i love watching kelly dance...the reason i watch GH majority of the time, and the way she can handle TOUGH criticism is inspiring...but seriously? couldn't they have gave her a partner that didn't look like he was made of solid plastic?
A Few Mistakes My Backside... Kelly was VERY !!!! BAD!!!! Yeah she was the first winner... blah...blah blah... You know good and well if she had dance that same performance last season she would have been going home early.. way early! Did you hear Len say .."That was unbelievably great..." REALLY ?? Len ??? WOW ! I like Kelly , I just dont wanna see her dance again.. ever..
ok so Kelly's timing was off a few times but look how far she came from the first few dances she did! She gave it her all and did a damned good job! I love her, she is sexy and deserved to win!

Ok, that was good, but I never understood 10's for this performance. There were some major f-ups. It really is an insult to the better caliber of dancing we see on this show now and the lower scoring that you see for some GREAT dancing. Every little mistake now deducts points. Maybe it is because the show has grown? Or maybe it is because they had to be a little less strict early on to draw an audience? Or maybe they have seen so much great dancing over the seasons? Still-.undeserved 10's.
I loved this freestyle, almost every season someone does like a hip-hop and its refreshing. But this dance reminds me of the dances the pros do on the results show with lifts and all.
Kelly's attitude, her heart, set the tone for the competitors to come. Everyone improved, including the pros, who initially didn't think the celebs were serious about this. As it turned out, the best were VERY serious and demanded more and better routines so now we are used to a much higher quality. We don't want very good dancing anymore. We want professional level dancing, hence all the injuries and the audience griping on message boards. And the freestyle always won or lost the competiton.

what? they won?? they made too much and too big mistakes. in my country we also have same show. and some partisipants never danced before but they dance much way better than them...these dancers would take the last place if they dance like this every time...its very low level..i am sure many profesionals would agree with me
I was a HUGE kelly fan. I am so glad she won over john hurley. I thought she was a much better performer then him. And when he made a huge fuss and then they had the dance off episode I was so angry! However I have watched every season since this one. And studied some ball room dancing. And looking back. This performance wouldn't have got her a perfect score. She was way off balance and missed count twice. I do think she improved more then anyone ever on the show. And still did a great job!

@sidrandle02 Yeah shortly after she was made Champion, the guy who came in 2nd challenged her to a dance off for "charity". And he won. And he kept making comments like " if anyone should have gotten a perfect score it should have been me" they were made to do 3 dances, and kelly got really low scores. It was awful. But she was still the champion of season one. So thats what is important...

Wat I observed: at 2:22 she forgot the choreography and had to look at Alec. Dismount sloppy at about 3:22. She banged her knees on the dismount at 3:11
In an interview I read with Kelly after she won the show, she said the reason her face looked like "somebody had died" was because she had recently gotten her wisdom teeth pulled, and her mouth was probably still a little sore. Poor girl! so glad she won, though.

It's been three years since Season One ended, but it still bothers me that Kelly Monaco and Alec Mazo received a "perfect" score of 30 from the judges, to win it all.
YouTube now lays bare the fact that their freestyle (to "Make it Loud") was ANYTHING but perfect.
Note that, after Kelly and Alec descend the stairs and they begin to dance side by side, she seems frozen and unsure of what to do next. She looks over at his feet, and finally gets in step.
Oh DONNAITAL did I hit a nerve? LOL I'm not in a dance competition so if I can or can't do better than falling on my knees and waiting to be told what to do, doesn't matter. That dance was no ten, not one ten and definitely not three
She stopped several times to watch Alec to figure out when to move and what foot to use. She wasn't very smooth in transitions and her lifts were horrible.
I think John was a major baby, whinning that he didnt win!! Kelly put all her heart into this show, she worked hard and she had absolutely no previous dance training at all. yes, compared to the others seasons freestyles this one isnt nearly as great. But, you also have to understand this is the first season of dancing with the stars ever. They didnt get to see other peoples freestyles
They have to "see" how others do it? Alec is a pro surely he knows what to do in a free style. The difference isn't "not seeing" how to do it, but working with what you got. Alec did the best he could with a star who wouldn't be in the same league with other winners from any season since.
Season 1 was a different beast from what it is today. It's not logical to compare the seasons. The comparisons should be with the contestants within the season and for this season she improved continuously and consistently and she deserved the win.
compared to her performances in the beginning, she was the most improved competitor, and she won b/c she was humble about the whole experience. john wanted the dance-off because he couldn't accept defeat.
she won because female fans (mainly soap fans) voted for her. It is obvious females are the main voters. Men have won every year since. Her soap character status is what kept her in.

I agree. She doesn't even come close to being the best compared to some of the other celebrities in other seasons. She looked stiff alot of the time and even scared. She wasn't that great and can't understand why so many people thought that she was.
It was a bit messy in parts, for sure. But it was still more interesting than JOH's Freestyle. Which was so schmarmy and kinda slow. So overall, I agree, she took the Freestyle round and I was totally fine with her winning. And JOH? What a whiney baby. Totally lost respect for him whinging about some stupid dance contest.

