the bass line in the intro is very similar to the main groove in badfish, and the drums are virtually identical except that in slow ride bud uses a steady single kick on the down beat, whereas in badfish he lays a double kick which makes it sound fatter. elements of the melody to badfish was inspired by a song called 'look at all the fun we missed' by the ziggens (good friends of sublime's), but i wouldn't be surprised if the rhythm developed from jamming out with slow ride.
