  • So, noone ever found that cave for 7 centuries in the middle of fucking London?

  • GROOVY

  • Every body, this ending is a sign of Evil Dead 4, which means the 4th sequel is in plan, the orig ending seems to be a happy ending, so this means Ash' quest isnt over yet

  • they should make Evil Dead 4 where Ash would be like Mad Max

  • @Wolfenhords I believe they are but without Bruce Campbell. I don't know which ending it will follow, either way I'd definitely watch it.

  • @hfctorch nope bruce is in it

  • yeah the smart ending is better

  • Comment removed

  • THANK YOU FOR THIS ENDING =D great

  • HAIL TO THE KING BABY

  • this is the official ending in the polish version :)

  • @elomaniak oh wow, sorry...

  • @elomaniak halt die klappe mein junge! XD

  • in brazil this is yhe official ending

  • @racionador oh wow

  • Shit ending

  • Ash last man on Earth :D

  • Wait... I've seen this ending when this was on tv.

  • 1 person isn't groovy.

  • This was the only ending I'd seen. I think this was the better one.

  • I remember my father showing this movie on a VHS tape, and this was the ending I saw. It was hilarious in my opinion!

  • I'm glad this wasn't the ending, but then again, this is one of the coolest alternate endings EVER!

  • Yeah, I like the original ending better. Anyway, how did evil Ash turn Sheila into a deadite?

  • Wait... he doesn't age, but he grows a beard? That's odd, but hey, whatever.

  • I SLEPT TOO LONG!!!!!!

  • I remember this ending! It came with the special edition tape of Army of Darkness back in the late 90's! and it was extended just a bit, The Movie not the ending.

  • awsome ending too bad no 4rth movie

  • Sad Ending..

    LOL !

  • Does anyone notice that there is a discrepancy with this ending? In the beginning, Ash said that he ended up in the year 1300 a.d. So if he took 6 drops, he would end up in the year 1900 a.d. And 7 drops would take him to the year 2000! I guess that's why they didn't use this ending.

  • @Cellmate412162 I was actually the one who brought up that EXACT argument on IMDB movie boards, where people argued with me non-stop. Some people just don't want to accept the fact that their favorite movies (although great) do have mistakes. Yes they screwed up. Ash did say it was roughly 1300 AD... So he should have accidentally ended up near the correct time with his extra drop. The old man/wizard or whomever you wish to call him's math was off by 100 years by telling him to take 6 drops..

  • @Cellmate412162 The argument is that ash miscounted. look when he's taking the drops. he takes five, looks at the window and then counts five again. so he took seven drops.

  • @mrdropkicker1 You misunderstood the poster's argument. You're statement was blatantly obvious to this ending. The "Wiseman" said each drop is 100 years, to take 6. The poster's argument is: Ash states he is in 1300 AD. So, if he took the correct amount of drops he would have awoken early in 1900 AD. (6 drops = 600 years). That one extra drop (7) he would awaken near the year 2000. Not when the film was made but still better than the Old West.... and people he knew would still be around. MATH!

  • @hfctorch Evil dead takes place from the mid 80s to early 90s. so he would have slept for seven extra years anyway even if it was 1300 and not mid 1300s.

Ya know what. Agree to Disagree?

  • @hfctorch You got to be aware of the fact that it might be a alternate reality, where the undead have come back and flood the earth. Perhaps this was a idea for another part, he comes back and something went wrong and now the undead rule the world.

  • @Yakura Then what would be the whole point of this entire scene where he takes an extra drop by accident? It was purposefully done. Ash is so careless its amusing.

  • @hfctorch I don't think he means exactly 1300 A.D. Because as you said, he's so careless, it's amusing. He was probably more concerned about what century it was than which decade it was.

  • I hate this ending. It doesn't make sense, since we saw in Evil Dead 2 that he did come back from the past as a hero and is featured in the scattered pages.

