It just seems really dumb that you need to press a button with your finger to put the RP500 into "stomp mode." They must have stayed up all night wondering how they could defeat the purpose of an otherwise good idea. Real smooth.
I have a question. Could the RP500 be like the Edge's pedal board from U2? Meaning, can i play "get on your boots", and turn on/off effects of that song?
I do Not know why In the hell someone would boast about this processor It lacks 90% of the features It should have Drum Machine, Shimmer Space Verb, Acoustic Simulator & so on a Delta Lab has as many features & cost much less.
I bought this pedal at Guitar Center about 3 years ago...Still running strong and it's just perfect. Honestly guys if you have a big selection of smaller pedals like i used to have, sale them on craigslist or ebay and buy this. It's just fuckin perfect. The only flaw that it has is they're no drum machine... But it's not really a big deal because you can Torrent some nice free ones or find some off of Google to DL. Keep on rockin guys.
I just got my rp500 today and am amazed, 100% improved the tone of my peavey 6505 . Love how I can just plug my guitar into the unit, plug some headphones in and just practice on the couch. One of the best things i've ever bought
Around 1995 I bought a Digitech GSP 2101 awesome Sounding best I ever heard but It had a lack of memory like only 2 effects could be used with the Gigaverb & It quit working right & do Not know where to get It repaired. Then I got Digitech GNX 3000 but I did It lack Shimmer & I did Not think It Sound as good. Then I got a Delta Lab combine It with a few Danelectro & Behringer pedals & Its great. The other night EBay I bought a used Digitech RP500 for $175.00 I can't afford new stuff any more
hello, can anybody explain to me the concept of amp effects? I mean the randall/marshall/mezaboogie/ cabinet included in a multi-effects? please, I'm having real hard times understanding it. If i have a Laney cabinet, why do i still have to use the Marshall cabinet amp embeded in the multi-effect guitar processor? please, I am so green with those concepts. hope you understand..
well, honestly i think it really distorts the guitars tone too much, it does not sound musical through that digitech, sorry, but i liked the me 70 more, more feel, and tone, just saen from a person that knows..... but if you just want a crap load of effects and some outragous distortion, then at face value it seems good, un till you actually have to live with it......
Ive owned this product for a year and in all honesty the effects were cool at first, but the tones lose their likability after a while. i dont know if its the components or what, but imo they are starting sound tinny and unfocused
@g00b3rsVAN Yes, it's pretty much the same. The rp1000 has a few more effects and amp models, but they're very much the same. HOWEVER, the five additional switches make the use a lot easier and I wish I had paid the little extra to be able to switch the effects without switching between the preset and stompbox modes.
@Wallu1991 You can still use the up-down buttons in stomp mode, this gives you more flexibility. I was going to rig a detachable extension to the patch sw. to turn it on and off but since finding out that bank up and down works in stomp mode I won't bother, just gang up the patches I use most in consec. locations. As the 1000 costs a £100 more for 5 buttons, way better .
i have been on the digitech website and i am really interested about the new tone store. i just don't know how to transfer the tones from my computer to the pedal. Anybody know how to do it?
@denisgiann well I've never been a person that would give such a responsibility to an effects processor only, I think that there's nothing like having a really good amplifier to determine your tone, The amp sims, is only a plus in effects processors....
@MarkMezhn My friend standalone the more expensive Gt 10 has worse distortions than rp 500.if the amp sims-the core sound - are lucking good effects dont rectify the situation..sure you may have a good real amp so you dont care.....but then again saying gt 10 is better is false...you should have said.....gt 10 WITH a good amp is better..not standalone....hell even free amp sims on the pc are much more realistic than gt 10.
@denisgiann well, I'm an electronic engineer, I know all i have to know About both devices and their technique specs, And I rather GT 10 :) It's way better for sure, but, it's all about tastes, If you like the rp500 more, it's totally great! CHEERS MY FRIEND!
@MarkMezhn First you say its way better for SURE and then you say it all about tastes...kinda contradicting yourself there but anyway....i urge anyone before forking dough for the Gt 10 to hear even freeware amp sims than sound already better than this unit.Sure the effects are good but if you need only effects you get a dedicated effects unit not an overpriced mfx...you cant say gt10 is the best if its amp sims fail..has to be good at everything to be the best....sadly even pods top it now.
@denisgiann Not contradicting at all man, when I try any device, I make a several research about all it's hardware, then I compare with others, Considering that, I really preffer GT 10 with it's powerful Composite Object Sound Modeling, But, If you after all that information still preffer rp500, It's very respectable, I was a digitech customer for so much time, They're all good devices, But seriously Roland Makes better hardware ;) cheers!
@justinsanesaid12 you can assign the footswitches to different functions, but you cant do multiple delays per preset. You would have to go to the edit menu and change it manually each time you wanted to go from say a tape delay to digital, etc. But there are 100 user presets so theres plenty of room to recreate a preset multiple times
HEY JASON ...thanks for sending Jennifer out to show off the Digitech systems...she does a great job and even thou I cant play guitar yet I want one!!!! Do you have any instrument synthesizers too? I want to play every other instrument but only thru guitar, some day...if I ever can pick this learning stuff up...geeesh, gonna take me years lol! Thank goodness for Jamplay for lessons!
During my journey thru the effect pedal/effects processors world, I have owned all of the name brands. The Boss, M6, Zoom, Digitech, etc. I started with the RP500 and after two years and several thousand dollars, I am back to the RP500. Great tones, nice features, solid construction, and most important, easy to use. The X-Edit patch management software is a dream to use and for all of you tweakers, it's Heaven sent. With the firmware 2.0 download, you also get a 20 sec. looper. Rock on \m/
I almost chose the boss-me50 over this until I seen your comment with the new firmware saying it has a 20sec looper. Thanks so much man! If it wasn't for you i would have gone with boss.
No problem. It's a firmware update, so make sure your use the X-edit software to back up all the patches or it will erase them all! It's very easy to do. I love mine!
can the pedal bypass the amps preset effects and just give out the actual effect of the pedal...cause i have a line 6 amp which has a lot of reverb and silly sounding CLEAN effect !, i wonder if u can bypass that reverbed clean effect of the amp and just hear the pure effect of the pedal ?..please advise....i hope you understood my question
