Well to answer you're question the reason why people do not shoot deer in the head is because when you shoot a deer in the head, the exit wound ruins the whole skull and possibly the horns and by shooting it through the lungs the deer would most likely die instantly from shock or die within 5 seconds to a minute mostly having no awareness to what just happened.

Here's the reason for the whispering. When you shoot a loud gun, like Chris' 12 gauge, the deer have a hard time telling where the noise came from. Most of the time the deer don't know which way to run. When you stay quiet with your voice after the shot, it helps not to give away your position.

@darrian1984 Deer are dumb, and since it happens so fast and its so devastating, they for the most part feel nothing since adrenaline kicks in instantely. Also, if they are shot right dont live more than 10 seconds or so, which isnt long enough for them to realize death or feel the pain. I dont like to see deer suffer, just this year I shot one. I exploded the right lung and the heart was in peices... the deer didnt make a sound, didnt run, didnt quiver, it probably doesnt even know its dead yet
@flippinaarin Deer are actually somewhat smart, they've been fooling hunters for years. And the only way to shoot a deer without it feeling any pain at all is to shoot for the head, but you should never do that. When they get hit in the heart they feel pain, then the adrenaline kicks in, and just before they die the pain comes back. Much like in a fight, the first punch hurts, the rest don't do to adrenaline, and after the fight you start feeling soreness and pain again, same with shot deer.
@tmsods 9 times out of 10 if a shooter aims for a deers head he succeeds in blowing the bottom jaw off. You only have about a 4inche area to hit the brain. And if its a buck a headshot will 99% of the time destroy the rack. You should always aim 2 or 3 inches behind the shoulder, taking out the heart,liver and lungs, or in some cases all three. Or hit them in the neck, they usually drop straight down after hit in the neck or spine.
@ReggieRhoden For 1 thing, you can only hunt with muzzleloading rifles in Ohio, and for only 4 days, so handling a rifle wont do you much good anyway. 2, if your so great of a shot why not do something usefull like enter the military? And BTW, both military sharpshooters/snipers and police sharpshooters are urged to take upper body shots rather then headshots do to the risk of error. For a REAL sharpshooter, a headshot is only taken is thats the only option. So stop talking out of your ass.

@darrian1984 Deer are dumb, and since it happens so fast and its so devastating, they for the most part feel nothing since adrenaline kicks in instantely. Also, if they are shot right dont live more than 10 seconds or so, which isnt long enough for them to realize death or feel the pain. I dont like to see deer suffer, just this year I shot one. I exploded the right lung and the heart was in peices... the deer didnt make a sound, didnt run, didnt quiver, it probably doesnt even know its dead yet

@flippinaarin Deer are actually somewhat smart, they've been fooling hunters for years. And the only way to shoot a deer without it feeling any pain at all is to shoot for the head, but you should never do that. When they get hit in the heart they feel pain, then the adrenaline kicks in, and just before they die the pain comes back. Much like in a fight, the first punch hurts, the rest don't do to adrenaline, and after the fight you start feeling soreness and pain again, same with shot deer.

@tmsods 9 times out of 10 if a shooter aims for a deers head he succeeds in blowing the bottom jaw off. You only have about a 4inche area to hit the brain. And if its a buck a headshot will 99% of the time destroy the rack. You should always aim 2 or 3 inches behind the shoulder, taking out the heart,liver and lungs, or in some cases all three. Or hit them in the neck, they usually drop straight down after hit in the neck or spine.

@ReggieRhoden For 1 thing, you can only hunt with muzzleloading rifles in Ohio, and for only 4 days, so handling a rifle wont do you much good anyway. 2, if your so great of a shot why not do something usefull like enter the military? And BTW, both military sharpshooters/snipers and police sharpshooters are urged to take upper body shots rather then headshots do to the risk of error. For a REAL sharpshooter, a headshot is only taken is thats the only option. So stop talking out of your ass.

@Ghost6971 You'd think you'd get a good shot after waiting that long. I always do. I actually do hunt. I cant join military because im only 16 but both my older brothers are getting deployed in January. I can actually get a good headshot. Although its an idiotic idea.

@111MadMan111 you can easily get a clean kill without a headshot if you shoot him right behind his shoulder you can take out the lungs hearth liver and a few other vital organs myself have dropped 6 deer 4 were bucks by shooting there with my 12 gauge slug on 2 of them and my 30-06 on the other 4 so you can get clean kills without a headshot

That was a great shot. That deer was not getting back up. I would have probably got excited and shot it again,but it was still a great kill.

i've never been deer hunting and i have the dumbest question on earth. When u use a slug shot gun do u just use the regular bead site or do u have rifle sites? What kind of ammo do u use? Hollow points? Now for maybe the dumbest question of all. Do people ever use buck shot to hunt deer or any other animal or is that more of a self def round? ANyone feel free to answer. Thx!

@MrAzcabowabo I hunt deer with the bow and the shot gun. You can use what ever sites you want and I use hollow points and there are other to use and you can use buck shot but it's not very good and you can use it on deer, geese and coyote and other animals.

Great vid, great leadup to the kill and a great shot. reading the other comments it makes u wonder if morons from Queens know that the meat they buy at the grocery store was once a live animal? they actually think that we don't eat what we hunt, that we just do it to brag, WOW !! its time to leave the city and find out where your food comes from. and realize that theres more to life than subways and highrises.
