I know this post is LATER than LATE, but my brother has a deeper fear than you, he won't even go near the hospital. My mother was DYING, and he could not go. It just was not happening, and my mother knew he would not come too. What makes his fear even more strange is that my father died 3 weeks earlier, my mother died 3 weeks after my Dad, you would think he would have went regardless. I have seen him try to go, he literally gets sick and just I can't describe it. So you do have company.
Awe. I hate hospitals too. I've had 6 surgeries since I was 5 years old and I just HATE the hospitals. The smell of them .. the cold feeling of them.. the long time in there.. the doctors.. the sick ppl with their germs.. not to mention.. I am soooo scared of elevators.. like no joke. I HATE elevators.
Fellow Love Muffins I wish I knew something that could put you at ease with hospitals, but I cannot think of anything at all 'cause I have myself experience death at hospitals. But I feel that medical is indeed my calling. I want everyone to feel opened to use what is available to them. My heart as a future intern go out to people that have anxiety in the medical care setting. Please we don't know everything, but I do feel that my colleagues have your best interest first and foremost.
Youre not alone. Every since my Mother passed away in the emergency room three years ago I can barely pass by the hospital without all of the memories coming back. Its weird because I thought that I would be over just goin into a hospital without havin a panic attacki and breakin down. But hopefully time heals

i used to be deathly afraid of hospitals drs n needles. i was a very sick child n went thru much testin n things n they would tell my fam they didnt kn ow n would have to do more id cry everytime i was even told i had to go to the drs office. i was then diagnosed with a rare type of the blood disease sickle cell anemia which requires hospitalizations docs needles etc every few weeks. i sorta got over the fear but its been replaced wit a new one of livin wit a chronic illness/ bein sick help ne1?

I know how ya feel, since i saw my sister die in the hospital emergency room i cant go in a hospital (eventhough im pregnant and will eventually have to go in the one my sister died in) I cant watch a medical show where people flat line, cant see an ambulance without getting teary eyed and etc.

I do.. Everytime i need to go they run a heart scan on me because they think theres something wrong as my beat is REALLY high..then i have to pay the bill! but the reason my heart rate is high is cus when i step in the hospital i am overcome with fear and it just beats fast. But after having an emergency and having to stay there for a week, they rly do genuinely want you to get better, theyre great people. But its still just a scary place associated with bad memories :(
So even though I hate hospitals I'll just have to deal with it because sickle cell is serious and you're constantly in the hospital for it. My grandmother also recently had a heart attack and I had to be in the hospital with her. It was sooo hard, she just got worse and worse. I couldn't take it anymore so I just went home and stayed at home by myself until she was better. It was very hard but sometimes I just have to deal with it. People get sick sometime
I kind of don't like hospitals because when my family was in Memphis, my baby brother (2 months old at the time) got severe brain damage and the hospital tried to hide it from my mother. 6 months later we moved back to Michigan and we thought he would get better treatment but we were wrong. Even though it was hard seeing him die, I went to the hospital every single day, until about 2 days before he died. I still have be at hospitals though because I have an older brother with sickle cell disease

Im sorry about your sister. I am so afraid of hospitals that i have panic attacks. My sister and my mom love the show House and I can't even be in the same room when they watch it. It's sad. I hope that your friend gets better.
omg so am i! since my grandfather dies when i was 4 i have never liked hospitals because they remind me of death and disease. i am also a germaphobe and feel absolutely gross when in a hospital but sometimes i really suck it up if a close friend or family member is in the hospital like when my best friend was in there last yr with dengue fever i was there all night and day with him tho i was sick to my stomach! good vibes at cha when next u have to b there B! xoxo
my friend hates the hospital and checmical smell which is lingering in the wards and the hospital itself. i asked her why, because she said many yrs ago when she was 9, i think. her uncle passed away, doctor didnt know why he passed away, till now they still do not have any idea why he passed away. for that she hated hospitals. so b! ure not alone. :D

Maybe you're scared of hospitals because of the atmosphere. Hospitals are full of sick people and it looks pretty depressing. But when you're there to visit a friend or family member, just concentrate on that rather than the atmosphere. I don't have a problem with hospitals but I know some people who are just like you and I think it's because of the atmosphere.

