As an asian living in Asia, I have no basis of understanding this "political correctness" thing back when I was a kid watching cartoon network. All I know is that I was an awesome show to look forward to on the weekends. So I find it such a waste that this show did not get popular coz people have issues with this "political correctness" thing.
I think the main reason people hate EGB is the politically correct cast. Kinda says something when the token black dude is the LEAST obvious example of political correctness.

But I don´t even know if it´s in the extreme / or real Ghostbusters show. A Ghost or daemon where released and it start´s changing people to daemons/ghost´s. Including Egon. I hope you knew this episode.
I grew up watching the RGB's and even the OGB's. So when this show came out I was excited. The shows animation is better, plots a bit to dark for kids, and its still ghostbusters. However its the characters that makes this show iffy. We didn't want to see new GB's. We wanted the REAL GB's. Glad they came back for a two part episode.
The old equipment was better too. The cartages are a "neat" idea, but really the cells are good for 5,000 years. Sooo kinda pointless to have them.
Personally I thought thos was good apart from one thing... The blatant attempt to have every stereotype possible in the squad. The goth girl, the wheelchair man, the black guy, and the... stoner?

I did think it a bit strange that Garrett was in a wheelchair, but he ended up being my favourite character anyway as he was the most action-oriented. There was a black guy in the original team, New York is full of Hispanics so I hardly think it's stretching things to fit in a Hispanic member, and is adding a chick really so controversial when Janine was already around?
Janine is a SECRETARY. Only in Extreme Ghostbusters did she actually put on a proton pack and start kicking ass. Therefore they've technically added not one but TWO action girls.

yeah. I hate to admit it but EXTREME or whatever Ghostbusters are in fact better. that hunk a shit slimer wasn't overplayed that much and the ghosts are better, but they could've used better character designs then those teens really and some of the issues between them were really stupid but meh, kids show what would u expect, its not batman the animated series :p

Pardon me if I'm wrong, but the extreme came from the fact that there was a ghost in the show that looked like a serial killer, and had one of those lumber mill cutters in it's haed. This was from waaaayyyy back when I was a kid, I also think I remember a scene where people were drinking coffee at a diner, and all of a sudden thjis larva bagan crawling out from a guys mouth, and then it happens to the guy next to him, until the whole diner was infested.
It would be absolutely great having another movie with this premise, and another videogame with this plot, designed to work like borderlands: Four characters with their own abilities, working together in a huge map they can freely roam, while making both plot and secondary missions.
@MithranArkanere I don't really think the goth chick was the leader. There really didn't seem to be a leader since Egon was in charge. Even in terms of field command, there didn't seem to be a leader
Im not really against them modernizing ghostbusters as a cartoon, but this looked kinda unimaginative to me. Particularly the characters. The song is cool though. I remember watching some of this as a kid, and I remember not liking it that much. I remember liking real alot more. Real seemed funny and kinda creepy at times as well. Plus, they fully embraced the movie characters and didnt try to create new ones or ones that looked just like them. The VOs for Real really nailed the cahracters well.
@NickBoettcher I like the fact the show didn't just reboot everything. Sequel shows are rare, and this is the only one I know that was any good. I don't know about the characters being unimaginative. The show was funny, and it had horror elements. So it had both those things too. I've watched both those shows and it's hard to watch an episode of Real Ghostbusters. Seems like you just wanted a reboot with the same characters(not a bad thing).
I loooooved this series. In my eyes, it does live up to the old one. It's scarier, funnier and cooler. I mean Slimer is still the same, only a bit cuter. I hope they use the new characters for the 3rd movie in 2012. I can't bare seeing the old squad going through all that ghost trouble alone in their current state. Atleast let them be mentors to the extreme team

@darkxaur The characters make sense, what kind of kids would take a class about ghost busting, a thrill seeker, an occultist, a slacker(easy pass class), and someone interested in technology. Honestly the characters might seem PC and it probably was a concious effort at diversity but when I was younger I didn't even notice because it reflected what I saw at my school and in general. Plus the show was good anyway.
I liked the show, they tried to update the gear and look more modern instead of the 80s style. And I always enjoy spin off shows because cartoons based on movies either distant themselves from the movie story line or just becomes non canon one the movie sequel is made.