@Englishbobwv I think If you have modeled amp tones it'll be okay. I mean it will be as digital as amp modeling is. You can always play through the amp using it as a monitor and connect it USB to record.
someone wanna help me out really quick...should i go guitar...pedal...amp or should i go through the effects loop of my amp. i have a peavey 6505+ 112 combo (SICK AMP). and i am also wondering what i shoul set up in PRE mode vs. POST mode?
@boroslash its definatly gotta be the digitech rp 500, i had both, the me 70 was brilliant with assortments of different effects, however the digitech seemed to feel more alive and real rather than the me 70 wihich felt like a typical multi-effects pedal feels like, un-natural, dead and fizzy. The digitech rp500 is worth its money and feels so much more alive and the possiblilities are endless to create and contrrol YOUR sound which is what every guitarist ever wants.
@marekokukur Depends on what you want the pedal for? what music you play, Do you have a good amp and need effects. Are you prepared to spend time creating your own sound? Then get the gt8. if you need good amp sims and an easier interface get the rp. (Both are great pedals and come close in my humble opinion)
Can someone please help me... i have this processor and when i turn on the wah, it gets really loud. when i go into the wah setting to turn down the wah volume, it turns down like the volume to everything. so can someonr tell me how i can just adjust the wah volume without it effecting the volume to eveything else.. thanks
the amp and cab by pass is actually useful cause if u have like a real marshall stack, u can by pass the amp model on the rp and use effects only. can the rp355 do this?
I was choosing between the Boss ME-70 or the Digitech RP 500. I love the Digitech because it is more effects for the buck. There is a lot of distortion, amp, and cabinet selections and it is easy to adust my effect than previous Digitechs.
gt is considered to be better and it sells better than the digitech rp 500 but the g 10 costs 450 and the rp 500 costs 300 dollars a tried the g 10 but i liker digitechs sound way better
I like when the guy play with the natural distorsion of his amp in bypass, I would using the rp500 with a analog pedals or the distorsion of some vintage amp... the true bypass are a good solution...
this pedal seems to be nothing special. it has basic effects. it just seems like they just focused mainly on your typical distortion and overdrive etc. and put 50 different styles of distortion and overdrive etc.
you can crank the pedal down i believe ;) the only thing that could be bad about it is that it all will alter your original sound so you have to adjust settings to your specific wishes
Its really easy man, to be honest I havent really got into storing my own effects yet. But the computer software that comes with it is great. Its like a Big interface of the pedal and when you change settings on the computer the pedal changes too. Then you can save and move effects around, its great. If anything the sounds coming out of this thing are just amazing.
ive had my rp500 since late year and i carry it around pretty much every other day to band practice and i've used it in about 30-40 shows and it's still going good. they really out did themselves
The RP1000 works SO much better as a "switching system" (as they claim), since you can put any effect / stomp box pre' or post'. IMO this system works best in front clean amp, unsing it like you would use a pedal board.
Second, stop comparing it to Bradshaw! Apples and oranges, kids.
Are you kidding me they use this shit player and tone to try and sell these things. Come on mic that amp up and get some real tone. Check out the boss vid's they put this to shame. I know this pedal sounds 100x better then you make it sound.
with this pedal, in preset mode, can i edit the presets? so for instance, can i edit preset one so its fuzz and delay, preset 2 as clean and chorus? also, can i have whammy as the main thing to use on the expression pedal instead of volume/wah?
I was looking at the RP1000 first, but sounds like the RP500 would work just fine. However, is it possible to use your amp's preamp distortions with this unit? I assume that in this case, you use the RP500 in the effects loop? I love the crunches on my new Bandit 112 Transtube and would like to be able to use them along with the RP500's modulation effects/whammy/wah.
Agreed but you can get sued from band / record label if you use a song without there permission Eddie just sued Nike for supposedly using the same stripe pattern on a shoe as Eddie has on his Frankenstein guitar ... LAME
I dont know why you got a thumb down,my Digitech whammy is an essential part of my rig but I always have two on hand because honestly they are unreliable.I have to have one thing or another done or complete replacement of these pedals every 3 yrs..So I can believe what you said without a doubt. And digitech is known for being unreliable thats a fact. But its affordable gear so there will always be people that swear by them.I will get Thumbs down but its the truth, and dont really care, lol.
And one yet again proves my point,6months ago my whammy needed to be re calibrated, guess what, yes it needs to be done again.frigging unrel man,Ive got to find a better whammy/pitch shifting pedal than the digitech whammy, unreliable piece of awesome sounding shit.lol.
Are you using it near any appliances such as computers, tv sets, or defribulation machines? Are you using it near any florescent lights? Are your cables old?
yea im near a computer and a TV too, o yea another thing is that see wen i plugged it in the adapter blew up...........i got it replaced....do u think it has anything to do with that?
As a rule, I generally try to keep my musical gear away from any other kind of electronic devices to minimize noise, but I've never had anything blow up. Sounds like something more serious.
That is very strange. That actually sounds like you had a seriously defective power supply or a fried power outlet. I hope the one you replaced it with works out okay.
it didnt blow up it kinda fused........ yea becoz the power supply here is 210W and it required 110W.............but i asked the guy at the shop and he said that...........that most likely wouldnt have too much to do with the sound
yes you can this is like any other stompbox just it has a bunch of digital effects(which sounds crappy I might add. I'd rather get a bunch of pedals for about the price).
ohhh but least you can still add more to it its like loads of effects in one for like 300+ dollars i can just get 3 pedals cause i just need dalay compressor and a reverb and it almost cost same price all in all so id rather get the rp 500
but the thing is u can find cheaper and better versions of the pedals ull need. trust me i have a fab metal pedal a fab chorus pedal and a wah pedal. they all sound better then any distortion, chorus or wah on my friends rp500
I think this can be a great rig depending on your application. I'd never use this with my real rig, but I just started playing at a church and I can't bring my amp in, they run everything through DI boxes and a big mixer so I can't get of my analog tube sound anyway. I think I might buy one of these to leave at the church so I don't have to lug in my pedal board twice a week.
It just seems really dumb that you need to press a button with your finger to put the RP500 into "stomp mode." They must have stayed up all night wondering how they could defeat the purpose of an otherwise good idea. Real smooth.

