, some say he is not what people say he is, but the fact remains he was around doing it before anyone else including hendrix, clapton set a lot of benchmarks for people to follow and look up to, and he wrote some very catchy stuff as well,

  • @UKToneKing BRITISH FAGSSSSSSSSS.......Still suckin on sour grapes after all these years....AWwwwwwww ((-:

  • @Leonslugocki clapton had his own sound and that is why he stood out from everyone else back then, he may not of wrote the most complex stuff, but what he wrote was very catchy rock tunes that stood out from anything anyone else was doing back then & this made him very very popular,

  • @Leonslugocki What u have to remember is EVH does not sing, so he can concentrated all his efforts into playing the guitar, when hendrix did not sing and just busted out a solo it was much more complex than some of EVH stuff, evh does not use a lot of effects which is a thing I like about him, he preferred the sound of an amps natural distortion & manipulates this with other amps ect which is always cool in my books as it shows he is working at getting the tone rather than use a pedal ++ for me

  • @Leonslugocki Very well said. Everyone has their place and this EVH has made guitar playing much more fun ever since 78!!
