  • aus welchem land kommen die?

  • aus der mongolei

  • bzw. aus tuva (angrenzender teil russlands)

  • Don't think that the guy to the left is just making some kind of wierd sound. He's actually singing two octaves at the same time. Listen carefully, it's really cool.

  • That extra sound you are hearing is actually a harmonic created when the two voices are combined. None of them are acutally creating it on their own.

  • that's not true, the guy on the right's making it, and you can hear it when the guy on the left stops. check out the wiki page on tuvan throat singing.

  • Erm. No he's not, you fucking liar!

  • He's right. It's creating a beat because of the differences in the frequency of their voices. BITCH.

  • You silly little brat! Wasn't talking about a beat at all, we were talking about octaves and harmonies. These singers are clearly not singing a note as a double octave, he just isn't, you might as well say they are singing a western, heptatonic using all notes at the same time. Wnpgguy is right that we are hearing harmonics in the harmonies, they are also producing chords and intervals. Similar to Mongolian Throat Music.

  • Mongolian Throat Music is basically this. Tuva is the area where the Tuvan Throat music comes from. The politics of the area are complicated but, though it is a Republic, it is generally considered to be part of Russia. Geographically it is in the deep south of Siberia.

Look out for Yat Kha. They do great Western songs like Love Will Tear Us Apart (Joy Division) in the Tuvan Throat style. Very impressive.

  • Sweet *making new bookmark* :)

  • Just curious... would that hurt your throat after a while?

  • gotta put this on my myspace profile!
