The sound just before launch is the turbo boost being dumped overboard. you can see puffs of boost pressure being released through the waste gate just before the rpms go higher and engage the clutch at which point the throttle is wide open and the engine uses all available boost. It has a button that you hold and it brings the rpms up to just before the clutch engaged, like a rev limiter. Its used so you already have the sled to the bar and you only have to release the button, also it cleans the sled out.

you can but not for alongtime.. snow lubricates the track if you don't have snow it will slowly jam up and stop moving then your belt will get ripped up badly.. you can't drive them in mud though.. many people are stupid and keep there sleds in there front yard intill spring when its all muddy and take it across the yard to its resting place..which is very hard on a sled
