There are many high quality without being japanese. I personally like SMB3X, Cookie Crisis, SMW2+3, and Tale of Elementia. I personally think it would be nice to see a quality hack that isn't just fustratingly hard. :)

It actually makes sense that a mushroom costs one life and a flower or "potato" costs two, because they protect you from the respective number of hits. Basically, it's swapping chances to die with chances to take hits to continue, at the expense of somewhat nullifying further item usage.

Nice video, although that what happened to the castle in world 3? I don't that was in the last video, and you started from world 4-1 or something in this video...

Oh, and for interesting hacks? The Cookie Crisis, Super Mario Bros 3X and Ore World/Lost Water seem like potentially interesting hacks with some clever gimmicks and ASM. Maybe even pick a hack at random from the site you get the kouhai/houtai/mario :p :p :p games from?

I second Cookie Crisis. Played it blind myself and had a LOT of fun. It has great level design, a reasonable difficulty curve, and great custom bosses. And despite it being a demo, it ends on a boss, so it doesn't feel as anticlimactic as some other ones.

I live in Florida and turtles aren't as dangerous as they used to be. The pelicans are what we are really worried about nowadays with their "oh yeah i like to poop in your mouth when your not paying attention!"

oh and if you want a play a new asm gimmicky hack, try yoshicookiezeus' "The cookie crisis" its one of the best new hacks out there, unfortunately its not really asm gimmicky in ever level, still fun though.
