  • It looks so easy!...

  • Jordan Rudess is such a beast.

  • @brotheregghead What the fuck is wrong with you?!?!?!....... The WHOLE BAND is a beast!!!! LOL

  • @marHAVIK

Oh of course. But Rudess REALLY stands out in this video. Especially at 1:17.

  • For me....this song is a Kind Of Classic of Progressive Heavy Metal

  • 1:17 woah there's a spider on your keyboard - sh!t he's crazy

  • is this from a dvd?

  • Portnoy's song

  • does anyone know who created that intro riff? Was it Myung? Whoever did it is responsible for the coolest riff ever written IMO. Love DT.

  • @goodvibrato sounds a little like john myung's solar groove so is probably john's rif

  • hmm, i would have thought that the tape would have been gone and everything would be digital lol oh well, in my oppinion, this was DT's best album. it has some of my favorite DT songs on it, it's amazingly epic, and it sounds better than anything else i've heard so far

  • Jordan with long hair...

And where did you get this vid?

  • one of my favorite songs

  • 1:18 ......... alien!

  • i prefer myung being quiet and not portnoy behaving like an asshole!

  • The "suck" and "gay" tracks were turned to 0 for this song

  • The most haunting and best rock intro in the history of Prog Metal. :)

  • ZOMG JOrdAn = piderman

  • 0:40/ 0:58 Myung Rulez

  • 1:16 - 1:26

    Rudess the wizard!!!

  • 1:34 So that's how Petrucci plays it... :D

  • @organmies that isnt Petrucci's hand...

  • Yeah I was just joking..

  • 1:21 looks like rudess' got six fingers

    nice

  • Does anyone know of a video lesson for johns heavy riff at 1:27? or do i have to tab it?

  • My fave moments

0:16 the recorder rewinds and starts playing the intro

0:39 myung moves into the main bass intro riff

0:58 Jordan's ROCK solid sense of timing and meter on the keys + the beautiful arpeggios when his right hand goes into spider mode.

2:10 Mike's crazy jewish ass tongue pose in which the vid slowly fades away lol.

Oh god i love these guys. Best band in the history i can think of. Seriously.

  • Amen!

  • i dont care if Ruddess doubles Petrucci's riffs but couldnt he do it up an octave so that he doesnt get lost in the mix?

  • they might have tried that already and found that it takes up too much space in the texture, or it just doesnt sound right. im sure these guys thought of that :P

  • The Glass Prison was the beginning of a very important sequel in Dream Theater career, it`s gonna be historical in a few years` time. :)

  • 1:17 BEAUTIFUL!

  • sounds like a video game. i don't like the patch but the melody is cool

  • as a spider omg!!!

  • God, that staccato reprise of JP's arpeggios that Jordan does...clean as a whistle. Just amazing.

  • Actually, Petrucci requested that Rudess write an insane arpeggio. That is what he wrote. Petrucci even admitted having a hard time learning it. AWESOME!!!

  • You can see that he actually struggles with it when they play it live lol

  • not to mention they typically play it about 4-8 bpm faster. They never cease to amaze me!!! Except with Systematic Chaos, choke!!!!

  • True, they are quite awesome like that lol And I actually love Systematic Chaos XP

  • @MorbidGuardian yeah and if you know petrucci has a hard time playing it it's got to be damn near impossible

  • Fantastic

  • Fuc**in' amazing Jordan Rudess!!! :D

  • That is one eerie intro of all time :)

  • ahh 6-string monster bass(:

  • 1:46 until the end its the first part of the whole song..

  • does anyone know whats going on at 1:46?

  • I think they are recording a song:)

  • this is such an awesome song

  • Rudes... MASTERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

  • that thing that jordan plays its just imposible to do on that speed...

  • with one hand no less, i can't play it with two...

  • I like james. Good voice, and I RESPECT him for spending 10 years without a singingvoice.

  • Without a singing voice? What?

  • Don´t you know??? He got a foodpoisoning in Cuba on vacation 26 Dec ´94. It never got a chance to heal ´cos he kept singing on tour. In the late ´90s he´s voice began to slowly come back, but he raptured he´s vocalcords again on the SFAM-tour 2000. before they recorded Train Of Thought he had a lasersurgery and he was back. Not perfect, but he got back most of he´s old range and could sing. In ´07 I think he proved that he´s fully healed.

  • I knew about the Cuba thing but not about the other stuff..damn

Where'd you hear this stuff, anyway? Lifting Shadows, perhaps?

  • No, I want that book but don´t got it yet...

Another dude here on YT (he´s a singer and a BIG LaBrie-fan) said that he have heard MANY bootlegs of DT and that you could here in DT live ´98-´99 that he´s voice was pretty good. NOT on 5 Years In A LIVEtime, he sucked at there, but mostly he was almost healed...than lost IT ALL again, poor James. But it was he´s own fault, he didn´t took it easy. The doctors said in 94 that he should take it easy but in Japan he still sang all the high notes

  • Well, not FULLY healed... if you watch the Surrounded video on Chaos in Motion you will be like WTF? im not saying that to diss him... i love DT and his singing.

  • Yeah I know that. Offcourse he dont have the same range and stamina when singing live...its impossible for him to get back totally, mainly coz hes not 25 anymore and i think he will always be a little affected.

  • Labrie struggles quite a bit now, but honestly.

