  • The studio camera's can't handle her necklace! You could signal aircraft with those diamonds.

  • You gotta dig Lana writing her name on the chalkboard.

  • Talk about a STAR! Lana Turner was exquisite.

  • Arlene is amazing. I LOVE her!

  • where do u think marilyn got her voice n sex look? sex queen lana

  • Gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous.

  • I was always unsure of who really stabbed Johnny, Lana or the daughter. I thought more along the lines of Lana but was never really sure.

  • john daly has a boner

  • Lovely actress.....check out Miss Turner in ""Imitation of Life"" (1959), the reason she appeared on this show.

I can also see how she was mistaken for Marilyn Monroe whose biggest hit ""Some Like It Hot"" was released this year.

Rock on, both, Marilyn Monroe & Lana Turner two legends that forever live on in thousands of hearts!!!! XOXO!!!!

  • LANA'S BEST MOVIE IS STILL THE ORIGINAL PEYTON PLACE. IT IS A SUPERIOR FORM OF SOAP OPERA. THE SEQUEL WAS OKAY-ISH. ELEANOR PARKER WAS GOOD BUT NOBODY COULD OUTSHINE LANA IN ANYTHING. SHE'S GONE NOW, BLESS HER, BUT HER BEAUTY LIVES ON AND ON AND ON IN CELLUID FORM. EVEN IN A THOUSAND YEARS FROM NOW, PEOPLE WILL SAY, WHO IS THAT BEAUTIFUL LADY? SAME WITH MARILYN, PRINCESS DI, AUDREY HEPBURN. THEY HAD FACES THEN.

  • @RichardElden most of these old stars were "whorish" so dont pick just on her! they were beautiful though..

  • Lana Turner was beautiful and a great actress...I recently watched her in "Madame X", in which she was brilliant...She aged beautifully and gracefully as well.

  • @pagalley1 Madame X is an amazing and heart-wrenching movie. She was truly gifted and underrated for her talent.

  • @RichardElden I wonder what particular talent you have, other than the ability to post rather unpleasant remarks.

  • this would have been less than a year after her daughter killed her boyfriend johnny stompanato in a domestic scuffle. the inquiry that had prosecutors not seek criminal charges was said to be of the magnitude of the o.j. simpson trial.

  • Nice lady, but her body is shot. Not even Bennett Cerf would go for her.

  • Ms. Turner is the very definition of glamour. Doesn't exist anymore!

  • This is how one makes an entrance. Now only drag queens make entrances like that anymore.

  • Stars were so classy and elegant back then. They were priceless jewels, magnificent treasures!

  • Lana Turner has such a beautiful voice. And yes, she was very glamorous. Not only that, but a fantastic actress as well.

  • She is soo elegant and yes dripping with glamour.

  • i like her laugh!! shes beautiful!

  • what yr was this???? and lana kinda looks like a blonder jane wyman here

  • @BlueDuchesse9 , 1959. "Imitation Of Life" was due to open not long after this.

  • what yr was this????

  • Lana Turner had glamour written all over her!

  • Lana was a beautiful woman and she had talent too..

  • Lana and Snookie? Get a life

  • Never liked her! Not in Ava's class! Essentially she is white trash who made it!

  • does anyone know if Mairlyn Monroe ever appeared in this tv show? if so, would kindly send me the link?

  • Ahhhh..the days of natural teeth.

  • We've come a long way from the likes of Lana Turner to Snooki.

  • @pm512 You hit the nail on the head. Lana was the 50's version of Snooki! White trash who made it!

  • @RImusclebear Actually, pm512 was comparing Snooki unfavorably to Ms. Turner. However, since you decided to open the door to debate about Lana Turner being "white trash": are we to assume that means that Lana would have done such "trashy" things as subscribing to online magazines of naked, greased-up, hairy men, too, RImusclebear? Of course, we can't ALL be as classy as a "big f*g with a big d*ck" such as yourself. Thank heaven we have you to show us the way to refinement.

  • @RImusclebear it is sad that people say such terrible things about a such a great actress

  • So beautiful and a brilliant actress.

  • On the Donahue Show a member of the audience asked about the eight marriages and Lana replied, "Well, no one plans to get married eight times." She said she was sure each marriage was the marriage. The problem is she was very fragile, always overwhelmed by her stardom. No wonder she and Garland were best friends as well as neighbors. She survived a horrible scandal and went on to have one of her greatest successes with "Imitation of Life" and later got an Oscar nomination for "Peyton Place."

