  • bro your set up must of cost a fortune!

  • @reschla It was expensive, but I just collected everything one piece at a time over a few years. Now I'm set for years without having to worry about making another purchase. I'm getting married next year, so I couldn't buy stuff even if I wanted to! Doh!

  • You're not a real DJ cause you dissed the phaser effect. Any real DJ knows

that phaser is the foundation upon which any musician truly thrives. So in

    yo phase sucka!

  • @sungwei9 Dont forget the flanger. Nothing quite masks a shite mix (and a shite Dj) like flanger.

  • can i connect the CDJ 2000 to my laptop to work as a individual player with Seratro SL3

  • @2008skywalker Yes you can. You can make one deck play two tracks. You need to enable "instant doubles" in serato to do so...

  • What do you think of the DJM-2000s built in MIDI?

  • @christophergotti The built in MIDI is neat, but doesn't work in Serato yet. There is a newer version coming in the next couple of months that will allow full control of Serato using HID mode on the decks. This is currently available with Traktor.

  • @christophergotti Oops...scratchtha last comment. Just realized that you were talking about the DJM. To be honest, I haven't read up on the New djm yet. I'm an Allen and Heath guy!

  • @djaoki Yeah I was scratching my head for a minute there, cuz we had this CDJ conversation before... Definately take a look the the new DJM, I like the frequency faders and MIDI controls. Hopefully by the time its released in June we will have Native support with Serato\Ableton!!

  • I've been contemplating a midi controller and originally was going for a Akai LPD8 for looping / hot cue functions but the bridge seems great for firing clips from sample packs etc within live for live remixing.

The Akai APC20 & 40 seem the best for that but from a price POV the LPD8 is 45-GBP and the APC40-20 are 170-350GBP. A big price jump...

  • Do your research because a big price jump sometimes is worth it. As software incrementally grows in capability, you want a controller that can not only handle the current abilities of your software, but will meet future demands as well. Nothing is worse than buying something and then realizing it's obsolete in a few months.

  • Totally agree !

I'll be making my SL3 purchase in the next two weeks along with a midi controller for abelton/loops/cues and tbh the APC40 will be perfect. It's just giving over £900 in one go will be the problem.

  • The APC40 definitely looks like it's made to integrate perfectly with Ableton. £900 is quite a bit to drop in one sitting, but I know you'll be happy! Just make sure that you don't need a soundcard to make everything work together. Stay in touch once you get it setup so we can bounce some ideas off eachother!

  • @djaoki

Yeah will do, already subscribed to your channel and added you as a friend.

I haven't got any videos on atm so considering doing an unboxing of the SL3 & LPD8 with future videos of mapping etc.

  • @StephenPayneMusic Thanks! An SL-3 and LPD8 unboxing would be sick! I'd love to see it.

  • hey also check out the "ur cdj pics" thread in the in the pioneer dj forum and look for j.wong's post and mine.... hes got a pretty cool setup... oh i'm djcode:e in there)

  • I saw your setup. It's absolutely ridiculous! You have scaffolding and stuff that would rock a large club...plus lots o' toys! Nice!

  • con't...

so if i do move to serato, I plan to buy SL3 (only cause i want the 3rd output) then i want to dicth that VDJ sample bank and use ableton and the bridge in serato..going to program the mpd 32 the same way but i then plan to buy a novation launch pad for activation all my clips... I have the xone92 also. i will run the ableton channel out SL3's 3rd output (i hope) and prob put it in on of the mic/line ch on the 92... i'm on the pioneer forum at Code:E.

  • Nice, a fellow Xone:92 owner! Not a bad idea running Ableton on the 3rd channel. Don't forget that you have 4 total channels to work with, so you should be able to run 2 serato decks and 2 Ableton channels! Combined with the Novation, that is a sick setup.

  • midi controllers....

i was looking at a 2d also but i bought an akai mpd32 i use the pad backs for loops, hot cues and activating things like effects and and the auto video fade... Now i dont use serato though... i'm a VDJ user and and that controller works great for it. also in VDJ theres a sample bank that (if you set it up right) will time stretch one off samples and loops. so on the mpd32 i use the 8 faders at the top to control the sample bank. I'm thinking of moving over to serato also.

  • @clanoue1167 Time stretch is such a sick effect! I am in the process of mapping out my Xone:2D to work both Ableton and Serato. Mapping is truly an art to ensure the balance of function and easy. You setup sounds sick....In regards to looping, I use one of my sliders to chop the beat count on loops on the fly. It's a good way to stutter your mix live with ease.

  • You know with all these different controllers coming out. I think that the 2d or 3d would be more that sufficient for a one console fits all unit. With all of this software/hardware integration - and having a midi controller available. When it seems that can do everything for you - why bother getting a CDJ? Can it really do things a xone controller can't? The CDJ's just look nicer. But one way or another - you are still looking at an LCD display with a counter and wav form right?

  • I like having the manual control of a cdj or turntable. I would never let the computer do the beatmatching for me. I feel that beatmatching and manual control is a part of mixing that gets lost when anyone goes completely digital and uses solely music software.

  • Yes. The only thing that everyone is waiting for is Native HID support from Serato. HID is similar to MIDI except it's a smarter 2-way exchange between your decks and laptop. This is expected to be released around April. Keep an eye on the Serato website for an update. The nice thing is that in HID mode, you will us the loop, loop cutter, finger search, and jog dial to control Serato. Search "Pioneer Nerve Centre" on youtube for a vid showing what it looks like when it works.

  • looks like serato is feeling the pressure from rekordbox... lol

  • One trend I'm noticing is that there are a lot of collab projects between all of these companies...ie: Serato/Ableton, Traktor/Pio. In the end, to be sucessful, these companies need to figure out a way to work together and clearly define their roles in the digi-dj revolution.

  • Is the 2.0 gonna be compatible with the cdj2000 cause i use serato sl3 with my cdj but i cant use my loop cutter or my finger search, and all loops and hot cues have to be used on the computer. gets annoying, any help?

  • Can't wait for the Bridge. I know alot of ppl out there use Logic, but Serato and Ableton teaming up will close the gap I think. Personally as far as MIDI goes, I'm just gonna invest in the Rane 68 and see how that pans out... but I prefer a cleaner set up. I have used the LaunchPad aswell as the Axiom keyboards... but wasn't too big a fan. Haha, you and your Allen & Heath. Loyalty at its best.

  • Yeah. That's the downside of an external controllers. It requires a lot of programming and the controls don't always work exactly the way they're supposed to. I know the Rane 68 is designed Specifically to control Serato and is a much cleaner setup. My setup will have too many "doo-dads" hanging from it. Loyalty has it's price!