Why did she win? John was a much better dancer, but at least he won the Dance Off.Kelly hung up her dance shoes after this, but John kept on dancing which I think is another reason why he won the Dance Off.
It wasn't the best dance freestyle I have seen in the final but she won cuz she really improved from the beginning to the end and also the public supported her all along.
The judges were not easier in seasno 1. In fact, the only 3 10s given out season 1 was the final show. On seasons now 3 10s are often given out long before the final show.
Was season 1 a bad bunch and Kelly the worst of a bad bunch. I don't think so. IMO John OHurley had better technique and was a better dancer. A poor sport? Sure but a better dancer.
Compared to other winners or even other season dancers Kelly is not even in the same league. And that dance was no 10 period.

What a good reminder of just how bad a dancer Kelly was. But in fairness to DWtS, it was season 1 and they had no standards to judge the celeb dancers by. But at least the backlash served to teach the judges not to toss unearned vote points so obviously to the ABC show plants. If she hadn't been an ABC soap star, she'd have been long gone. Absolutely no rhythm, she's painful to watch.
I flove Kelly but she did mess up... I think they were easy on her b/c of how difficult the routine was and how complicated it was! It was great... and it was the first season so she was the best that season.
They should do a show just with the winners... I think Kelly would have a great shot!!

John was unbelievable in ballroom for his age and physical stature..Kelly was in great athletic shape, yet she just didn't have any rhythm...jmho. Anyone making that many mistakes in the current season would have their heads handed to them.

Oh DONNAITAL did I hit a nerve? LOL I'm not in a dance competition so if I can or can't do better than falling on my knees and waiting to be told what to do, doesn't matter. That dance was no ten, not one ten and definitely not three

it looked liked they slipped a few times, especially when she came out of the lifts. Didn't impress me that much!

She stopped several times to watch Alec to figure out when to move and what foot to use. She wasn't very smooth in transitions and her lifts were horrible.

I think John was a major baby, whinning that he didnt win!! Kelly put all her heart into this show, she worked hard and she had absolutely no previous dance training at all. She was and will always be the firecracker, and she IS THE FIRST AND ORIGINAL DANCING WITH THE STARS CHAMPION!! NO ONE, NOT EVEN WHINNY WASHED UP ACTOR JOHN O'HURLEY, CAN CHANGE THAT!! yes, compared to the others seasons freestyles this one isnt nearly as great. But, you also have to understand this is the first season of dancing with the stars ever. They didnt get to see other peoples freestyles

They have to "see" how others do it? Alec is a pro surely he knows what to do in a free style. The difference isn't "not seeing" how to do it, but working with what you got. Alec did the best he could with a star who wouldn't be in the same league with other winners from any season since.

Season 1 was a different beast from what it is today. It's not logical to compare the seasons. The comparisons should be with the contestants within the season and for this season she improved continuously and consistently and she deserved the win.

I don't see why she won. If you go and compare this freestyle to the freestyles of the other seasons, the others blow hers away.

compared to her performances in the beginning, she was the most improved competitor, and she won b/c she was humble about the whole experience. john wanted the dance-off because he couldn't accept defeat.

she won because female fans (mainly soap fans) voted for her. It is obvious females are the main voters. Men have won every year since. Her soap character status is what kept her in.

I agree. She doesn't even come close to being the best compared to some of the other celebrities in other seasons. She looked stiff alot of the time and even scared. She wasn't that great and can't understand why so many people thought that she was.

It was a bit messy in parts, for sure. But it was still more interesting than JOH's Freestyle. Which was so schmarmy and kinda slow. So overall, I agree, she took the Freestyle round and I was totally fine with her winning. And JOH? What a whiney baby. Totally lost respect for him whinging about some stupid dance contest.

Why did she win? John was a much better dancer, but at least he won the Dance Off.Kelly hung up her dance shoes after this, but John kept on dancing which I think is another reason why he won the Dance Off.

The judges were not easier in seasno 1. In fact, the only 3 10s given out season 1 was the final show. On seasons now 3 10s are often given out long before the final show.
Was season 1 a bad bunch and Kelly the worst of a bad bunch. I don't think so. IMO John OHurley had better technique and was a better dancer. A poor sport? Sure but a better dancer.
Compared to other winners or even other season dancers Kelly is not even in the same league. And that dance was no 10 period.

What a good reminder of just how bad a dancer Kelly was. But in fairness to DWtS, it was season 1 and they had no standards to judge the celeb dancers by. But at least the backlash served to teach the judges not to toss unearned vote points so obviously to the ABC show plants. If she hadn't been an ABC soap star, she'd have been long gone. Absolutely no rhythm, she's painful to watch.

I flove Kelly but she did mess up... I think they were easy on her b/c of how difficult the routine was and how complicated it was! It was great... and it was the first season so she was the best that season.
They should do a show just with the winners... I think Kelly would have a great shot!!

Umm...Kelly would not have a snowball's chance in hell against any of the other winners...even Emmitt who was pretty sucky. Kelly never deserved to win...what a joke. John and Charlotte were amazing.

John was unbelievable in ballroom for his age and physical stature..Kelly was in great athletic shape, yet she just didn't have any rhythm...jmho. Anyone making that many mistakes in the current season would have their heads handed to them.
Patrick Swayze and all the pros said the same thing...but I'm sure all the GH fans know more about ballroom.
