this thing is a beast! it fits well in my 922 HAF case even tho 1 screw hole is off from the case; but with everything plugged in that i have right now its only gobbling up about 190W the cables are not that short that come with it everything runs nice to where i need them to go on my 990fx sabertooth. plus the lifetime warranty upon registration cannot be beat! and it also has more modulars on it than you will probably ever use- the sata power cables that come with it support 2 sata each
@blowupuate13 It has the worst Voltage Regulation. It cannot deliver clean voltage, and the spikes will cause you to crash when a decent overclock is applied. The one i have, cannot do 4.0 GHz on a I7 ON WATER. I have the Mosf's WC and the Bridges, and it still cannot do it. Even at room tempature in the case.
Looks at Enthusiast reviews such as JonneyGuru. This isnt for Overclocking
@blowupuate13 look into the corsair HX and TX series. Every single one of those power supplies are top notch in just about everything. I would have gotten the TX 850 had I known what I do now.it has steller voltage regulation, and a single rail design, and actually does do its certification at room tempature. I read overclocknet alot, and corsair seems to be what everyone is moving to these days. Btw, unless you doing some 4 card setup, you shouldn't need 1200 watts.happy hunting =)
@Gondee thanks for the reply! i will take your advice into consideration but my pc will be running at a minimum of 950 watts so i definitely need that 1200 watts plus i like to go just a little bit overkill because i think it puts less stress on a psu therefore improving reliability
"A floppy drive connector...hey, who am I to judge you?"
This is the power supply I'm looking to get for the computer I want to build. I love the modular design, only having to add cables you need, awesome feature.
well , remember, just like the GTX 295 review, everyone was also waiting for the review to come out, and he couldnt do one cause everyone bought it all so they could not do a review, probably the same thing is happening too with the 5870 and the rest.
BTW nice power supplies, but i prefer Cooler master's UCP PSUs, they are awesome.
I don't know to much about the actual hardware in a psu, but the fact that it is fully modular is a step up from the corsair 1000 watt that is only semi modular.
i'd run that thru me again... my 1000w X3 has been holding up for 2 1/2 years now running 3 9800 GTX+'s with a q6600 at 3.8. i dont think corsair even makes a 1600w like Ultra... Nope. no they dont... and so it leaves Ultra with effiency (to me) and variety of power...
Nice post! I have a BFG GTX 280 OC and that alone needs a little over 500 (Not sure of the exacts right off hand) and I run a 700 80 plus, can't really imagine 1600 for basic home use or comfortable gaming.
um one word for you... MODULAR.... and fully. new 40nm cards are WAY less power users than the older 55nm and 65nm gpus and when they become more popular, less power is needed. Also, Corsair's 250$ hx 1000w is dual rail design. not AS efficient as a single rail design like ultra's 200$ X3 1000w and isnt all that quiet compared to ultra's psu's...
not FULLY bitch... Ultra has the patent to make only fully modular power supplies. They even make their cases with cable ports for easy management!...
Whats the difference when all consumer motherboards use the same 20-24 pin connector:
It always has to be plugged in.
You called me a bitch because of connector(s) that always need to be plugged in.
If your argument stands on a thread of needless modularity and not on the efficiency, build quality, and aesthetics of the device, it is you sir who is the bitch.
and their cables (for the X3, but screwed up for the X4) ar slim and can easily be tucked by drive bays that are hollow enough. they also make it easier to cable manage with zip ties...
Seasonic also does fully modular, as does Silverstone. If I were to get any PSU today, it would be the new Seasonic X series. Fully modular, fanless operation at lower loads. And better quality than Ultra. I don't like Ultra anyways, not after the outrageous X2 series mislabeling incident.
all im saying is what you say about ultra's quality is not entirely accurate. im using their X3 1000w for 2 years now and i have had no issues or power instabitlity with it.
yes and only because the X3 series didnt have one lol. so its more cost-effective than a 1600w, but more performance than a 1000w. bang for buck in a way.

if you have a hexa rail psu (1200w) does that mean that you can only get 200w to the CPU 8 pin plug instead of 300w?

Looks like they moved away from the flat Flex Force cables. WTF, those were awesome cables, just like the Corsair cables, except 100% modular.
Cheers

i havent seen the ultra x4 in person but there isnt a lot of psus that beats corsair in terms of quality.
davidxu1019 2 years ago
oh yeah. For sure corsair has better quality i'm sure..... Just for the record thermaltake makes some psu's that are probably just a bit better.

Yeah well your opinion is bias and irrelevant because:
1. You have not had experience with all 3 manufacturers.
2. I HAVE had experience with all three manufacturers.
3. No consumer needs 1600watts (Tri-Sli = 900 watt sufficiency)
4. Ultra cannot beat Corsairs 80-Plus Silver Efficiency standard.
5. Ultra Cannot beat Corsairs single 12v Rail
6. Ultra cannot beat Kingwin's market share and appeal to gamers.