Could you see Dream Theater with anyone else as singer?

  • LaBries personal voice is totally unic and he would be impossible to replace him.

  • I agree! And he still pwns on the newer songs!

  • It's true, Dream Theater wouldn't be Dream Theater without James Labrie; He's the best singer they ever had.

  • he has an awesome voice but sometimes he wails and i hate that

  • actually, have you seen live videos of DT lately? James sounds amazing. he's not struggling at all.

  • Only because Mike Portnoy said to James a few years ago if he didn't put more effort into live shows he might not be allowed to stay with the band

  • I don't believe this for one second. I can understand MP giving James encouragement, but not like just telling him. There is no way in hell Mike would ever kick James from DT.

  • I'm exaggerating a little, but MP and JP did have a word with JLB in 2003 asking him to improve his stage presence and general performance. I guess they wouldn't have fired him but they did ask him.

  • yep i saw them in southampton a couple of months back and james sounded fine even on the high notes in voices

  • MetalMassacre45,

I totally agree, I saw them on at Vegas in August and they played Take the Time and James totally nailed that high note when he says "its time for a change!". He hasn't been able to do that since the album. James voice is back baby!

  • Hell yes James is back!

  • that makes two of us

I beleive you will agree it was an excellent show

  • @MetalMassacre45 I liked him before this period. Although he had some of his trips, he was better, damn it... (I know about the two voice accidents he had)

  • @MetalMassacre45 yep

may have taken almost 15 years but labrie's a beast again

  • Jordans hands are spiders!

  • not just spiders, but spiders on speed at 32x fast forward

  • 1:17...jordan is god

  • He may be quiet and often is criticized, but man you gotta respect MYung as a bassist

  • thats not true.. he is the coolest lol.. labrie is the most critizied

  • In prog rock, no one ever likes the singer. Geddy Lee was dissed as a singer many a time, but as a bassist no one ever dissed him.

  • Goddammit, Drummerrman......goddammit...

  • what?

  • ????????????????????????

  • in the first time i've seen 1:17.,

i thought LaBrie was playin' the keyboards.lol

  • WTF is this keyboard part ! Dream Theater rox!!

  • 1:27 to 1:41 very cool guitar riff

  • That bass solo is perfekt! Dream Theater is the best group on the world.

  • course...it's so hard to play that turns ridiculous..but..that's because we're talking about the best band on the planet.

  • 1:17 Jordan ROCKS MAN!!!

  • i know what you mean his right hand looks like a spider lol

  • dude if there were ever a music video for this it would be John Petrucci at an altar with a shrine. And at the center, the most godly guitar ever made.John would be dressed in knights armor. When the arpeggios part started he would take the guitar go out on the balcony and start raising an undead army with his amazing guitar skills. JP would slowly ascend from the balcony during the arpeggios part and the sky would turn purple and it would just be so badass.btw it would be set in mideval times

  • oh yeah and the rest of the video would be the band conquering the world...

  • big imagination dude (y)

  • Sarcastic response taken?

  • HAHAHAHA made my day.

  • Why would that be the music video? It has nothing to do with the song at al.

    Absolutely nothing.

    Nothing at all.

  • amazing song

  • this song is so hard to play it's ridiculous

  • yeah but we're gonna cover it anyways

  • a want to have a dream theater cover band too. :( would be too beautiful..

  • Is it just me or was that like a conversation with yourself?

"This song's so hard!" "Yeah, but we're covering it anyway." "Okay then."

  • They're great but this video itself didn't gie itself much insight. Good to see some footaeg from some actual recording sessions though :)

  • it isnt always like that..JP creates most of the stuff.

  • especially from 1.55, if they had kept the "hall effect" it would be better. listen to the fifth note of that riff / melody how beaautiful it sounds at the end..

  • awesome

  • yeah! the intro is awesome! by the way.. it's not a riff.. it's a melody! bue who cares! it's just incredible!

  • yes but i want to know who of them 5 had the idea for that riff, but i guess JM was.

  • intro song is "The Glass Prison" from the album "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence"

  • does anybody knows, who had the idea of that intro riff? just the most incredible one.

  • probably the bass player...

  • Just awesome!

  • The opening bass riff is just divine. Imagine Myung turning up saying 'yeah, I came up with this last night'

  • Greatest song EVER!

  • The Keyboard Wizard!!!

  • cazzetta667 you are a totally fuckn idiot, dick head , LOSER

  • how stupid can you be believing these kind of sht??? stop polluting youtube

  • The love of my life died on 911.

  • seriouslt why do people belive in that crap?

  • SWEET!

  • great vid but i'm really dissappointed they didn't show Petrucci alternate picking the arpeggios

  • we get to see jordan play his crazy part, but not petrucci, in what has to be the most amazing alternate picking guitar solo ever.

  • look at jordan rudess' hands going hes fuckin amazing

  • hmm this song may be called metal, but progressive too... i think this is the most progresive album of dream theater... simply awesome!! XD

  • Next to Awake.

  • yeah, it is brutal fucking heavy metal.

  • i think TGP falls more into the category of progressive metal. It's brutal. One of the very few songs that actually makes me feel almost physically beaten after listening to it.

  • The ending minute always gives me chills...

  • The best hard-rock-progressive song ever!!!

  • pretty sweet

  • Thanks, awesome!
