Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction - Played it constantly and beaten it multiple times, with/without cheats. A game I could play for HOURS.

Mercenaries 2 for PS2: Played it for a week, then got the PC version.

Mercs 1 is 100000000 times better than Mercs 2 for the PS2 console.

I used to play this game for years....and finally i got o the last mission... my heart was beating, my hands were shaking, it took me about 50 times repeating this mission to come to the fort, then another 50 to stop the nukes....

First things first, no bunker busters needed, when u free his father, go to the northern base, and kill them all except those 2 small helis of NK, then fly up to the mountain, and just above the wall of the fortress evade the air-rockets and dig out...beware oh helis!

there's an easier way into the compound. stay down the hill enough to see the entrance and have your signal not jammed and call the bunker buster. then the crate full of c4 you collect and use it to blast through the concrete between each barrier with guards. it saves you the rocket ammo to use on the signal jammers in the compound. then fight out in the directions the mounted guns are not facing

I find it weird that they put a city as the backround of the main menu that doesn't exist. In my 4 years of playing the game, I have never come across this city or the Song Monument at the main menu. I used to think it was Yongbyon, but Yongbyon only has 1 big building, and this place has 2 big buildings. Has anyone else come across it?

U no wats screwed up.... u have to restart da whole game. and just to make u feel special, they say u unlocked a new level called 'playground of destruction' and u can keep ur weapons..... The game is OK but its its a good idea took pay a few extra bucks at Game Stop and use the whole year return deal and buy mercs 2 instead. :)

@089darkstar Restarting the whole game with your weapons and unlocks is an excellent feature to add in replay value. Not to mention you can use weapons and airstrikes you couldn't before in previous missions. Mercs 2 was shit, and nothing at all like the original.

I was doin this contract, and i just took an NK chopper to scout that place. Before i can even look i realize my helo is going down near a warehouse, with signal jammed, no C4 and on top of it i blew up the jammer near the computer, failing to stop the missiles....

It took me like half hour to get past the 4 gates... When i reach the final gate, (and no more jammers) i C4 detonate it, and it falls above Song and all his men =(

So i only had half payment...

I stole a gunship near the beginning of the level (had to get between some rocks so the pilot would fly low enough to grab it) then parked it. I came back to get it after completing the first part of the mission, so then you can fly all the way to the nuke device without being shot down.

I ordered the Sports car from the start of the level, then drive flat out up beside the helicopters near where kim is, hijack one then fly up to the left low and fast enough to the site.

u rarely use stealth where slipping past enemy lines undetected is used. if you have a good feel of the mission, u know where the officers are and avoid them. i prefer guns blazing. if that fails, i get in a appropriately disguised vehicle

Ahhh what a game, what an ending. Pure adrenaline. BTW, I don't like much your style; I used to have a prototype rifle and an anti-vehicle missile launcher, a much better combination. Plus 4 C4 charges for a gate are too much, I think 2 could have been enouth (or the bunker buster from the allies), so that you could have some others for the inner gates. Oh and when shooting to NK, always keep the aim at the height of the head! :)

Hint:I win by using cheats!! Infinite ammo and health makes a big difference. Also $1,000,000 and unlock all shop items(if you have them all unlocked, there is a very good and special cheat supply) is very useful. THIS is the better mercenaries by far. Much more atmosphere, and no shit humour. The game works so much better and it's actually worth getting allies in your vehicle. I used to love calling in the helicopters with the russians in it, so I could just use them to help me in a long battle. That's a thing too, you actually get properly involved in the random battles happening around the game.

one little gripe I have with your play style here. When flattening the gate, the AN gave you a bunker buster after Kim gave you the codes. Use it on the gate, and then you have C4 for the gates inside the base, and you get to watch a few nuclear missiles get launched :-)