  • @soyyoeh No no. In the Evil Dead 2 the book shows a warrior (weilding a chainsaw, unbeknowest to Ash.. it was him) in the past that saved them. It didn't show him coming back from the past.

  • this was the only ending i saw for years (in the uk, this ending was used instead of the theatrical one for some reason)

  • Wait, so he slept for a few hundred year? Okay.

  • this ending wasnt on any blu-ray or dvd i own? confused

  • @madrat355 It's on the Bluray: Screwhead Edition (as an extra feature, as an alternate ending). You purchased the cheaper versions.. It's on a special edition of the dvd as well, I believe the Boomstick Edition (may be mistaken on that one, but pretty sure)

  • i like more tjis en

  • My God.. he's woken up in a distopian nightmare ruled by Tim Burton!

  • So where's the difference?

  • daaaa dada da daaa daaaaaaa duuuaaahh daaaa dada da da daaaaa *music fades away*(back to the future theme music)

  • we're going back in time dadada back in time dadadada yeaha back in tiiiIIIme

  • 3:47-3:58, reminds me of that guy from Monty Python's Flying Circus

  • @TheVoid1221221 you can almost hear him say "ITS"

  • If Sam makes an ED4 in my view it should be a new story and Bruce should have cameo role in it. Bruce is too old for Ash now.

  • No wonder at 2:12,I hear Ash counting "5" another time.I thought the 1st "5" at 2:03 he didn't take the 5th drop at all.

  • I grew up with the S Mart Ending, i just seen this for the first time and i actually like this one better In The Evil Dead, it ends the same way with him in the the kingdom being haled with him saying NOOOOOOOO. This ending would have kept with the basis, but i guess they decided to use the S Mart version because they knew there wouldnt be a sequel. Still waiting for Freddy vs Jason vs Ash though.

  • this ending was good, but really dark and depressing

  • How did the bing bang tower get there?O_o

  • This is the ending i always knew...which is the other ending?

  • i kinda like this ending better cause it returns the darker tone l(evil dead 1&2) and iam curious what else ASH will put in his arm LightsabreChainsaw maybe ???

  • @kaimargonar1000 and maybe some Cyber Deadites ?

  • Ash is an Idiot, he got a hot girl, he is a knight and a hero in that english kingdome

and he left it behind, what for?

to be a seller in S-Mart?

  • @jaguar4u2 s-mart is his life man, and nobody will take it away from him

  • @aglewi41

    LMAO

  • @jaguar4u2 No, god justs hates him, and when does anything go right in his life?

  • @jaguar4u2 Don't forget no internet, no germ-free packaged food...No lavatory paper.

Actually I think I could live without the second two.

  • @whade62000

oh you are so shalow, your whole life is Internet only?

    How about Love!

Adventure! seeing the World! new beggining!

and believe me the food was fine! there wasn't any mutated vegtebles and Colorized food with lots of fats!

  • @jaguar4u2 Maybe he didnt want that, maybe he wanted just to sit on a couch and watch television.....And masturbate.

  • @jaguar4u2 To be fair, the medieval ages kinda sucked some big ass

  • the second ending is wer hes working in s mart again an the second one is wer he wakes up in his car in the future which he went over time

  • I think Ash ended up in the Fallout universe....

  • how can there be 2 endings??? this isn't a video game, which one is the real ending? and which ending is UK and which ending is USA???

  • @TheCommentGuy8 I know from growing up, The USA one is where he is telling his whole story in S-Mart and some girl thinks his story is "cute". Then a deadite shows up in the middle of the store and says she will swallow his soul. He says come get some. He blasts her tons of times with his shotgun. Then while narrating he says, "sure I could've stayed in the past, could've even been king, but in my own way i already am king". Then he grabs/kisses the girl and says, "Hail to the King baby".

