That's TRULY a winner. The man got to go to the ballpark everyday, drink Budweiser, watch a Cardinals game and tell his friends about it over the radio. Could it get any better than that? He let it show too, how lucky he was.
I'm old enough to have been blessed to hear the legend live, and young enough to regret that I didn't hear him longer.
In my mind, he was one of the top five play by play guys ever, probably # 1 but I'm probably biased. LOL
I lived in St. Louis from 1969 to 2000. We always listen to the mouth as we called him in St. Louis, Jack Buck was the best. I met Stan and Jack in Dec. in 1998. I asked Stan if he had his harmonica and sure enough he did.
This is the gayest song i've ever heard.....can we just get a montage of Jack with some of his best calls??? Hearing his call of game 6 of the '91 World Series over and over again would be better than this cheesy ass song.
Vin Scully, Jack Buck, Harry Carey, Harry Kallis and more that I'm sure I am forgetting were cut from the same mold of greatness. The only true sad part about that is baseball is rapidly beginning to lose that type of broadcaster and my never get that back. At least, not with tv. Even though i am a cards fan i truly loved to hear them all and miss the ones who have passed terribly.
As a life long fan, my earliest memories of Cardinal baseball are the pictures painted in my mind by the voice of Jack Buck. I didn't realize at the time I was listening to a legend. I was just grateful that the person on the other end of the microphone was there to describe the game so vividly and so eloquently. I continued to listen to Jack's broadcasts, even when the game was on TV. This video and the song are fitting tributes. Jack Buck you made us all winners. God Bless and thanks!
I grew up listening to Jack Buck every night there was a game. I loved the man and he was the Best of the Best.... Thanks a million Jack for all your dedication. We miss you, and no one could ever fill your shoes.
I came to America in 2006 as an exchange student and I fell in love with baseball, though I also still love soccer as well. Then I heard the broadcasting of Jack Buck and this was really something special, the way he depicts the games and brings them to life. Salute to Jack Buck and greetings from germany
at least most of u guys got to hear him be the greatest commentator in baseball...im only 14 nd i live on illinois-wisconsin stateline so i never get 2 listen 2 cards games...God i wish i coulda heard him live...
Just want you all to know that I still check out this page once in a while and that I am very flattered and humbled by all the comments...thank you so much. I'm glad the song has touched you and appreciate your letting me know....
Great video - Jack certainly was a winner! He is with all the greats in Heaven now & his earthly remains are here in JB. Still a parade of cars to pay their respects. You are a winner Jack! Thanks to the Buck family for sharing him with us.
Great video and song. I can still hear that famous call of thats a winner. Some of my best memories as a kid was staying up late listening to Jack and Mike on WRAY here in Southwest Indiana.
I was born in 1980. I was not fortunate enough to hear him in the 60's or 70's but he was as apart of my childhood as anything else. I am from St. Louis. I can't count how many times I went to bed with his voice in the background.
When my dad was a kid he use to sell papers out @ sportsmen park on the nights the cardnials payed & Jack & Harry would come up to him & Harry would by a paper from my dad for 5 cents give him a quarter & Harry would tell him tio keep the change.
when i was a kid i thought jack buck's voice was the voice of god, because that's what i grew up on was cardinals baseball. No one can top the days of Big Mike and Jack. greatest commentary duo ever in my mind. Loved Jack Buck and when i heard he died me and my dad sat on the couch and wimpered when ESPN paid tribute to him.
Me too. My dad shared hundreds of stories with me that day. I wish I was alive while he was in his prime, but he was still great when I listened to him. Class act.
Great song. This guy Batson has the makings of a great song writer and singer. Check out his firefighter tribute song "Don't Call Me a Hero" and "Everybody Needs to be Loved by Somebody" both on you tube.
This video really moved me I absolutely love jack buck he is easily my favorite cardinal of all time he made it so you were at the game even if you were 3000 miles away. joe does a good job too but no one will be as good as Jack. Thank you Jack!!
"Thats a winner!! GO CRAZY FOLKS GO CRAZY!!" and i love this one to and it wasnt even a cardinal one it was when kirk gibson hit the walk off "this is gunna be a home run unbelievabe i dont believe what i just saw" What a great guy RIP Jack!!
thanks alot. now I want to cry like a baby. SMITH CORKS ONE TO RIGHT IT MY GO........GO CRAZY FOLKS GO CRAZY THE CARDINALS HAVE WON THE GAME ON A HOMERUN BY THE WIZARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I totally appreciate you doing that. I searched for him when I first did the video. I never thought anything I did would receive any kind of attention. Jack Buck made it easy, Jeff Batson put it into words and all I did was find some old photos to tell the story. Thanks for all your support!
I had tears in my eyes watching this, not only for Jacks memory but for that of my Dad who spent many summer nights in the dark listening to Jack call the Cards. Thanks
what moron does a tribute with NO audio of Jack? My god! Can you be any more out of touch
