  • NOW AS A KIWI WHY THE HELL DID THIS NOT SHOW ON THE CHEERS TO 50 YEARS OF NZ TV WAKE UP TVNZ

  • Thank you very much to Jimmy Kimmel for his kind donation ... of this video to America!

  • @APMarcello3 Seconded.

  • the beginning of the video is disgusting as well no sense of morality.

  • Omg I had forgotten about the telefon..remember when the fire engines used to drive up your street with the sirens going and youd run outside and put money in their hat?I wouldve been about 8 years old...lol.and stay up all night watching and it was cool cause then we acted exhausted on the sunday morning and didnt have to go to church but sparked up when it was too late to go to church..funny thing was our family werent exactly rolling in the money but we always gave..

  • Ahhh! The New Zealand I knew as as a kid. When you jumped on ya pushbike [no helmet ] went to the shop bought the old man some smokes then got a boot up the arse when ya got home coz ya spent the change buying double happys[fireworks]. All of the above nowadays are totally ILLEGAL! P was somethin ya did when ya drank too much L&Por ya ate with ya chops, and didnt cost ya a term in jail. The net was somethin ya caught fish in. If ya used a cell phone it's coz you were in jail.......!

  • If you r 37 that meant you were only 4 in that year. You have a good memory. I dint realise they had that kind of marathon in the 70s it seemed more advanced than UK where I lived.

  • Yeah basically I was speaking in terms or era not nessecarily exact year. maybe I was meaning a little later. I was just trying to show how politically correct New Zealand has become and how life was simpler and different concerning issues technology etc

  • Its a wonderful country I visited it in 1979 when I was still 16 with my family I really hope to visit it again in the future. The atomosphere and environment is so plesant compared to the UK. The people there are also so friendly.

  • It stil is a great country but is a lot different to 1979. It seems to have become much more violent since those days as there is helluva lot aof violent crime and murders goin on. Not quite the safe friendly place it used to be, perhaps that's just the way of the world,

  • But Im sure its not as bad as UK where crime tends to be so high at present. But as you say its how the world is now its probably to do with stress and boredom especially people who r unemployed. thanks for your generous reply

  • Thought I would repsond to your comment. You are correct. New Zealand has some terrible stastics in relation to Murder, Rape, Domestic Violence per capita in comparrison to the rest of the World, In fact I read that the only country that beat N.Z (that wasn't engaged in Civil war) for the most violent crime was South Africa. With that said I will add: In Australia when a woman phones the Police for a domestic. The Police show up, give the victim a lecture on how it was her fault, then leave.

  • Not any more. The Muslims have taken over. Just like they have everywhere else.

  • Not all Muslims are bad they just get a bad name beca;use some are classed as terrorists. Im not like them nor are my family and close friends we are from a very peacefull community. We dont like what the so called Muslims are doing no one in Islam are allowed to create war and distress to anyonne.

  • Ahem. I dislike Muslims because of the way they treat WOMEN. Terrorsism is another debate. Any religion that comprimises a person because of their gender, is NASTY. Muslims do NOT belong in NEW ZEALAND. Kiwis respect women MORE. Kick all these misogynists back into the bloody stone age, and keep them away from NEW ZEALAND WOMEN>

  • well thats your problems not all women in Islam are treated badly maybe some. Bt where I come from we are treated fairly if not then there is a problem with the male partener or his family. Usually marriage is suceesful in Islam You only come accross Islam as a terrornising faith which is far from the truth. But if you dont agree then its your problem.

  • What a crock of shit. Go and spout your misognistic rubbish to someone who has no clue. Over 50,000 Females are terminated every year in Muslim Countries through the "Honour killing" system. In Pakistan if a Muslim Man murders his baby daughter, it only costs him 5 Rupees to make the Police dissappear. I'm glad you posted on this page. Cause Kiwis hate MISOGYNISTS and the more they know about this "Distateful" woman hating religion, the quicker you lot will get the ARSE from NEW ZEALAND.

