I was looking for a way to do such effects. It looks quite good. I would like a tutorial on how you did it. I however have an idea about a possible way to do that even more realistically, and I would also like your feedback. It would require a checkerboard mask and some tracking to deform the previous face.
I think i know how you did this! It involved superimposing the alternate face over the original face, then animating the superimposed face to "peel" away.