  • @TheCommentGuy8

Most movies filmed have more than one ending. This was supposed to be the true ending to Army of Darkness, but test viewers did not approve of it as they felt it was too depressing. So Sam Raimi was forced to reshoot it with a happier ending. If you get the graphic novel of Army of Darkness, it includes this ending, not the S-Mart ending. I think this apocalyptic version fit better with the tone of the movie.

  • @TheCommentGuy8 the S-mart one is (I think) supposed to be the "real" ending. IDK why the decided to keep this one in the UK version. Lots of movies have alternate endings, this is just one of the few with a significant difference between the two. They film both, then decide to trash one later.

  • @TheCommentGuy8

Thios one did not make the cut...so its pretty obvious witch one is the real one. The one your and me and the rest of the world saw. Aint like rocket sience dude

  • @TheCommentGuy8 This is the ACTUAL REAL ENDING that we got in europe - the alternate ending is the us teathrical ending that Sam Raoimi was forced to tag on. The problem is in the us movies go before test audiences & either a test audience or a studio big wig didnt "GET" this ending. This was considered too negative for American audiences who unfortuanatly cant deal with the hero loosing so they had to hurridly reshoot an ending for the us market which is frankly shit! This is the real ending

  • @TheCommentGuy8 There's two ending because they shot one (the apocalyptic one) the studio didn't like it so they shot a funny one (S-Mart). Some say the S-Mart ending is the original (real) because it was used in the original theatrical ending, the filmmakers say the apocalyptic one is the real one because it was shot first and they now use it.

  • @TheCommentGuy8 the ending where he takes too many drops and wakes up in the future where everything is burn't to the ground. Thats the u.k. version!.

  • @TheCommentGuy8 this is the u.k. version. I had this debate in 1997 with my mate. I watched this version when in the u.k.!

  • @TheCommentGuy8 as far as i know this ending was used to continue his adventures in the comic books...

  • @TheCommentGuy8 It's an alternate ending that didn't make the cut. Duh.

  • aww i wished there was a continue of this ending cuz it was sounds interesting! D:

  • This one actually seems to fit better with the rest of the movie but I still like the s-mart ending better. It's just so much cooler and "hail to the king, baby" is one of my favorite Ash quotes. I still wish they would've made a fourth film, but I guess it's too late now. Bruce looks too different, and you couldn't have a sequel without him.

  • the ending that made the cut was much better. besides if the did make the sequal

it could be a zombie movie, or he could go back in time and fox everything the right way.

  • @tygon345 I agree. While both endings are good in their own way.. there is a lot more room for writing potential with the S-Mart ending. I read a few months ago that Bruce Campbell said if they do make a sequel, he won't do it. In Evil Dead he was a teenager, and the 3 were supposed to be simultaneous. He didn't look 18 in Army of Darkness at all. He said he is too old for the part now. So it won't be the same without him, regardless which direction they choose, I surely I wouldn't watch it.

  • @hfctorch

hehe..sounds like he is changing his tune now that it looks like Rami isn't going to do it. They were in talks to do it before Spiderman came out, and before each sequel they were always in "talks" but I guess when the studio kept dumping piles of money in Rami's front yard, it was a bit hard for him to concentrate on anything else. And when Rami finally pulls away from Spiderman and gets to make "his" movie, he leaves Bruce hanging once again and makes the so-so Drag me to Hell

  • @hallows99

What are you talking about? Raimi has been writing script pages for Evil Dead 4 with his brother Ivan. Now that Spider-Man 4 has been canceled, he's been revisiting the new Evil Dead film more and more and intends on making. Bruce Campbell is also in mind to return to the series as Ash.

  • @Elfrunner

That news is more than a year and a half old. Look up the latest news. Sam, his brother, and Bruce have all made comments within the last several months that the movie is:

    A) not happening

    B) might happen

    C) I'd love to..but who knows... None of these sound very encouraging do they?

