I agree with everything except the perfect pushup. It sort of defeats some of the movements that Tony shows on the vids. It's really just me splitting hairs, though. I envy the selecttechs....I really want the 590s.
Thanks man! You have a great voice and way of explaining things. I definitely will have to forego the expensive weights but they would be nice. Thanks again for the video! ATL KL
Just remembered the name of the chin up bar was Iron Gym. I see it costs a little more now. But regardless these are tips that saved me a few bucks in the end. Times are rough and I hope these pointers help save someone some dough.
As for resistance bands, I also got myself a set after getting curious about how they would differ from the dumb bells. They are better at a select number of exercises, but not as good as the dumb bells overall imo. If you do want a good set at a cheaper price, get on Amazon. I got a set by Bodylastics (Max Tension Set) for $60 shipped and they are good so far.
The P90X chinup bar was copied by a few different off brands. I remember getting mine for about $24 shipped and it came with a free extra. I don't remember the brand, but the quality was very close to my friends official chin up bar. Search around on google and see what alternatives you can find.
For those of you curious about the bowflex dumb bells, my local sports authority had them on sale for $299 + the weight stand for Free. I also signed up for their cred card which was no interests for 6 months I think, and got an additional 20% off (cancelled the card after paying off). It's a great deal with added health benefits for you!
You got alot of good prices on all that stuff! I need a cart for my dumbbells. He's right when he says its a pain to switch up weight with those selecttech dumbbells, but they are awesome. Dang last post was 2 years ago. No wonder all that stuff was less expensive than it is now.... Hope you got the results you wanted. I just started my P90X this week.
ok i have a problem i was in my 3rd week and i hit a wall of no energy all i wanted to do was crash and sleep i don't know why i work on the midnight shift have 4 kids and work 10 to 12 hours a day so I'm not sure how to get past the wall of tiredness does anyone have any answers to help me please i need some help with finding what i'm doing wrong is there anyone else having these problems? i love p90x and want to continue !!!!!!!!!!!

Hey i was just asking if 2 dumbells are necessary, I dont currently have the p90x atm but i am planning to order them soon and i wanna prepare myself with the gears before hand, also is it $350 each or with 2 sets?
$350 is for a set. Not $350 for each, but the stand that it this guy has them on isn't included, but you can get them for cheaper or as a package(Both Dumbbells & Stand) on E-bay. I was looking at it the other night and saw ppl that where the winning bidder get it for about $300-$325. Used of course.
I'm a P90x student right now, and I use the resistance bands, and altho there much cheaper then the dumbbells in the video, the bands has some draw backs, like they put more strain on ma elbows and shoulders, and some exercises like the "Shoulder Press" is annoying cuz the bands grinds against my forearm, and before you do an exercise you have to make sure there even on each side of your body, you can't just pick up a band and begin working out like how u can with a Dumbbell.
I heard nothing but bad about the select techs, which is why im going with powerblocks. There alot faster when it comes to adjusting the weight since there not tied down with 2 knobs rather then a single pully
Your video helped a lot to help what i need to get to be prepared for the p90x. i have been checking out other peoples videos and yours has been the best. Thanks a lot man!!
bowflex dumbell system is discounted down to $150.00 at the dick's sporting good store near me... and all the other items you can cut the prices in almost half, if you get them off ebay/amazon etc
lol, i have everything this guy has except for the chin up bar setup (i have a regular straight bar chin up/ pull up doorway bar), i dont even have the p90x so im planning on buying it sometime next month. Im a skinny kid so i want to see what it would do for me. Ill post a few vids as soon as i get the product and keep everyone informed.
hola soy de argentina, and wanted to know the price is p90x chin-up bar in your country, the p90x chin-up bar, not sold yet in my country, just a similar model AIRON the gym, and asked whether the possibility exists that you send me, I deal with shipping, and you receive the money as I remove the mail. I hope you understand my poor English, thanks.
I just bought the selecttech 552. Does the weights(plates) move around on you alot? For example, when your curling the momentum of the loose weights causes the handle and your wrists to role. It doesn't really feel solid or safe...
I agree, however as I see it. I've spent more on stuff that contributed to me getting unhealthy. Xbox 360, video games, junk food, etc, etc, etc. So why not spend a fraction of that on getting healthy.
From What I've seen, it looks to be about 75 cents to a dollar per pound. So a set of 20lbs dumbells would be abou 40 bucks. Check out your local Craigslist and newspapers- there's alway a lot of gym equip. available cheeeep. :)
I agree they are expensive but I needed something compact and most of all mobile. I couldn't find any other option. There are some similar select the weight type of dumbbells but they didn't have mobile stands.
@AbetterMeP90X...its actually alot cheaper buying those Bowflex's than spending money on a whole entire set of dumbells up to 50 lbs. I wanted a variety of weights and the Bowflex was definitely it. I get them in the mail next week...can't wait to start P90X. Thanks for the video.
I loved this video! Keep showing things like this. I am planning to start with P90x (after I am done with Power90) and this video told me everything I wanted to know about equitment. Thanks again!
Great video. I really need to get the yoga block and mat. My flexibility sucks and when I am engaging my core I sweat like a dog too. I'll have to check out the perfect pushup as i need all the help I can get. The bands are great if you travel - and they are helping me gain strength with my chin ups.
I like the video - I just started P90x this week, and am evaluating dumbbells. Did you evaluate the Powerblock option as well as the Selecttechs? I am torn over which one to get.
Hello. I got powerblock dumbells from Amazon slightly used for $199. They work fine for me. No problems with the shape of them getting in the way with curls, etc. Once you get used to which weight you will be doing during a DVD, it's easy to use.
I did check out the PowerBlock, ultimately there the same thing in terms of changing weights quiclky, the PowerBlock system stand isn't mobile it has a flat base. If you don't need to move it's just as good as the BowFlex. Neither system can be changed fast enough to prevent the need to pause the DVD. So the major difference is mobility of the equipment.
you seem like a big dude with some power in terms of lifting, so did you need to use dumbell weights above 50-55 lbs for this program?
