Wow. Johnny's amphetamine addiction is truly showing in his appearance here. His face is so gaunt. Nice performance though. When the word "Sometiiiiimes..." is sung it's lovely.
They sound amazing, but its sad to see Johnny like that, so thin and actually looks stoned this being around the time he had his drug addiction, I hope he wasn't while singing this hymn.

@yout5944 Yes, we are lucky to have had him playing and singing for us as long as he did. Knowing his story, it made me very sad to see this video, but it is a lovely performance. Just beautiful. I don't look at Mr. Cash's problems with drugs as a moral issue...he was a good person, but he was just troubled, and he tried to be everything he could to everyone he knew. This is cool. The juxtaposition of the downright sinning Cash sitting in front of the virginal choir of Carter's is slightly disturbing to me. Ha ha, in a good way. The inherent, overt hypocrisy in country music is part of what I like about it. I think I saw Roy Acuff right at the end clapping. He(Roy) has the best version of this song I think. Of course he has the best versions of a lot of the canon, don't he? Don't throw stones in Cash houses.

@MrPontiusPilate ... who gives a flying fuck what you are ? . Its obvious you are one of the nets idiots who have no real people to talk to and get your kicks on here .
If you read books and were learned than you would understand why you're wrong. The Last Temptation of Christ was banned by the Catholic and Protestant churches here in the United States. The book Beyond Good and Evil famously claims "God is Dead". The author of the book is another famous athiest. The Dragons of Eden was written by Carl Sagan and explains the evolution of the human brain since we became land animals
Ya I guess you can because you just did. These are all books written by athiests except for the Charles Dickens book Hard Times. Get and education and then maybe we could talk. You ignorant uneducated little prick.
This is perhaps THE song that brings out Antia Carter's great voice best of all while singing with Johnny Cash, the version on the "LIVE at Madison Sqare Garden" album is superb as well
This is a fantastic performance. Thanks for linking this one. Helen, Anita, June and Maybelle sounding and looking great. The blend in with Johnny's great voice is glorious. Anita's high voice makes my knees weak. Great video!
well is the way that he presents a sharing time when he was to sing with his own he was definitely not leaving there, where they were is their's to know and not your's to wonder about anymore. I am not your freinds I was there but you'll never need me to know , Losts your mind.
@SuperUncleMonkey Indeed it was......ROAD TO NASHVILLE was released in 1966, and just the fact that Johnny actually appeared is amzaing enough, as he was just about at rock bottom, and his big rebirth was still about 2-3 years away. The Johnny Cash you see in this video was a man who was VERY sick.
Wonderful!!! Hard to believe it's been that long and they are no longer with us. I know they are singing together in heaven. Thank you for posting this.
@cjzzzzz why will you call them white trash, im a black guy and i enjoy there music, they are the best in 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60,s is the best i ever heard, there song make alot of sense then present hiphop.
@luckyisele Good to see a black person write something like that. This is real American history in living form. And beautiful music is beautiful music, period. So little of it today and seems to be a vanishing part of all real American heritage.
Early black forms like Ledbelly and Robert Johnson were not so far from this stuff and could also be called folk music. It' s money that's made music obscene.
i dont understand this song. OF course none of us were there, think about it. That happened in the first century ad how could any of us had been there? unless we have anyone thats 2000 years old alive today. its a good old time country song and I like music from that time. but the lyrics are stupid
@jasmine5000 Because you must believe it as if you were there, you must simply believe Jesus is Lord and that he died and was resurrected from the dead, therefore truly the Lord and God, and thats all he asks of any of us.
Paul said we are all (even Johnny) sinners and fall short of the glory of God. This song beautifully and hauntingly tells of our redemption and forgiveness. I have never heard it sung so well. But t6hen, there have never been human voices as great as these. a Catholic Bishop
Song sends chills all over!

@MrPontiusPilate ... who gives a flying fuck what you are ? . Its obvious you are one of the nets idiots who have no real people to talk to and get your kicks on here .
evsynator 1 year ago
@MrPontiusPilate .... ha ha ... just seen what books you read on your site ......
The Last Temptation of Christ, Beyond Good and Evil, On the Road, thus spoke Zarathustra, Hard Times, What is Philosophy, The Dragons of Eden ....
Proof of an idiot who claims to be an atheist , and some one who has the gall to call someone else a prick . You couldnt make it up ! .

@evsynator

Johnny looks pretty sick here. Was this one of his drug times? June had a beautiful voice. Johnny did not live long without her.
SuperUncleMonkey 1 year ago
@SuperUncleMonkey Indeed it was......ROAD TO NASHVILLE was released in 1966, and just the fact that Johnny actually appeared is amzaing enough, as he was just about at rock bottom, and his big rebirth was still about 2-3 years away. The Johnny Cash you see in this video was a man who was VERY sick.

please let respect each other race

@luckyisele Good to see a black person write something like that. This is real American history in living form. And beautiful music is beautiful music, period. So little of it today and seems to be a vanishing part of all real American heritage.
Early black forms like Ledbelly and Robert Johnson were not so far from this stuff and could also be called folk music. It' s money that's made music obscene.

Absolutely Beautiful!!! We sing it every Easter, but no one does it better than the Carter Family and Johnny!

i dont understand this song. OF course none of us were there, think about it. That happened in the first century ad how could any of us had been there? unless we have anyone thats 2000 years old alive today. its a good old time country song and I like music from that time. but the lyrics are stupid
jasmine5000 1 year ago
@jasmine5000 Because you must believe it as if you were there, you must simply believe Jesus is Lord and that he died and was resurrected from the dead, therefore truly the Lord and God, and thats all he asks of any of us.

Paul said we are all (even Johnny) sinners and fall short of the glory of God. This song beautifully and hauntingly tells of our redemption and forgiveness. I have never heard it sung so well. But t6hen, there have never been human voices as great as these. a Catholic Bishop
