hmm... sounds like it's running fine to me, in fact it sounds like it's running perfectly and spinning like a top, beside the fact that rotary engines as stated already, don't have con rods, timing chain or anything like that. It's is impossible for it to have a rod knock... sorry. But hey look on the bright side, you don't have to worry about having the engine replaced.
1 i didnt hear knocking 2 its a rotary no rods no cams no metal timing chain or valves so im very confused on what your talking about knocking on an rx8...if anything its your heat shield cover rattling cause its rusting away but the rx8 is too new for that
Knocking in the rotary is most common from rough rotor tips or the rotor shaft warping, usually due to the owner never keeping up with topping the oil levels
@wolf1010 You lean out the mix of fuel and it pre-ignites ,just like in any other engine. Just so happens that when it goes on in a rotary, it doesn't just make a horrible ping, it throws your apex seals out the exhaust and you need a rebuild.
@wolf1010 No it's exactly the same thing. It's just that because the rotary's engine mechanicals are different, there's a different effect (ie. It won't melt pistons because there are no pistons to melt, etc)
you my friend are a tool. yes i know what a rotary engine is and how they work... i own an 09 rx8 and have been around rotaries all my life and if you didnt notice theres an (lol) at the end of my comment above hinting i was joking
yea probaly flooded like SMGslim said,if the car is left for a period of time without drivin,i think next time u get in u have to rev for half a minute or so b4 drivin off...i think this helps.
lol woooow, what were u, a janitor at a mazda dealership?? lol wow, i didnt think anyone was really that stupid lol....rotary engine, keyword..."ROTOR"!! lol dang ur an idiot lol if it was a piston engine, it wouldnt be called, rotary engine lol. the RX8 uses 2 rotors that spin around a shaft similar to a crankshaft in a piston engine
mannn i worl in mazda, and im telling you now. i had to strip the engine down like last week, and im pretty sure i didn't see no fucking pistons you dumb shit. haha. considering i had to replace the rotors? haha.
can't hear it which is a good thing. Rotary engines are a little harder to diagnose but knocking could be anything. Check o2 sensors, and see how it idles. Try to find out which side the knocking is coming on and see if it is rhythmic with the rpm's
haha cant really hear it but...yea hope u have fun with ur torqeless wonder :] only kidding man its prolly a bad o2 sensor or temp gauge ...i deffenantly think its a sensor of some sort, doubt that ur engine needs a rebuild. good luk with that...
pistons next to the air filter? haha what the hell are you talking about? WHY would a rotary engine have pistons? the whole point is to make an alternative to the piston engine...and umm a rotary with 230000 miles and no rebuild runing better than new? haha how can a car get faster with higher miles? :p retarded comments!
man this shits pretty funny. i guess no one else has a sense of humor on here. this guy knows better, hes just making a joke. its brimming with sarcasm. funny stuff.
actually the new rotary engines used arent as high maintenance as people think compared to the old rotary engines, and in a rotary engine theres only 3 or so main moving parts vs about 40 or more for your average smaller piston engine. fewer parts = less that can break. its smoother by design and if you take care of it just like any other engine theyll last a LONG time.
well idk but my teacher is a rx7/rotary engine freak and he was telling us that the seals in each corner of the rotor have to be replaced every so many miles. epecially when shuting them off, he and a few people tha i know, instaled a swich to kill the fuel pump so that there was no problem when starting due to fuel acomulation. sweet engines though.
all depends on climate; for instance my scout did fine in the dryer elements of fort worth, texas. as soon as I brought it to cc, tx (humidity and salidity normally at extremes) main seal and head gaskets blew...
ever heard of pinging......are you using premium gas?? if not you should......and how many miles if you got over 30k get new plugs.....you should now what your getting into next time you buy a car...
just sayin all of the rx series cars have rotay engine which have no pistons or rods or cams or lifters or anythin of the sort in case you didnt know

Sounds like you got a rod knock and need a new canooter valve. Might as well replace the flux capacitor while you have the block torn apart.

RX8's cannot knock. A rotary can't knock in fact? Add some oil, rotary's are designed to burn it
812Mizata 1 year ago
@812Mizata they can make a knocking noise if there is play with the rotors due to starving it of oil and wearing away the rotor housing
crazy8sx08 11 months ago
@crazy8sx08
I think it sounds more like a harsh rubbing noise. I know what you're talking about
812Mizata 11 months ago
@812Mizata yes it is more of a harsh rubbing but to the average joe who doesnt even know what a rotary engine looks like it could be mistaken

@Nateb123 So the classic term "knocking" doesn't quite fit but same concept. Makes sense =]

@wolf1010 No it's exactly the same thing. It's just that because the rotary's engine mechanicals are different, there's a different effect (ie. It won't melt pistons because there are no pistons to melt, etc)
Nateb123 1 year ago
@Nateb123 apex seals don't go out the exhaust on a renesis because of the side ports... the stay in the housing and gouge the shit out of it

mine used to do that all the time. no big deal. just a rough idle, normal for a early year rx8 to have a idle like that

Sounds like engine flood to me actually, I can't be a 100% certain cause the sound quality isn't great here.
However if it is flooded, there's a lever underneath the dash of the driver side, if you can't find it, its in your owners manual.
