Nobuo Uematsu used similar synthesizers for the OST in FFXIV.

Search "Desert Moon Defied" and listen to the synthesizers there compared to this. They sound almost exactly the same.

@jmw10891 Yes! I think this was Nobuo's subtle way of letting everyone know that FF had gone back to it's roots with IX. This game is CRIMINALLY underrated. I honestly think that FFIX is my all time favorite. It gets a bum fucking wrap, but God damn is it good.

While FFVII is my all-time favorite Final Fantasy, I've been playing all the older ones. It might be with the aftertaste of VIII lingering like a disease (didn't care for that one too much), but IX is becoming a very close second! I like the characters, the music is awesome, and the battle system brings me back to my FF roots. It's a shame not a lot of people like it though, compared to the rest of the FF fandom.

@Worenx I think the reason is because, just like you and I, FFVIII left a bad taste in our mouths and totally jaded the fanbase. FFIX doesn't have the whiny, angsty protagonist, every character is useful and each have a unique back story, each one is integral to the overall story, and so much more. I just love that Zidane is an upbeat and happy thief, unless Squall who was so angst-ridden that he couldn't interpret Quistis' advances on him. Hahaha

Haha, yes, you hit the nail on the proverbial head there. Hell, I'd be all over Quistis if she gave me that much leeway! xD Zidane is a nice change from Cloud too, but Cloud was more likable than Squall, even when he was brooding. Zidane and Steiner always make me laugh.

@Worenx I have to agree with you, I skipped VIII and just went straight to IX because my brother rented it once and it froze and then we bought it, and I was so into it, after VII I fell in-love with IX also if you are going to reply, use @XvKarnagevX I am currently on my friends account and I can't sign out

@jmw10891 FF 1 through 6 all had that opening. 7 is where it stopped. 9 picked it up again to better fit the game's theme of returning to the series' roots.