@remieres Egon stayed to supervise the containment unit throughout the decade. He was the one that recruited the XGB during the new outbreak. Frankly the story was the perfect evolution from the original premise. The new gear were necessary upgrades as the new ghosts were immune to the old proton packs.
I could of lived without the "extreeeeeme" but they were sadly catering to kids programming.
Also, Egon and the original team helps out the overwhelmed XGB in the finale.
I actually remember seeing this version first, but in the end I've gotta say I like the other versions better. Still, I can't say there's really been an official incarnation of GB that I've really disliked.
I was born in 87 grew up on the original and I loved this cartoon, it had its moments of meh but it was a strong series and at least a direct continuation
I've seen EGB only after TRGB and I still prefer the newer one. It's simply better-witten - dramatic, paced extremely well and sometimes downright scary, unlike the much goofier 80's version. Now, don't get me wrong, I love the 80's version as much as the next guy. But going with the Dragonball comparsion one guy made, well, it's like the original Dragonball and DBZ - one is fun and lighthearted, the other is a more "mature" version with a solid plot.

I can't say that I hate the EXTREME GHOSTBUSTERS. I'm actually glad that they kept the tradition going with this newer version. But I would'nt pick the EXTREME GHOSTBUSTERS over the REAL GHOSTBUSTERS. I'm old skool so I pick the 80's version over the 90's version. It's easy for me to say that because I was born 10 years before you in 1980. So I grew up watching the Real Ghostbusters as a little child in the 80's through the early 90's. But I understand where your coming from.

I agree with you because the Extreme Ghostbusters was made to a updated version for the kids of our time. I watched this show as a kid also. Now i am 24 year's and still say that version is better. And they even made the intro a rap song as well.

@bjay1502 It depends on which season of the real ghostbusters you saw the first three were good, but it went for a younger audience with the later ones and pretty much towards it's demise.
I didn't mind Extreme Ghostbusters, but I despised the character designs, mush preferred the anime ones of the original.

I wouldn't say I hate the "Extreme" version, in my opinion this version just lacks the unique atmosphere the original one had. And in addition, they overdid a little bit with trying to put more awesomeness to it .. it's like a soup, if you'll add to much salt you can throw it away, and the original ghost busters had already the perfect amount of salt ...

Sorry if you guys were born in the 90s and like this show, but for me, born in the 80s, having watched the first series "The Real Ghostbusters" - this new one felt absolutely CRAP: Over the top new age rock version, jerky animations, and the emo-like, ugly faced characters were terrible. Also, I don't recall them making the transition from original stars (my bad if it happened).
All in all, I could not watch more than 5 eps. Stories were half-baked; their focus was CGI and new style. :/
You know I saw this cartoon back in the late 90's. THE EXTREME GHOSTBUSTERS. But I only saw maybe three episodes at the most. The cable my family had at the time showed this cartoon like at 6:30 in the morning and I would wake up at 6am get dressed 4 school then watch the show right before I left. I admit it was pretty good but I simply LOVED THE ORIGINAL REAL GHOSTBUSTERS CARTOON FROM THE 80'S! That was my favorite cartoon in the 80's.

I live in the South East Asia and back in the 1997 , I was 7, before I have internet, I have cartoon net work... Back then, I have no concept of these "minority groups" so I based my opinions on the story line and character development and I gave it a 10/10 ratings...

in the mid 90s that style of animation was very common, it was the same used in Godzilla and MIB. I'm not really sure if I like it, but I think that's the reason other people liked this show, because it was loosely based on the blockbuster that was Ghostbusters but it had a clear and popular style of animation.... kinda
Hey, there was a show i used to watch all the time that was on as well as this. It was like alien something squad . I just remember some crazy rain that dehydrated people because there were tiny microbes from some alien in it. But on another note, from Ghost busters, the ghost that stole peoples eyes scared the fuck out of me as a kid.
The stories in EGB were awesome. There's only ONE thing I didn't like about this cartoon: the lack of a character a healthy white boy can identify with.
Not a lot of people liked this series but I grew up watchign his series, and it was my favorite when I was growing up.
Not a lot of people would agree, but the ghosts on this show were god damn TERRIFYING for me and a few other people I know. The gross out factor was good.

n this show you have ghosts mutilating people and ripping peoples eyes out
sure at the end of each epsisode they undid it, and there was no blood
it doesnt change the fact that someone had their lips sewn shut, or their eyes ripped out. OR their childhood robbed from them by a pedophile ghost

I love this show. It wasn't patronising like a lot of other kids shows, it had serious stories and some seriously dark stories too.
The fact that one of the heroes is in a wheelchair [and still a kick-ass adrenaline junkie] is rare and bold for a show like this.