  • @hallows99

This was recent news. Sam Raimi said he would like to revisit Evil Dead, save that he was in the process of doing Spider-Man 4. When SP4 was canceled, this left his schedule open to do Evil Dead 4. There was talk of Raimi directing the Warcraft film, but even that is somewhat sketchy at this point. I haven't heard anything about Sam Raimi or Bruce Campbell saying it flat out wasn't happening. As I said, Raimi and his brother write pages of script for it and Bruce hasn't said no.

  • @hallows99 Oh come on! I'd like to see another Evil Dead movie as much as the next person. I'd also love to see Bruce in another decent film, but Drag me to Hell was was still a great movie.

  • @ManiacLord654

Well, everyone has there own opinion. Personally, the 90 mins of "Boo" scares, gross out scenes, bad CGI, and just plain silliness (come on,a possessed goat) didn't do it for me. If the movie had been played entirely for laughs it might have been better, but half the time it tried to be a serious horror film and the other half was spent "borrowing" from his older movies.

  • @hallows99 I guess I have an odd sense of humor. Or maybe I was just expecting it to be pretty wacky like AOD, but I enjoyed it. I was expecting exactly what I wound up getting out of it. I can see why some people wouldn't like it though and I'll admit that the goat was a bit too over the top, but I don't mind an occasional WTF moment. It's not his best film, but I liked it.

  • @hfctorch In fact they made a comic book series following the theatrical ending (The S-Mart one) in whick Ash goes around dimensions fighting evil shit left and right

  • @hfctorch

You forget that this is fantasy/horror/comedy. Even if Raimi had been able to keep this ending, they still could have made a sequel with it. They could have had Ash continue fighting in a post-apocalyptic world or find a way to return to his own time from the future. And in regards to the continuity errors in the series, it's Evil Dead. It doesn't really matter. The setting had alterations in each installment.

  • @hfctorch

I still want them to make the Fred vs Jason vs Ash movie. That would be AWESOME.

  • @hfctorch Regardless Bruce NOT being that young anymore, i would like to see at least an 'older' Ash, still talking about those days with his same attitude and whatnot, like how he is portrayed in the Freddy Vs Jason Vs Ash book

  • @hfctorch do you think thered be a possibility for n evil dead videogame? you know, where bruce campbell would at least voice it? im not sayin we should do what they did to terminator (arnold didnt belong in salvation) but still.

  • @Extra365 There are three Evil dead games. Or was that "n" supposed to be "new"? If so, no. Not even slightly. Its been too long. Remakes are more likely, since games already released arent of the greatest of quality. Still wont happen unless the Evil Dead franchise has a resurgence of popularity.

  • @FantasticExplosive If you include the one on the Commodore 64, there's four. :D Also, Sam and Bruce have been in talks of an Evil Dead 4 for a couple years now. It was supposed to be a remake, but fans basically told them to go to hell.

  • @emphaticleech

I actually heard they are a just a few pages into the script but keep getting caught up in other projects or just forgot and didn't do it. That at least what I heard off an Evil Dead site. I don't know if its true though but I would love to see a forth. Also I would be less harsh on it because Sam and Ivan Raimi. And I would be pissed is Bruce Campbell wasn't Ash. He is the trade mark for the character and anyone else would just suck. AndNo one has a chin like that besides Bruce.

  • both endings leave it open for a sequel. this one because hes not in the right time period, and the other one because he accidentally raised the dead when he went back to his own time.

  • I have to bootleg edition, and for some reason it played this ending. I can't remember if I chose or not. Damn.

  • S-Mart ending is WAY better, and leaves the movie open for a sequal. thats why it makes the cut

  • is there ever gonna be a evil dead 4? I remember when this came out bought it the same day it wuz released man I wuz a hardcore evil dead fan back then :D we need more evil dead bruce!

  • @ChainsmokingPothead btw what do u mean didn't make the cut? I got this on my vhs copy of army of darkness.

  • I'm "Essentially" in the UK (Ireland) so the "ISTL!" ending is the norm.

