And lastly, one size doesn't fit all. Just bcoz there a 1000 programmers out there doens't mean that they are qualified for say 100 scientific programming jobs in US. Scientific programmming jobs require some domain specific skills and a real 4 year degree in a real university, not some 2 to 3 year tech. institute degree.

There is no shortage of American workers. They're be layed off or fired and replaced with lower cost foreigners. There is no short term need except for the need to lower the labor costs.

The demand for software engineering courses in the US has shrunk to a fraction of what it was only a few years ago. This is because there are no jobs to speak of in software engineering for Americans. There goes America's technology leadership in software.
