In those days of Joan Crawford and Bette Davis, usually the Hollywood Moguls way of thinking was( once an actress no matter how good that she looks) hits the age of 40+, the actresses were all washed up. Done for good. How shitty is that?!!
For what it is worth, Bette Davies ( who I adore), had stated that Joan probably was the way Christina said she was in her book, because of all the terrible stress she was under back then. Specifically, she had gone through another divorce and her affair ended too. MGM fired Joan as she was box office poison. She begged for Mildred Pierce, got it and won the Oscar for it. It was Joan's swan song. After that, Joan was placed in all sorts of crap movies that did not do her talents justice.

I agree with you. How the hell would ANY of us know. And also, parents came be rotten to one kid and adorable to another. Either way, 'no smoke without fire', and I think that there was 'something there'; if there wasn't, how come both Christina AND Chrisopher were cut out of Joan's will. Just a thought. My point was that I think that many children who have had difficult children exaggerate things in their minds as the years go by, and end up truly believing things were the way they were; they're not intentionally making things up, but the memory (especially bad memories) have a tendency to seem worse as the years go by. I quite liked this; highly unusual and unexpected. It captures the pain of a troubled parent/child relationship -- the parent as God and the child as martyr. Oddly enough, the title really works. Based on it, I chose this clip expecting something silly, campy, and maybe amusing. I didn't expect something approaching art. Well done and spot on!
As for the "what the hell" comment... What the hell may be exactly the right response. It's obviously not a commercial endevour. It's an art film. Art is often supposed to make you say, "What the hell was that about". To make you think, examine the artist's intention and how that relates to you. Mindless films are great, I love them, but there is certainly a place for films that make you go "huh".
YouTube has half a billion downloads a day.... If you're not into this video then stream something else. Check out the top downloads. You will probably find something there more comprehensible. But there is no need to denigrate other peoples work just because you don't understand it or don't care for it. Especially work as charming and unusual as this.