  • if you want to believe like that then dont say anymore please it hurts us OK. Please keep your opinions to yourself. You soon come to know what the truth is if not in this life but in the hereafter. But please leave us alone in the meantime. and I wont say no more and end comments.

  • Mate its the truth. You are polluting New Zealand with your NASTY religion. You invade a country that treats women with respect. New Zealand was the first country in the WORLD to give women the vote. In Muslim countries, most women don't even have that basic right. I was in Meadowbank and all I saw was a sea of females wearing FUCKING HIJABS. Take your awful religion and send it back to the dark ages where it came from. Your Religion is like a Cancer, you kill the rights of women worldwide.

  • New Zealand and Australian Consulates have been over whelmed with cries for help from Female Nationals, who have been wooed by Muslim Males and then taken back to their husbands countries of origin. Under MUSLIM LAW a Woman is the property of her husband and has no country of origin and therefore HAS NO PROTECTION FROM HER BIRTH COUNTRY. Women of New Zealand BEWARE. If you marry these CON ARTISTS, you are ON YOUR OWN. You will be beaten, raped and killed at the whim of your husband .

  • In all third world counties, there is a reason why they stay that way. They deny basic human rights to women. The right to education, the right to vote, the right to earn a living. It's all tied up with Religion/ Culture and fundamantalist Arseholes like you. I really weep for the future of OUR CULTURE when I see the likes of BASTARDS like you being allowed into our countries. You breed like rats and spread your Misogynistic hatred of Women like the Plague. GO BACK WHERE YOU CAME FROM.

  • i went on tv with the 12th hutt valley girls brigade in 1976 lol....at avalon studios....way kewl :D

  • I was born and raised in NZ in the 70s and 80s, and I begged mum to stay up all night to watch this in 76 and 80. Went to bed late and then got up early to see how the total had changed. Never went to Avalon, but knew kids that did! What a time; this is the real NZ in the 1970s. Thankyou!

  • You was very young and you have a good memory. To be 39 now you must have been under 5 at the time.

  • We were so innocent then.

  • 1976 was a good year...The Mulldoon Govt was back after a three year exodus in opposition which meant that the disaterous split of the public broadcasters was put to an end and the NZBC was put back together allbeit as the BCNZ. Hillman Hunters Still ruled the highways, manned elevators in the George Courts department store, local post offices, red telephone boxes, a national intergrated rail system......tROLLEY bUSES...tHE LIST IS ENDLESS. The past ruled.

  • that fire poi was cool i didnt even know they were doing it back then!!

  • Well it had to start somewhere. Unfortunatly during one of the most embarresing periods in NZ cultural history. I have to admit that the cramped old Shortland Street BCNZ studios were a bit of a laugh, especially for those in the Conga line.

  • The indian act was absolute crap it must of been so boring in nz back in the seventies, apart from the band split enz there was no famous kiwi in entertainment.

  • Man we used to stay up all night just to watch this, and.. because it was the ONLY thing to watch anyway.. love it, love it, thanks for the lovely memories again.

  • thanks for posting this, brings back alota good memories.

  • that trio that song was on acid for sure lol

I remember watching this when i was four about 2 am they did the train / thank you song thing and in my half awake state i thoought they turned into a dragon lol and that fire poi guy was like 30 years ahead of his time or what? awesome!!!!

  • this is so nostalgic.you would never ever see this again, people say "bring it back" I say it was the past.people are different in todays times, it just wouldn't work like we remember it.

  • Or will we?

  • We dont even own NZ anymore i dont think, 25,000 of us leave every year to Australia. We really have lost our culture and identity to money riddled ideas and now we've gained rights and benefits from our so called govt that don't mean shit.

  • God, what a different world the Muldoon years were! Members of the audience are smoking! The stage acts are about the cultures of foreign lands. As a culture I think we would be more likely to celebrate more Kiwi things nowadays.

  • wow there are some really beautiful chixx!!11

  • bring back telethon

  • I doubt they would get as much enthusiasm as they did in these days due to the revelations of how much the anchors and admin have been and are earning.

  • thank you very very much