I used to help in a morgue and I have worked in hospitals for 15 years. But I went & did it and told them I don't know what to say or do, I feel so bad...& I almost passed out, but I let people know how I felt. I was 25 then. You can do it. The more you do something, even uncomfortable things, the less it can overwhealm you. Face Ur fears.

I was in the room when my great grandfather AND when my grandmother passed away and since then you will NOT find me anywhere near a hospital unless I'm the one being carted in. And even then I'm not too comfortable with it. I swear I have bad hospital luck and just by me being there I kill people. Hell no, won't find me near one.

Haha I'm a total germaphobe too! I was diagnosed with mild OCD in 05' & I've been going to therapy for it since. It ruins my life, but I've been getting better. OMG. I guess having parents in the medical field forced me to be in hospitals more often than most folks, so I don't have a problem with them. However, I know many people who can't stand them for the smell or old memories. I hope ur friend is better by now B Scott!
I'm praying for your friend and sending positive energy their way. I'm an RN and work in a hospital, but I can totally understand people who have anxiety about the hospital. It's totally understandable for people to be anxious, because for many hospitals are the place where some people have some of the hardest times in their lives. So sorry this is the case with you B.

I agree.. the only way I can stay in the hospital is if my kids are in there... I can say God has blessed me to not have sickly children. But I totally feel you. The air in hospitals wreaks of sickness and death that you can feel once the double doors open.

I had a cousin die in '93 at fourteen and we were the same age and I had just a fear of death period and her spirit coming to talk with me and I have come a long way because I slept with my parents for the longest and now the peace of knowing death is a thing that will come and your spirit goes to a resting place is where I'm at now. hold on that fear will go away soon.

I kind of don't like hospitals because when my family was in Memphis, my baby brother (2 months old at the time) got severe brain damage and the hospital tried to hide it from my mother. 6 months later we moved back to Michigan and we thought he would get better treatment but we were wrong. Even though it was hard seeing him die, I went to the hospital every single day, until about 2 days before he died. I still have be at hospitals though because I have an older brother with sickle cell disease

omg so am i! since my grandfather dies when i was 4 i have never liked hospitals because they remind me of death and disease. i am also a germaphobe and feel absolutely gross when in a hospital but sometimes i really suck it up if a close friend or family member is in the hospital like when my best friend was in there last yr with dengue fever i was there all night and day with him tho i was sick to my stomach! good vibes at cha when next u have to b there B! xoxo

my friend hates the hospital and checmical smell which is lingering in the wards and the hospital itself. i asked her why, because she said many yrs ago when she was 9, i think. her uncle passed away, doctor didnt know why he passed away, till now they still do not have any idea why he passed away. for that she hated hospitals. so b! ure not alone. :D

Maybe you're scared of hospitals because of the atmosphere. Hospitals are full of sick people and it looks pretty depressing. But when you're there to visit a friend or family member, just concentrate on that rather than the atmosphere. I don't have a problem with hospitals but I know some people who are just like you and I think it's because of the atmosphere.

Sorry, but that's a cop out. You Can go sit with him if it's for him and not you. When my best friend died I was terrified of seeing his family and his body. I used to help in a morgue and I have worked in hospitals for 15 years. But I went & did it and told them I don't know what to say or do, I feel so bad...& I almost passed out, but I let people know how I felt. I was 25 then. You can do it. The more you do something, even uncomfortable things, the less it can overwhealm you. Face Ur fears.

Disinfectant is my bestest friend, I even have the spray for my room and car. My bf thinks I'm nuts sometimes, but I cant help it! Argh.
As for hospitals, I dont have a phobia of it, but I hate going because doctors never tell you nothin! And when they do, they always end it with "if it doesnt get better, come back" UH NO!

Yes B.Scott i truly feel u about hospitals and i feel like that because i have been in the hospital alot and had surgerys and had to stay for weeks etc. It is the worse feeling to be sick and away from ur family and friends.