I enjoyed Extreme Ghostbusters not as much as I enjoyed the original "Real" show but then I was older by then and maybe I'm more nostalgic about the original but I still enjoyed it and liked the characters although I wanted to buy the figures but never did cause they didn't do a figure of Garrett plus looking back the figures were crap anyway and didn't even look like them even the clothes were wrong: You Tube : (v=a9AsnqL0ZBQ)

Pardon me if I'm wrong, but the extreme came from the fact that there was a ghost in the show that looked like a serial killer, and had one of those lumber mill cutters in it's haed. This was from waaaayyyy back when I was a kid, I also think I remember a scene where people were drinking coffee at a diner, and all of a sudden thjis larva bagan crawling out from a guys mouth, and then it happens to the guy next to him, until the whole diner was infested.

A goth chick was the leader! A Goth Chick!!!
And Thomas Perkins' designs were great.
They shown better how ghosts are an scientifically explainable inter-dimensional phenomenon, not just spooky apparitions.
So, technically speaking, some ghosts were actually aliens, just from another dimension, like Gozer, instead from another planet.

It would be absolutely great having another movie with this premise, and another videogame with this plot, designed to work like borderlands: Four characters with their own abilities, working together in a huge map they can freely roam, while making both plot and secondary missions.

Im not really against them modernizing ghostbusters as a cartoon, but this looked kinda unimaginative to me. Particularly the characters. The song is cool though. I remember watching some of this as a kid, and I remember not liking it that much. I remember liking real alot more. Real seemed funny and kinda creepy at times as well. Plus, they fully embraced the movie characters and didnt try to create new ones or ones that looked just like them. The VOs for Real really nailed the cahracters well.

@NickBoettcher I like the fact the show didn't just reboot everything. Sequel shows are rare, and this is the only one I know that was any good. I don't know about the characters being unimaginative. The show was funny, and it had horror elements. So it had both those things too. I've watched both those shows and it's hard to watch an episode of Real Ghostbusters. Seems like you just wanted a reboot with the same characters(not a bad thing).

I loooooved this series. In my eyes, it does live up to the old one. It's scarier, funnier and cooler. I mean Slimer is still the same, only a bit cuter. I hope they use the new characters for the 3rd movie in 2012. I can't bare seeing the old squad going through all that ghost trouble alone in their current state. Atleast let them be mentors to the extreme team

I really don't know why people hate the "Extreme" version... I really don't. I was born in 1990 and this is the one of the most memorable cartoon I have since I was born.
Now that I grown up, I watch back the "Real Ghostbuster" compare to the "Extreme" one... No doubt the Extreme is way much better than the Real.
I mean based on the plot, the ghost in the new one, this add a damn lot of horror into cartoon. BTW, Kylie, the goth chick, is hot...

@darkxaur The characters make sense, what kind of kids would take a class about ghost busting, a thrill seeker, an occultist, a slacker(easy pass class), and someone interested in technology. Honestly the characters might seem PC and it probably was a concious effort at diversity but when I was younger I didn't even notice because it reflected what I saw at my school and in general. Plus the show was good anyway.

I liked the show, they tried to update the gear and look more modern instead of the 80s style. And I always enjoy spin off shows because cartoons based on movies either distant themselves from the movie story line or just becomes non canon one the movie sequel is made.

@remieres Egon stayed to supervise the containment unit throughout the decade. He was the one that recruited the XGB during the new outbreak. Frankly the story was the perfect evolution from the original premise. The new gear were necessary upgrades as the new ghosts were immune to the old proton packs.
I could of lived without the "extreeeeeme" but they were sadly catering to kids programming.
Also, Egon and the original team helps out the overwhelmed XGB in the finale.

I actually remember seeing this version first, but in the end I've gotta say I like the other versions better. Still, I can't say there's really been an official incarnation of GB that I've really disliked.

I've seen EGB only after TRGB and I still prefer the newer one. It's simply better-witten - dramatic, paced extremely well and sometimes downright scary, unlike the much goofier 80's version. Now, don't get me wrong, I love the 80's version as much as the next guy. But going with the Dragonball comparsion one guy made, well, it's like the original Dragonball and DBZ - one is fun and lighthearted, the other is a more "mature" version with a solid plot.