  • As warm, gentle, and charming as she appears on camera, it's hard to get one's mind around the fact that she went through 8 marriages. I mean, if I was married to a gal that classy, I'd bend over backwards to keep it together. I believe any rational person is willing to accept the notion of a marriage or two being primarily the man's fault, but when we get up to 7 or 8, one has to start thinking. maybe it's her? She could have any man she wanted. Did she just go for morons?

  • Why does she whipser?

  • @EffLabels part of the show was to try to hide your identity- sh'es disguising her voice.

  • i swear her and beyonce look alike

  • @bhalle66 Holy hell, I thought I was the only person who thought that! I think she looks more like her mother, Tina Knowles, though.

  • @bhalle66 Please! Have your eyes checked !

  • year please

  • What happened to people dressing up for everything? Now people just go out in pajamas and think it looks decent enough. What happened to morals? I sincerely wish I was alive during this time. It would have been wonderful I'm sure.

  • @Kate8790 Yes, whatever happened to the morals of the likes of Ms. Turner, who married seven times? Gee, those were them good ol' moral days ...

  • @Vitte4 hmm well today;s hollywood people marry several times its a hollywood thing.

  • @Kate8790 ... Not to mention whose boyfriend was stabbed to death by her daughter because that boyfriend repeatedly harassed and beat her? Gee, I miss them moral days!

  • @Vitte4 It's unfair to judge the whole era based on the life of one person. And while we're on the subject, let's not forget that Hollywood had a strong presence in the lives of many stars back then. Alot of people went through the "star system" because the Hollywood studios were in control. These days, stars have a crap load of freedom. And yet alot of them, specifically the younger ones, are spiraling out of control way faster and much harder than the stars of Hollywood past.

  • @chilvari Umm ... who's judging the whole era based on the life of one person? My response was to Kate8790's gushing, "What happened to morals?" statement.

  • Turner's next film, Imitation of Life (1959), proved to be one of the greatest successes of her career

  • Lana Turner is one of the best American Actor of all Time.

  • Simply gorgeous

  • I love Kellogg's Special K

  • Glamor had a name. It was Lana.

  • I´ve always loved the way she talked and wondered whether that was real or that she taught herself to do that. Always very slow and breathy, but very sexy in my mind. A true star, like everybody said. Not like those noboby´s we call `stars` nowadays.

  • Miss Lana stuck the 12" chef's knife into Johnny S's gut, and rightfully so.

  • @tallpaul521 Oh, wasn't that her daughter that did that?

  • Is she slurring her speech at 2:52?

  • Lana was the quintessential movie-star. Actresses like Lana, Joan Crawford, Bette Davis, played the role of "movie star" with such class.

  • My God! She's gorgeous! It seems like all the old hollywood stars have waaay better personalities and manors than the ones of today! Like Heidi Montag? Yikess, I have no respect for people like that.

And the old starlets have more elegance than some of today's.

  • The wonderful Lana- she seemed a bit tipsy, but great to see her relaxed and having fun. This was pretty soon after that Stompanato nightmare, so good to see she bounced back and went on with her life (BTW "Imitation Of Life" made her a millionaire.)

  • She looks high

  • 225 she sounds drunk shame on you ahlee

  • a classic beauty witha troubled love life

  • WOW. I can't stand up now!!

  • Nice signature, I wish my name started with an L.

  • Lana had More Class in her Little Finger.. than MADANA... has in her 'entire body!'

  • I love Imitation of Life..great movie.

  • Mel Ferrer was such a gentleman! Notice how gallantly he bows and kisses Lana's hand. It's no wonder he replied to two of my letters back in 2005.

  • Lana Turner had a great hit in Imitation of Life, it made her a multi millionaire. That picture and this TV appearance happened after Lana's great scandal the Stompanto murder. Rather than derail her career Lana became a bigger star. A great beauty and a fine actress: The Postman Always Rings Twice, The Bad And The Beautiful, Peyton Place, Imitation of Life and Madame X.

  • Lana Turner was one of the most Beautiful women ever to appear on film..especially in 'The Postman always rings twice'. Watch it..it's on dvd.

  • Hello

I would like to where I could find the song johnny come home sung by Lana in the movie Betrayed?

    please reply

  • " I should be that lucky" was Ms Turner's response to the comment she sounded like Marilyn Monroe. I realize that MM was "the man" back in those days, however Ms Turner was not exactly "hamburger helper" in the steak house of glamour pusses as Mr Cerf would say. Moreover Ms Turner had a powerful V shaped torso, and slender hips and legs. If she was not an athlete in her youth she had the build .

  • Miss Turner was doing an impression of MM. And like Marilyn was a very sexy lady.