Can someone please help me... i have this processor and when i turn on the wah, it gets really loud. when i go into the wah setting to turn down the wah volume, it turns down like the volume to everything. so can someonr tell me how i can just adjust the wah volume without it effecting the volume to eveything else.. thanks
chipdirk91 1 year ago
I guess (not sure though) you can use compressor right after you wah...see the map of the circuit of the pedal effect... it is possible...

if you compare the digitech whammy option with the line6 bender option which one is the best?
RythmTR 1 year ago
the amp and cab by pass is actually useful cause if u have like a real marshall stack, u can by pass the amp model on the rp and use effects only. can the rp355 do this?

The RP500 has a 20 second looper on the 2.0 update ONLY. Hook it to your computer via USB and update it.

Oh yes there is, but i don't know where to turn it on.

There is no looper.
The looper is on the RP1000.

I was choosing between the Boss ME-70 or the Digitech RP 500. I love the Digitech because it is more effects for the buck. There is a lot of distortion, amp, and cabinet selections and it is easy to adust my effect than previous Digitechs.
86TAman 2 years ago 12
see im kinda new with multi effects pedals and im tryin to find a good solid pedal, the gt 10 is pretty amazing from what it looks like

I like when the guy play with the natural distorsion of his amp in bypass, I would using the rp500 with a analog pedals or the distorsion of some vintage amp... the true bypass are a good solution...

i have this pedal for my birthday gift and yeah i like it
truth3110 2 years ago
this pedal seems to be nothing special. it has basic effects. it just seems like they just focused mainly on your typical distortion and overdrive etc. and put 50 different styles of distortion and overdrive etc.

