Right. What Derren leaves out but you may very well know, is that the experiment was done by psycho-sociologists throughout the following decade (with the same Coke and sometimes popcorn theme) and they concluded that subjects show little or no particular interest in coke and popcorn. Now that shouldn't stop you from believing that subliminal advertising works. If you want to believe, just believe and pay no attention to scientific evidence. True believers don't require proof.
If i would have been there i would have probably forgotten the film too, because i would have been making out and touching my girlfriend during the entire movie...:P

I am currently half way through the book, but it is common knowledge anyway that lack of eye contact tends to mean the person is not being as truthful as they could be.
which is why people keep eye contact when they are lying because its common knowlage (exept its not anymore thanks to this) you naturally look around a room that you are in. somebody talking to me who was keeping eye contact would worry me more than somebody not doing it. maybe in a 1 on 1 interview it might be like how you said but generally not in real life
"somebody talking to me who was keeping eye contact would worry me more than somebody not doing it"
Pardon me for saying this, but that seems like a very peculiar outlook. Do you not feel uncomfortable when a person cannot even once look you in the eye?
Anyway, in relation to the video above, I think it's pretty obvious the guy is lying. As well as completely avoiding eye contact (he's deliberately looking everywhere, except at the interviewer/camera) there is no real conviction in his voice.
yes it would worry me more. i wold expect them to look at me once but what im saying is that if they were constantly look at me i would feel weird. by not keeping eye contact i mean like glancing away a bit. while it is obvious that he is lying you would be supised how little it would change your mind if he kept eye contact. hes even shaking his head when he does it. also more evidence he lying: its derren frickin brown and no offence to him he doesnt like like somebody special plus he also
the man in the video and sorry about that i was rushng. basically im saying that constant eye contact would make me think they were lying. sorry again, im not used to talking to smart people on youtube.
I understand that if they were trying to psyche you out by staring at you without even a single, hesitant glance away or not blinking then that could be deemed as someone untrustworthy. I think you were saying that if they glance away occasionally then they can be seen to be more trustworthy? If so, I agree with you in that sense.
pretty much (i have problems getting my point across because im only 15 and in my school it is a lot "simpler" to explain things to the mindless sheep.) but you notice that when you remember something even if you are talking somebody your eyes might drift off into a different direction (page 183 of "Derren Brown, Tricks of the Mind" just after the pictures) just try it now. if nothing happenes then im sorry for wasting your time. but yes that i what i was trying to say
Ah, the subtle eye movements. I read that on the bus yesterday.. You have a good point and I'd say in a normal case that that would probably be true, but the guy in the video turns his eyes away quite deliberately if you ask me. Obviously, we don't have to agree, but I see what you're saying and understand it.
Lack of eye contact as a supposed 'lying tell' is definitely a misconception.
Derren says himself, identifying lying is challenging, at times a 50% success rate. However, in order to spot clues, you have to identify a subject's normal state and then compare it with something that may sound like a lie.
For instance, maybe their shoulders don't look completely correct.
To reiterate, I think the man on the video who says he can remember the whole film is lying because he looks extremely uncomfortable to be asked and lacks conviction in his voice. I'm not convinced he's telling the truth at all and if anyone disagrees with me, so be it.
I think it's more the fact that when the guy is asked what genre he likes he answers by saying he likes foreign film, which isn't really a genre as you can have foreign films that romance, action, thriller etc.
I enjoy foreign films, but have to admit this guy does seem pretty pretentious and desperate to make sure everybody know that he doesn't usually watch hollywood movies like oceans 12 when there's not even anything wrong with it!
I think when considered with the scope of hollywood films, foreign films do count as a "Genre". Obviously this an incorrect classing, but it makes sense to talk about them that way (assuming you do acknowledge that they fall under many other actual genres).
lol, I think I'd be embarassed too! She probably thought they were asking for her opinion on the film for an advert for the film on TV, and was worried she'd look like an idiot lol.
well your wrong on that part many people such as myself enjoy foreign films why does that make you pretetious because we want to see different types of cinema and film just because i don't want to see Vin Diesel blow a guys head off every 2 minutes dosn't make me pretentious
I enjoy many films that happen to be in foreign language...and for your information as was said above there are equal amounts of action, romance, sci-fi, war, horror etc etc within hollywood films and films from other countries...the fact you had to point out how wonderfully intelligent you are because you don't like vin diesel shows you are equally as pretentious and deluded as the douche in the video..citizen kane is actually english language you know! as is the godfather, blade runner & pi!

People go to the movies all the time and don't remember half the shit they watch, what makes you think they're going to remember a bunch of weird images that don't make any sense? The sound effects also have a lot to do with the hypnosis.
There's a million different images in the 'advert'... all symbolic of forgetting... see the girl at the end how all she could remember when she tried to think of a scene was a sieve? Well there was a sieve in the ad. There was also a drain, the washing of the sea, an old person, a confused person who couldn't remember, locked doors... remember the guy who said he had a 'block' but didn't know why?

Well, I'm a girl actually lol... but still, I don't think it's right. The mind is a delicate thing.

People go to the movies all the time and don't remember half the shit they watch, what makes you think they're going to remember a bunch of weird images that don't make any sense? The sound effects also have a lot to do with the hypnosis.

0:22 'forget the film'. Clever man, though I would want a refund!

That story in the begining about the popcorn and drink is known to be bullshit (FACT).
People seem to forget Darren is a magician and he's also fooling the people at home
