lmao, all the riddle haters in here have valid points, but also untrue points. Most airlines prefer a bachelors degree. If you do it like archer49D says you should, at some podunk FBO (Which i did for my private), you save money, but you should probably go to a school flight program with a degree.
@p51pilot28 You realize that aviation degrees can only be used in aviation, if you really have your heart set on going to college then get a degree in something other than flying, it's a meaningless degree (essentially, it says you got a commercial rating). It satisfies the check-box of having a degree (which some airlines currently require), but does nothing else for you.
Well Im transfering to ERAU next semster, but i aint no dumb ass, its expensive and i know that, thats why I got my Private cerft. first and went to a local college that has a aviation program. I took alll the general education courses and a lot of the core courses. Im just going there to get the ERAU name, after that ill go to a local college to get something in criminal justice just to fall back in, even with my CFI, you never know, it looks like I will graduate with maybe less 90k in debt
ERAU is only a gag to people who don't know much about it. There are a few kids that leave ERAU with a bad attitude, thinking they know everything and can't learn anything new, these are the kids that give the school a bad name. Over 1/3 of my new hire class was from ERAU. Believe what you want that says something.
Whats with the bomber patterns in the 72.... :P Honestly I used to do rental checkouts most were riddle students looking for somthing to rent for 100 hamburger trips. just like any other school those paying for it them self were great those who had mommy and daddy paying the way had the bad attitude I will personally say I think they are abit over priced.......
@atwoo155 You must love spending 40 Grand a year and handing your job over to military pilots with more hours and experience. yeah Go go go Erau is the best not. I was there for a while don't act like it's a great school. The students Currently there EVEN know they're getting ripped off so don't lie to people who are going to be prospective students.
@atwoo155 ERAU is useless, as are AllATPs and any other pilot mill you wanna talk about. Want to learn to fly? Get your ratings at an FBO and then get in the "shit" as fast as you can, short fields, icing, storms, heavy winds, the works. Otherwise you're just a button pusher.
@archer49d right, that makes no sense, you can get into the shit at a flight school too. I go into "the shit" pretty quick, considering through Riddle i got an internship where i was a qualified line pilot flying King Airs in the california Sierra Nevadas. Find me a podunk FBO that can get me that at 250 hours, and we'll talk.
@p51pilot28 Find me a pilot mill like Riddle that let's its students get their own experience without being held by their hand and having everything handed to them and we'll talk again. Also if you're into spending a hundred grand on something that you can get for 30, good for you, but I'll continue to consider you dumb.
I can't find you an FBO that can get you that, but I can find you a paying job in the right seat of a 1900 at 250 hours. And SIC time in a single pilot plane is useless.
@archer49d They can go across the field to do that. And it was PIC TIME. Im not spending a 100 grand on flight training, im spending 20 grand on flight training. But I am paying 100 grand for a degree. And when you and I are competing for a seat at continental, who will they will take? a kid with 1500 hours of flight time from bobs flight school or a kid with 1500 hours time, a completed CRJ course, and a 4 year college degree. Enjoy the regionals for the rest of your life, Bob.
@p51pilot28 Sound like you're feeding a line of sh*t, since under no set of regulations would you have been qualified to do line flying (121, 125, 135) at 250 hours unless you were an SIC.
I didn't say don't get a college degree (even though I didn't), I said do it somewhere more useful than Riddle, and if I'm supposed to enjoy the regionals for the rest of my life, explain to me why I've been driving a Boeing since I was 23.
@p51pilot28 And you really think that a "CRJ course" makes a difference; that's just funny to me. Furthermore, I will laugh my butt off the day you get a job at Continental.
You've show how you're mind works quite well here too, you think getting a coveted seat at a major airline (by the way Lawn Dart operators are not majors like you seem to think) does not come down to checking more boxes than the other guy. It's about who you know and personality as well.
@p51pilot28 So the kid from Bob's flight school and you would both have about 4000-15000 hours total time, CRJ course would be irrelevant, and both would probably have college degrees (varies as a few know the right people to circumvent that requirement).
Except one got it all for 30 grand and the other spent 100 plus and, unless mommy and daddy paid for it, it still drowning in debt.
Woe! The apu just stopped! The apu is acting weird! Is there a checklist for that? Stop pushing buttons before you think. Now go ahead and set up for a 41 degree departure from PWN and don't forget that you're cleared to "two six thousand" 10 minutes after departure. It's ok, you can sound like you don't know what you're doing. Because you don't. And don't forget to make sure the ground crew shows you the nose wheel pin after push. Have a safe flight.
@gordomarley Yeah i was there with Prior flight experience with my private pilot, First they tried making me redo the whole Private course at at least $450 bucks a lesson for a flight AND part142 which makes everything take longer. On top of that They over charge each lesson. It's a waste of money
@gordomarley if you want to fly go do it at an FBO get your ratings and get your degree in something else then Aeronautical science. It's a useless major it cant be applied to Anything else but a pilot and Airlines don't even look at the aeronautical science degree. So in a nut shell they're screwing you over. "we're the best Aeronautical University" because they're one of the only ones out there. You can choose whether 160000 of debt is worth it for something worth 50 grand or less.
you guys should stop ragging Riddle, I went there for two years...it's a good school! I left because I got hired as an Air Traffic Controller before I graduated....and I'm glad I did!
i am going to second that... i am a senior here and it is mainly the flight line that jerks you. if you are not good dealing with people CONSTANTLY trying to jerk you around- look into FIT or UND (but be ready to get half of your flights weathered)
alright, i did not know UND had just as good of a aviation program but I'am almost positive Embry Riddle Prescot has a better fleet then UND but that dosent really matter. YOu are right though about the money but the thing is I should have my IFR certificate before I go to college whichever one I chose. So whichever one I do end up attending will be cheaper since I will have less flying expeirence. Im going to visit both and choice which I go to then, afterall I'am only going into my Junior year
lol dont worry im not dumb enough to pay all that money to go to a 4 year school to learn how to fly. im getting a real degree lol. i aint dissing UND i would have gone there too if i didnt get in to erau lol u just need to improve your radio communications "Riddle four thirty seven"
lol you dont even know what you are talking about. we arnt an airline. you can say flight numbers like that to atc but you dont pronounce tail numbers like that jack ass. especially for erau aircraft in daytona considering we have special procedures with daytona airspace on how we announce our selves to them. we dont say four twenty four echo romeo we say Riddle four two four. dont be hatin cause you went to a dinky little flight school with 2 planes crap planes
4:44 the machine guns and lasers appear to be working lmao..
so you take this senior year?

I know there are 100 different ways to get the same outcome, but Riddle is teaching you guys the most jacked up way possible.
Challenge and reponse checklist for all the acceptance check? Come on!
In the real world, even with 10 hours in the airplane, a crew can get all that done in 3 minutes.

doing checklist properly ensures that you don't overlook something. its people who speed through them that fuck themselves over.
