  • Good way to explain it :)

  • Yes, I suppose it is often a derogatory term used by non-Theravadan Buddhists. The term "Lesser Wheel" is an old term that emerges from early within the split in Buddhism - with the rise of the Mahasangikhas, the immediate intellectual & spiritual predecessors of the Mahayana movements. When it arose it wasn't necessarily applied in a derogatory the way it is now. And, it was used as a way to identify the (now extinct) 18 branches of early Abhidhamma Buddhism (e.g. Lokottaravadins, Andhakas,et)

  • Isn't the "lesser wheel" just a term that people of mahayana practice use to refer to theravada as?