coolioca 2 years ago
would this work on my spider III 30 watt amp? also can you turn the wah on at any time or do you have to click to a setting?
coolioca 2 years ago
it works with every amp :P and i think you just can activate the wah by hitting a button and then just press the footpedal.
CypherThanatos 2 years ago
you can crank the pedal down i believe ;) the only thing that could be bad about it is that it all will alter your original sound so you have to adjust settings to your specific wishes
ImpThaW 2 years ago
how bad will this thing alter my sound when none of the effects are in use? (in peadalboard mode of course)
lavalamp360 2 years ago
Just bought this pedal today....wow, lol its awesome man
teamhex 2 years ago
is it complicated to use?
iRiSHiNS4NiTY 2 years ago
Its really easy man, to be honest I havent really got into storing my own effects yet. But the computer software that comes with it is great. Its like a Big interface of the pedal and when you change settings on the computer the pedal changes too. Then you can save and move effects around, its great. If anything the sounds coming out of this thing are just amazing.
teamhex 2 years ago
thanks man i was thinking about getting this but it looked really hard to use. i am definitely getting one now. thanks once again :D

Yes
luckyguitar123 2 years ago
The RP1000 works SO much better as a "switching system" (as they claim), since you can put any effect / stomp box pre' or post'. IMO this system works best in front clean amp, unsing it like you would use a pedal board.
Second, stop comparing it to Bradshaw! Apples and oranges, kids.
OfficialMikeMotter 2 years ago
Are you kidding me they use this shit player and tone to try and sell these things. Come on mic that amp up and get some real tone. Check out the boss vid's they put this to shame. I know this pedal sounds 100x better then you make it sound.
DLOWSHIT 2 years ago
with this pedal, in preset mode, can i edit the presets? so for instance, can i edit preset one so its fuzz and delay, preset 2 as clean and chorus? also, can i have whammy as the main thing to use on the expression pedal instead of volume/wah?
orangemonkeyjamie291 2 years ago
yes but u need to go through each effect and edit it

bonuzround 2 years ago 2
Only people who know how to play guitar well should do gear demos.
OfficialMikeMotter 2 years ago 2
I was looking at the RP1000 first, but sounds like the RP500 would work just fine. However, is it possible to use your amp's preamp distortions with this unit? I assume that in this case, you use the RP500 in the effects loop? I love the crunches on my new Bandit 112 Transtube and would like to be able to use them along with the RP500's modulation effects/whammy/wah.
Thanks!

But its affordable gear so there will always be people that swear by them.I will get Thumbs down but its the truth, and dont really care, lol.
petiethepitt 2 years ago
And one yet again proves my point,6months ago my whammy needed to be re calibrated, guess what, yes it needs to be done again.frigging unrel man,Ive got to find a better whammy/pitch shifting pedal than the digitech whammy, unreliable piece of awesome sounding shit.lol.

hry guys i alwasy get a humming sound on my RP500 can u pls tell me a way to get rid of it??
nemisis1590 2 years ago
Are you using it near any appliances such as computers, tv sets, or defribulation machines? Are you using it near any florescent lights? Are your cables old?
thefacelessmonster 2 years ago
yea im near a computer and a TV too, o yea another thing is that see wen i plugged it in the adapter blew up...........i got it replaced....do u think it has anything to do with that?
nemisis1590 2 years ago
It blew up?
As a rule, I generally try to keep my musical gear away from any other kind of electronic devices to minimize noise, but I've never had anything blow up. Sounds like something more serious.
That is very strange. That actually sounds like you had a seriously defective power supply or a fried power outlet. I hope the one you replaced it with works out okay.
thefacelessmonster 2 years ago
it didnt blow up it kinda fused........ yea becoz the power supply here is 210W and it required 110W.............but i asked the guy at the shop and he said that...........that most likely wouldnt have too much to do with the sound
nemisis1590 2 years ago
wait you can combine this with single stomp boxes right?
jolosan321 2 years ago
yes you can this is like any other stompbox just it has a bunch of digital effects(which sounds crappy I might add. I'd rather get a bunch of pedals for about the price).
facebook123123 2 years ago
ohhh but least you can still add more to it its like loads of effects in one for like 300+ dollars i can just get 3 pedals cause i just need dalay compressor and a reverb and it almost cost same price all in all so id rather get the rp 500
jolosan321 2 years ago
but the thing is u can find cheaper and better versions of the pedals ull need. trust me i have a fab metal pedal a fab chorus pedal and a wah pedal. they all sound better then any distortion, chorus or wah on my friends rp500
facebook123123 2 years ago
I think this can be a great rig depending on your application. I'd never use this with my real rig, but I just started playing at a church and I can't bring my amp in, they run everything through DI boxes and a big mixer so I can't get of my analog tube sound anyway. I think I might buy one of these to leave at the church so I don't have to lug in my pedal board twice a week.
