Hey, my name is Carissa, I'm having this surgery after Christmas this year. I have a open bite as well. My surgery is being done at the St. Marys hospital in rochester mn. How was it during those first few weeks out of surgery? Did you have to miss any school? How about work? Were you nervous about how you would look afterwords? I'm very nervous, I'm afraid that I won't like the way I look after. What was your experience?
Hi Carissa, I did my surgery summer time so I didn't have to miss any school. There are many different types of this kind of surgery, so your recovery will be largely dependent on which type you are doing. If you want to send me a message, I could give you more details. I was nervous how it would turn out, and hta'ts to be expected. My surgery actually improved how I looked, so I was very pleased.
My surgery is going to be pretty major like yours was. I have a 7 mm open bite, but also a light overbite. I also have a chin that is too far in, and a teeth that don't even show with my smile. In what time period did you lose 20 pounds? What would you say was the hardest day on you? Did you have to have a tube going from your nose to your stomach? My doctor said I that I will.
The first 2.5 weeks were hell on earth. I had a deviated septum which they fixed, but it also caused me to have "the worst head cold of my life" combined with being wired shut = breathing was extremely diffiucult. Pain wasn't an issue for me, discomfort was. You'll look better than you do now, trust me. As long as your surgeon knows what he's doing, it's not a issue. Surgeon experience is the most crucial thing, however.
Did you have to pretty much learn how to eat again when it game to chewing food? Like, with my openbite, I can't bite anything. It's pretty sad. only the far back teeth on my right side touch. How was brushing your teeth? Were you able to use any mouth wash or anything? How long did you have to wear the wireties and hooks? I just got mine on last wednesday.
Ya, the first month or so eating felt totally foreign. It's like my jaw didn't know where it was, nor did it have the power to open more than a few milimeters. When I was wired shut, I brushed the front of my teeth, but used Rx mouthwash for everything else. I still had some nasty plaque build up, no caries (cavities) however. I was wired shut for 6 weeks, then braces for 6-7 months after that. Good luck w/ your surgery! You'll feel better soon, stay strong!
lookn like a fukn retard lol ur funny dude......well u want to know how my friends describe me to other people.."oh yah u know kyle the dude with the jaw" fukn suxxx cant wait to get my jaw surgery
What did you eat during the time your jaw was shut? I broke mine a couple days ago and at the moment i'm only having a couple milkshakes a day, maybe some soup. Was skinny as hell before i broke my jaw and i really don't want to end up looking like i've lived in Ethiopia my whole life.
Man...if you were skinny before, wait until after, wow...I went in at 190, came out a different man, people thought I was my little brother (I'm a only child). Eat HIGH CALORIE stuff - blend chicken pot pie with chicken broth, and eat warm (1000 calories per pie, nice), eat weight gainer, ice cream + peanut butter +fruit shakes...basically any high fat thing. Welcome to hell, afterward you'll appreciate life a whole lot more.
u must read this. once u have started there is no turning back. a little 10 year old girl was raped and murderded in 1945. her body was not found until 1947. then a boy last week read this and did not copy and paste this message. the dead girl appeared in his room haunting him and killed him. if you do not copy and paste this onto 10 vidoes in 30 minutes the dead girl will apear in your room tonight and haunt you and kill you. well you better start to copy and paste to be saved
It was a lot...even with my shitty insurance...It ended up costing over 10k out of pocket. The surgeons fee was 20k, anesthesiologist charged a few k, plus hospital stay. Without insurance, would have been in the 30k range. But worth every cent.
yo my jaws wired shut and tomo will be 3 weeks HALF way, WOW most depressed iv ever been dont even fuck my gf lol scared il bump my face or get short of breathe since nose is only airway, lost 15lbs in 1st week, eat once aday and some gogurts, kno your pain man,few meals 4 anyone else w/prob, beanless chilli,cheese,sourcreme,/ kfc mashed p,skinless chken, refried beans nacho cheese enchilada sause, use big surenge push it in,not a good scene
Yeh dude, it's a super shitty time. Try getting some microwaveable potpies, putting them in a blender with some chicken broth, and eating that - good calories good taste. I've been unwired since late August now, back up to 185, only 5 pounds less than my pre-surgery weight. Just hang in there, buy some creatine and protein, and bang it out.
ahhhhhhhhh!!! 5days since my jaw surgery upper and lower..and i didnt think id say this but its not thta bad...i was otally depresses on day 2 onwards but since yestrday it's got better...i so regretted it at 1st but it's ok now..im wired together so have so much pressure on my jaws!
Today is 2 weeks post op for me and I'm dying...how are you making it? I don't eat enough and I'm having that clenching pain...so I'm crabby all the time! Any suggestions on good food to eat, well liquify? Thanks! :)
Also, the "magic bullet" is a pretty good thing for this surgery, and you can use it after wards. Be sure to buy some whole milk, you can use it to make milkshakes with protein powder, and it's fattening and decent in calcium, so that should help too. Good luck man.
Under-open bite. Overbite surgery I think is pretty much the same thing, just moving the jaws in a different direction. The big difference is if they surgeon has to cut 1 or both jaws, and whether is the top or bottom jaw. From what I understand, the top jaw is worse recovery than the bottom...and of course both totally sucks.
Yah it sucks, but I'm 3 weeks into it now, and it really isn't awful..worst part is watching everyone else pound steaks and fish while I slurp on my liquidated chef boy-r-dee. Good luck on your recovery man, your not alone out there
I wish you well with your recovery. I am 5 weeks out and I love my results - you will love your results too I am sure. We should get bravery awards for going through this!
Good luck, it really is probably the worst week or so of your life. The worst part isn't the pain, it's the congestion...it's like the worst head cold of your life, and you cannot open your mouth or blow your nose.
Hope you feel better, and waiting for follower. I will do my underjaw surgery in a feve weeks and then its good to see that people like you can recomend it! Thanks fore posting