  • i dont know if she impressiong marilyn i think she was just trying to disguise her voice.

  • why does she speak so softly?

  • @tnao123 She's trying to mask her voice so the panel willl not recognize it.

  • Lana and Mel Ferrer were both in Falcon Crest. Lana Turner is definitely a head Turner! Hollywood created some beautiful Actresses. Tood bad most today don't take pride in their Being Women and looking like a Knock out like Lana!

  • Mom said Lana was a beautiful girl

  • She had a sexual affair with boxer Joe Louis.

  • Where dd you get that tasty tidbit???

  • From the book: "Joe Louis: My life 1978. She had numerous affairs.

  • @airjor1

    Blechhh

  • that was the quickest one I've ever seen

  • A really great actor - looks, well she is a one off.

  • Glamour just dripped from this lady.

  • I wouldn't put Joan Collins in that category. I think one of the last great female stars is Katharine Hepburn. You have a middle range...they didn't have the same magic about them, like the Joan Collins' and Meryl Streeps. Now it is very rare to find anyone that would fall into any part of the movie star category...Kate Winslet, Cate Blanchet maybe? Not any other under 50's, that spring to mind. The others are celebrities...which is no where near a movie star.

  • you're right. I saw a katie holmes interview the other day and her personality, voice, manner and general air could not have been more ordinary. She might as well work at starbucks. Being inoffensive is not the same thing as being wonderful. Charisma and personal magic are elusive among stars now.

  • @sisalrug i totally agree, stars today have no clue how to work an audience. The old stars were class.

  • Actually Lana was only thirty eight here -\she was born Feb. 8, 1921

  • @blondex21

Lana would be 45 years old in 1966.

  • This was very cool indeed!

  • is that mel ferrer there on the pannel?

  • I'm named after her

  • Too bad that, as far I as know, this is the only complete appearance of Lana Turner on youtube. The WML at 25 special has a hilarious bit with her, when she was obviously older.

  • Lana Turner was beautiful and had a great sense of humor. She was imitating Marilyn Monroe's voice, even though Marilyn copied Lana's hairstyle and makeup as well as the similar voice from the early 1940's. And look at the the diamonds Lana had on. And those babies were real!

  • Please, how do you know her gems were real?

  • Please! Are you serious? From everything I've read about Lana Turner she'd rather be caught dead than wear anything fake. As soon as she was a starlet she started buying good and real jewelry by the ton. Even later in life she refused to wear fakes when on movies or TV.

  • Thanks. I'm not an expert on Lana Turner, so I learnt a bit on her. The one famous the world over for her jewelry collection is Dame Elizabeth Taylor. Some of her master pieces have names like Krupp diamond, The Taylor-Burton diamond, La Peregrina Pearl etc.

  • You are welcome. There is an amusing story that Lana Turner told herself, that when a starlet she bought a big, fake zircon ring, and a mentor and friend Mervin Le Roy told her never to wear anything fake that big unless it was real. Lana was embarrassed but learned her lesson well. From then on all her jewels on and off the screen and even to lounge around the house were real. Now that's a real movies star!

  • Stars are so less glamorous nowadays. I believe Dame Elizabeth and Sophia Loren are some of the last great big actresses and stars. :(

  • And don't forget Joan Collins! Maybe she is not in the same category as Dame Elizabeth but she sure made her mark on television and being a role model of feminine feminist while looking great. She's still a Diva.

  • Have you seen a Collins mini-series with Gene Kelly called "Sins"? I like it a lot.

  • Oh yes! I loved Sins. I've seen it on video. It was a 6 hour glamor extravaganza. No one makes miniseries like that anymore, but then we don't have the young stars with charisma of the great ones. :( A lot of today's actors think they have to look their worse so people can see their talent and not their looks. But look at the vintage films and how great Lana Turner was in The Postman Always Rings Twice. Now that's class!

  • On "A lot of today's actors think they have to look their worse so people can see their talent and not their looks..." I read people like that wanting to say that they are so special that they don't need nice clothes to appear special. That's the way Bruce Willis, looks to me, when he goes to a movie premier in a ragged shirt and poor jeans. I like glamour. I want my favorites to look divine. If I wanted a regular looking person, I'd look at my next door neighbor. Is/ was Lana your favorite?

  • Lana is one my favorites. I like Jean Harlow, Hedy Lamarr, Rita Hayworth, Marilyn Monroe, Joan Crawford , Jayne Mansfield and silent siren Barbara La Marr.

Back then you looked at the stars and how they looked. Today is, "Look how beautiful Halle Berry's dress is."