I don't hate Extreme Ghostbusters. But in comparison it's like The Real GhostBusters = DBZ, Extreme Ghostbuster= DBGT One is better then the other and most of the time it's the one that comes first.

I can't say that I hate the EXTREME GHOSTBUSTERS. I'm actually glad that they kept the tradition going with this newer version. But I would'nt pick the EXTREME GHOSTBUSTERS over the REAL GHOSTBUSTERS. I'm old skool so I pick the 80's version over the 90's version. It's easy for me to say that because I was born 10 years before you in 1980. So I grew up watching the Real Ghostbusters as a little child in the 80's through the early 90's. But I understand where your coming from.

I do admit even though I've seen only 3 episodes of this newer version, I like it. Not as much as the 80's version but it's still cool. By the way I bet u didn't know there was a more original cartoon called The Ghostbusters back in the 70's. That was the first one. It's completely different from the other two.

I agree with you because the Extreme Ghostbusters was made to a updated version for the kids of our time. I watched this show as a kid also. Now i am 24 year's and still say that version is better. And they even made the intro a rap song as well.

@bjay1502 It depends on which season of the real ghostbusters you saw the first three were good, but it went for a younger audience with the later ones and pretty much towards it's demise.
I didn't mind Extreme Ghostbusters, but I despised the character designs, mush preferred the anime ones of the original.

I wouldn't say I hate the "Extreme" version, in my opinion this version just lacks the unique atmosphere the original one had. And in addition, they overdid a little bit with trying to put more awesomeness to it .. it's like a soup, if you'll add to much salt you can throw it away, and the original ghost busters had already the perfect amount of salt ...
and yeah that gothic chick is hot, but Janine was waaaay hotter:D

Sorry if you guys were born in the 90s and like this show, but for me, born in the 80s, having watched the first series "The Real Ghostbusters" - this new one felt absolutely CRAP: Over the top new age rock version, jerky animations, and the emo-like, ugly faced characters were terrible. Also, I don't recall them making the transition from original stars (my bad if it happened).
All in all, I could not watch more than 5 eps. Stories were half-baked; their focus was CGI and new style. :/

You know I saw this cartoon back in the late 90's. THE EXTREME GHOSTBUSTERS. But I only saw maybe three episodes at the most. The cable my family had at the time showed this cartoon like at 6:30 in the morning and I would wake up at 6am get dressed 4 school then watch the show right before I left. I admit it was pretty good but I simply LOVED THE ORIGINAL REAL GHOSTBUSTERS CARTOON FROM THE 80'S! That was my favorite cartoon in the 80's.

@Rorschach1985 yes and looking back it's amazing what they could get away with on tv. there were some shows then that probably would get past the censors today because so many people are wimps who would rather watch stupid, crappy shows than a dark show. an example of how dark this show can get : the episode "Deadliners" which is my personal favorite. but yeah shows of the 90's and early 00's were the best because they made you look forward to saturday morning and now most stuff is crap

I live in the South East Asia and back in the 1997 , I was 7, before I have internet, I have cartoon net work... Back then, I have no concept of these "minority groups" so I based my opinions on the story line and character development and I gave it a 10/10 ratings...
I despise the haters who hate this show because of the "politically correct" deal. Its like they are being racist to the characters and ignored the cool stories and new concepts..

in the mid 90s that style of animation was very common, it was the same used in Godzilla and MIB. I'm not really sure if I like it, but I think that's the reason other people liked this show, because it was loosely based on the blockbuster that was Ghostbusters but it had a clear and popular style of animation.... kinda

Hey, there was a show i used to watch all the time that was on as well as this. It was like alien something squad . I just remember some crazy rain that dehydrated people because there were tiny microbes from some alien in it. But on another note, from Ghost busters, the ghost that stole peoples eyes scared the fuck out of me as a kid.

Not a lot of people would agree, but the ghosts on this show were god damn TERRIFYING for me and a few other people I know. The gross out factor was good.

I remember seeing action figures for this show in Toys R Us and being really, really confused. I must've been four.
I've only watched this now, and it looks pretty dark. Egon looks like Jonathon Crane from B:TAS.
And wasn't Dan Akroyd one of the writers? I wouldn't be surprised, seeing as he tried to get a Blues Brothers cartoon off the ground, also in 1997.

Extreme Ghostbusters was actually pretty decent. One would only really hate it if they are a diehard fan of the original, seeing as how there are few appearances by the original cast.