  • I remeber watching this on Sky Movies twice, about a year apart. First time it showed the "I SLEPT TOO LONG!" Ending, Then at the end of the credits text popped up saying "What if?" (Like the 28 Days Later alt ending) And showed the "S-Mart" Ending. Then a year later i watched it again on Sky Movies. It had no S-Mart ending at all.

  • i kinda like this one.

  • this wasn't a bad ending, and this would've left it open 4 a sequal, but it was pretty depressing in my opinion

  • @ReservoirDog1026 Really I don't get why many people say this would make for a better sequel over the S-Mart ending. The S-Mart ending isn't nearly tied up. It seems there are deadites everywhere in the present. Ash could find a way to rid all of them and be a hero of our time. In this ending that I posted... it would be more like a zombie movie with Ash fighting deadites in a ugly dead world. I can see a better storyline in a sequel to the one that made the cut. (S-Mart)

  • @hfctorch well i can KINDA see a sequal to the S-Mart ending, but i think it makes a better conclusion 2 the series. what i honestly think they should do if the wanna make another Evil Dead movie is do a Ghostbusters crossover. SERIOUSLY.

  • @hfctorch why not 2 sequels? it did have 2 endings, right?well kinda... I vote for two movies a fucked up one with him in the future and one in the present.

    Who's with me?

  • @hfctorch I wrote a treatment for ed4 where ash is alive in the future & is the only human left in a world of the dead - I wrothe it before seeing I am Legend. It leaves a lot of scope for comedy & a killer final battle. Just takes some imagination.

  • "I SLEPT TOO LONG!!!"

Sounds like something I would shout when I'm late for school...

  • I prefer the S-mart ending, but I think that would do great to make a sequel.

  • Yeah the S-Mart ending is so much better

  • still better than Spiderman 3

  • Wrong, the S-mart ending is way better and hilarious, this is interesting to see but doesn't fit well.

  • so for like 700 years no one all those boulders stayed intact and know one checked inside of it

  • doh

  • I liked th other ending better. Was more of a climax and resolution. Plus it had Ash saying "Lady I'm gonna have to ask you to leave the store." Which was awesome.

  • 1 2 3 4 5 "rock falls" 5 6 lol

  • So... in 100 years, every city in the future will look as Las Vegas?

  • Allright you primitive screwheads, listen up! :D

I checked out Bruce Campbell on imdb.com. Evil Dead IV is in development!! :D Then we'll see from which ending they will continue the series. Bloody amazing!

  • Cool I never saw this version before!

  • s-mart ending is way better..he gets the girl and thats all that matters

  • This in my opinion is a much better ending but everyone is entitled to their own opinions

  • 1,2,3,4,5,....5,6

  • lol man this guy never gets a break

  • I get the setup for a sequel idea, and *if* they ever made a sequel, post apocolyps would be great. But that's if. If it turns out they can't make it, then what? Then we're stuck with a sucky ending for somebody we are supposed to root for

    S-Mart is better.

  • For me this was a case of the theatrical ending being much more satisfying than this alternative ending. Why? Because the S-Mart stuff is just classic Ash. "Hail to the King, baby."

  • he took 7 drops instead of 6..

hmm if 6 drops was suppose to send him from the 1300's to around the year 2000

i'll make sense that each drop made him slept an extra 116 years about

so by taking 7 drops we can conculed that he woke up around the 22nd century

    year 2116'ish

  • The only ending I've seen on TV is the S Mart ending

  • army of darkness vs. marvel zombies continues ash's story

  • are they going to make a video game based off of this ending to how he goes back one century?

  • if i win the lottery im funding evil dead 4

  • mmmmm. no

  • I actuelly wish that they put in this ending, cause I wanted more Evil Dead!

  • lol when he miscounted the number of drops, I was like "Dude, he took 7 drops. How can the editor miss THAT?" Then when Ash overslept, I was like "Ohhhh, now it makes sense."