I like Lana because she was very clean and even though it sounds absurd, she was always camera ready--even at home--that meant bathed, coiffed, well dressed, and of course a few diamonds here and there :-D

  • It is a pity that this is not in color, she had the most beautiful acquamarine color eyes that I have seen in my life. She was not considered such a great artist during her time, but now, if you watch her films you can see that she was marvelous. Nowadays we do not have movie stars like her anymore. Beautiful lady.

  • Takes you back in time.

  • Lana...there are some personalities (and faces) that just scream Hollywood, and she was all of them. Beautiful.

  • what year?

  • Lana seemed like a really good person

  • Lana is probably my favorite blonde in Hollywood. She had that natural look, didn't look obnoxious or anything, and was very classy.

  • agreed--she was a natural beauty.

  • Despite her decidedly messy life, Lana was very liked in the film community. As an actress she was always prepared and professional and through her career learned and grew as an artist, culminating in an Academy Award nomination. She was gorgeous and elegant but also down to earth and had a great sense of humor about her own foibles. She and Judy Garland were neighbors and great pals and had a weekly tradition of getting together to enjoy ice cream sodas. She was damned smart too!

  • When was this appearance? Apparently AFTER the Stompanado killing in 1958, but before 'Imitaion of Life,' which came out in '59.

  • 3/22/59, per the IMDB.

Arlene's comment "You have a killer body" doesn't seem to have phased Lana at all, despite some bad memories.

  • I'm sorry, I don't understand what you mean by this...I'm too young to remember, and I tried doing research, but I still don't know how "You have a killer body" could have offended her...

Also, I don't understand the significance of 3/22/59.

If you could clear this up for me, I would appreciate it. :)

  • 3/22/59 is the date this show was broadcast.

The previous year, Lana's boyfriend, Johnny Stompanato, was stabbed to death in her home. He daughter was accused of the stabbing but acquitted on a self defense charge. Some speculated that Lana herself did the deed. Thus, a reference to "your anatomy is murder", (not "a killer body"- my bad), could be construed as a reference to that, although that was probably not the intent.

  • Oh wow...

Yeah, that makes more sense...I'm glad she didn't seem to react, at least on camera. Do you think she even caught it at all? I'm not sure.

Thank you for posting this...it makes sense now :)

  • "Your anatomy is murder" refers to the film "Anatomy of a Murder," which Miss Lana was slated to appear in, then backed out of.

  • She was a classy sexy woman.

My father was crazy about her. I can see why *LOL*

  • classic beauty

  • my mother told me she was a beautiful girl.

  • Arlene was clever: "Your anatomy IS murder!" But actually, Lana and Ava Gardner were compact, trim, not really big in front.

  • Don't need to be big in front to have a killer body!

  • True, Lana was extremely attractive. But when I think of a killer body, it's more like those 50s sirens- Monroe, Mansfield, Novak, Loren, Taylor. Lana, a holdover from the 40s, had curves, but not all that 50s meat. If you've ever seen "Imitation of Life" you'll see how thin she is, how she doesn't really fill out her costumes. That's not to say she wasn't gorgeous. She sure was!

  • OK, get your drift. Wish more causcasion women were as attractive as the women back then. I have difficulty even naming a few who can compare to these women! Londi Anderson, but she's not too current. Hmmm....maybe Shana Moakler and Jessica Biel?

  • Gregg, if you've got race on your mind, you absolutely must see "Imitation of Life", both the Claudette Colbert version, and the Lana Turner version. I prefer the Lana version because it was directed by Douglas Sirk, a very clever and subversive artist. You can see clips of both right here on youtube, but I suggest seeing them full-length, if you haven't already. You won't regret it.

  • i thought she was busty, but with small narrow hips.

  • I think Lana got thinner as she got older, but also a better actress. She was more developed in The Postman Rings Twice, for example, than in Imitation of Life.

  • Actually it's a shape i'd like to have had.

  • Lana smoked a lot, not just cigarettes, but little cigars. Not recommended!

  • True, very true. I love all of them too, Lana is my all-time favorite Hollywood Blonde.

  • She was the best!

  • lovessssssss her legend and a star x and she does sound like mm here x i prefer her pictures when she first started like ziefeld folies honky tonk etc........xxx

  • Isn't this fun? The cheer from the crowd- her breathy, sexy imitation, her nervousness- wow! She looks great! So glad you could post this.... Patrick

  • Thanks so much for posting this!! A real gem!

  • Thanks for showing this sequence. She is an icon and looks wonderful. She seems very sweet.

  • Lana is a S-T-A-R! Look at that entrance and exit!
