i always liked how in sonic 3 and knuckles that instead of the 1st act fading out the next it was just one huge stage in two parts and when you beat the boss they literally travel to the next area

@groudon2006 I loved the continuity between zones as well. Like how in Sonic 3, Knuckles pushes the switch and the ground beneath your feet collapses, causing you to fall from Angel Island to Hydrocity, and hear that amazing Hydrocity music.