  • Thi IS the REAL ending. On tv everywheare it is this ending.

  • Evil Dead 4: The Apocalypse

    i hope this one comes

  • This ending is better. And Sam Raimi should make Evil Dead 4 - as a continuation to this ending. And Bruce Campbell should star in it.

  • this ending made more sense because in the comics and games he never got home he always warped somewhere else

  • yh this was on TV in UK and they showed this ending very weird they would do that :/

  • i hope they make another ash movie soon , bruce campells running out of time

  • oh ash

  • he took one extra one

  • that chick is ugly

  • i wonder what the hell you could do in a situation like that, obviously none of us are ever going to be in that position (knock on wood) but it seems like the only thing to do is go insane

  • i wonder what the hell you could do in a situation like that, obviously none of us are going to be in that position (knock on wood) but it seems like the only thing you could do is go insane

  • I like the other ending better. This one is just too cruel. It's not like there will ever be an ED4, much as we would like to see one.

  • I like it, but I do feel bad for Ash.

What I would have done was have him come out, just like that, he screams thinking all is lost. Then a truck pulls away, revealing it was a Billboard for Evil Dead 4: Dead UK and he really is back in his own time

Then after the truck pulls past people on the road, one is Rami and he says "that looks like a good film." They could make an alternate timeline with ash trying to return to the one I just described, cause some time traveler screwed up the past.

  • When I saw the movie for the first time, this is the ending it had. Gotta say I like the other one better :)

  • s-mart ending was too good, this one is okay

  • This ending is rather depressing, poor Ash, I felt sorry for at the ending of Evil Dead II, it shound't happen to him twice :(

Sure, it would have been awesome to see Ash in postapocalyptic england, but the theatrical ending ends where it should end, with Ash being awesome.

  • Actually here in Mexico this was the original ending according to my memory !! After many years i just watched it today again on Cinemax and it had a different ending!!! WTF????. anyways.... it would be cool that today Sam Raimi...could make a sequel...where Ash wakes up in the future...and of course he is Older..!!...but not as fat as the actor is right now LOL

  • The S-Mart ending was soooooo much better. U.S. version kicks ass. you crumpet eaters must hate ash, theres no sequal so its a useless ending. S-Mart makes a perfect ending to a perfect movie. HAIL TO THE KING BABY!

  • @FordMan055 I'm a 'crumpet eater' and I liked both versions, gave totally different scenarios should the Raimi brothers wish to follow the series on. And Ash is cool, btw.

  • IVE SLEPT TOO LONG!

  • Indeed, this is better ending and this is the real ending, s-mart ending is made for yanks.

  • @TheNoniii So I assume Brits like sucky endings. Gotta remember that.

  • I never knew about this ending! It was always..."Shop smart, shop S-Mart." I had no idea they had an alternate ending...THATS CRAZY!!! I kinda like the idea of him waking up in a post apocalyptic world. It's a good set up for another one. Although they aren't doing an actual sequel I did hear it will be remade with Bruce Campell in it but not playing Ash. Just like Ghostbusters 3. Bill Murray is in it as Peter Venkman but is killed off in the beginning and plays a ghost the rest of the movie.

  • There's no official news about an evil dead remake, but if they do it should be serious with bits of humor scattered in appropriate places. We have the campy movies, let's make them serious now.

  • This is actually the ORIGINAL ending. The studio thought it was a "downer" so Sam decided to shoot the S-Mart scene.

  • @RAVENCRYDARKSTAR Wow.I didn't know that.

  • Man the s-mart ending is way sicker, more in tune with the rest of the humor of the show

  • If they used this ending, they could have made a sequal...!

  • You'd think he's be just a little groggy after sleeping for 700 years...Hehehe...

  • evil dead in the future o.o maybe robtos possesed by the demons :D

  • he forgot to set the time travel alarm clock and overslept

  • He took too many drops
