@Nebulisation Oh my God! After reviewing the movie for the 2nd time I got the ending!! It was amazing (I could finally see the whole movie in my computer. At first I couldn't see the images but now it works!).
@MenschOhneBeziehung I may be able to explain this monolith was sent by the aliens to accelrate mans technology (over 3 millon years) eventually leading him to Jupiter. The Aliens aged Dave so he would die. At the last moments of his life the aliens took Dave and recreated him as new higher being (i think) to test their limits of creating life. So human evolution has been one BIG experiment for aliens amusement. the decor resembles the renassiance (or rebirth) so symbolic purely.
This is the greatest of the 6 parts and I loved the pod travelling reedits which make sense, the editing of the man shuddering, all of these new edits add a new layer to the film. Pink Floyd music is so good I am annoyed that it wasnt in the actual film as its way better than that drone in original.... good job anyway.
so, he starts off seeing massive light stuff, then he has a spas for some reason, back to massive lights, then old man, next hes a really old man, then he is a space fetous, and finally, he nods at the guy in JAWS... i wanna touch the monolith:)
It's definitely not as mindmelting as the original, which just bombards you with incredible visions (although it disappoints with the colorized landscapes), but it gets the point across. Of course, 2001 is more about the experience than the story, but maybe this'll get others to watch the full version. It's really good on Blu-ray now, but I hope that I'll get a chance to watch it on 70mm someday.
The editing itself was very well-done, especially the syncing of the visuals to the music. Kudos.
I totally agree with you OmniSlashNeo! I rented this film after hearing about it for decades and the people I watched it with could not sit still. I am unplugged from the matrix and I come from a place that no longer exists in this current construct of modern times. Back then we did not have cell phones in hand at birth, laptop or stationary computers in 1/4 of the homes, and there was NO Internet available for normal folk. Therefore I watched the entire 2 hours and 20 minutes without flinching
There was so much editing I did not know what the fuck was going on.
