I wish she would have done a full out rock version like this more often at concerts!! I love this song, but the recorded version does not do it justice at all.
I was there and seen them up close. this is the 1st time iv seen these vids before. God it was a good time seeing so many good bands. the sunburn and hunger was worth it. I feel old now lol
The sound on her mic was turned down, a mechanical error, not her fault! She was doing the best that she could. You can tell that she is aware of it and she actually signals for somebody to turn her mic up. Then she just gives up near the end and walks over to the audience, smiles, and goes with the flow.
I totally agree though. They are 'background singers' NOT 'lead vocalists!!! Love, love, love, love Stevie. These are two of my FAVE Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac songs. I saw her perform in 2004 with FM on their 'Say You Will Tour' and also in 2011 on her 'In Your Dreams Tour' Two of my FAVE concerts EVER. I love her heart and her gift. If I can still sing well, when I'm her age, I will feel blessed. xx :)
The woman is FEARLESS! Just putting this out there. Having had vocal training, myself, I know that controlling your voice is difficult enough when you are highly emotional (in her case probably emotional and high!) but when you are crying your eyes and heart out, your pitch suffers. Her guts to perform thru that, holds me spellbound. It may be awkward to watch the performance when you know that she must be off her face, but she NEVER fails to give us her heart and tell us her story. Love her xx
GOD SHES BEAUTIFUL! SHE WAS JUST AS BEAUTIFUL ON TONIGHT'S SHOW THE VOICE" I loved how she directed the winner of the show how to sing her song "Landslide" the right way lolz ROCK N' ROLL QUEEN!
Stevie is sublime, high or not, BUT IT IS REALLY HARD TO SING WHEN YOU ARE CRYING... Add to that the back up vocals off, & who knows what else is going on...flying solo, so high & so low, these were the best of times & worst for her...'they're afraid I'm going to disappear into the crowd' not I think referring to the sound issues but she is just holding on, cuz the show must go on, but some songs are harder not to cry to, for the singer as well as those listening. Amazing strength.
Part way through this vid I am thinking "there is something wrong here". Then it dawns on me, she is stoned! I have watched and loved her from way back when. But even though I knew she had a coke problem at one time in her life, I never have seen it till watching this video. The amazing thing to me is that she still holds it together singing wise and musically. It was just the look of her face and her mannerisms that gave it away to me that she is stoned. I have been there, done that. Know it.

@dvw444 Have you ever toured flying solo, perform a song written from & of your soul, before thousands, without your partner - & who knows whatever else going on, obviously you want to 'show them' & even your back up vocals fail you, leave you hanging so alone... can't you see that she is crying? It is very hard to sing when you are holding back the tears... just a thought for your to consider... Stevie could sing anything stoned or no, as long as her heart wasn't sinking into the abyss/audience
It's hard to tell about the quality of the sound if you weren't actually there. This could be a recording issue. The audience may have heard it differently. Did anyone attend this performance?
who cares what the video sounds like.look who beautiful she is!i love you stevie!when angel came out i was kickin back at home on my dad's balcony in Laguna doin lines and sippin wine over lookin the ocean and i fell in love with you then and still am today! you are just as precios now as ya were then!
Either her mike is turned down or the band is playing too loud - but, this version of Angel doesn't come close to the 1980 VHS Tusk Documentary version of Angel...her back-up singers are doing the singing for her...but hey - like she says at the end of Gold Dust Woman (on the new DVD) "Take a look at me now....you can't touch me now..." She's lovely here - but the beer-bottle caps full of coke (during costume changes) were taking a toll on her. But she's always "upbeat" and LOVES her audience.
you know its not all that its craxk up to be in the big show she looks scared..she told one time that there was time she thought it was over her life. shes a great lady they say.
Nothing she ever sings, has sung, or will sing, could be undesirable! She simply is an artist, an entertainer, and just plain beautiful! I'm so grateful for all these wonderful vidoes you guys are willing to share. Thanks so very much!
stevie is a sweetheart but this was just not her night... not a good performance for her... her band is good but i think fleetwood mac brings out the best in her abilities.
Wow, this is an amazing version! Thanks for uploading this, my friend. I posted a video response of my band doing a song that I've always felt was similar to "Gypsy." I hope you like it, and I hope this song finds your well!
I adore Stevie Nicks! Going to see her with FM at the Verizon Center, would love to hear this song again. I remember thinking I would have given anything to be at the US festival but I was about 16 then and living on the east coast so it was out of the question. Thanks for posting this!
This is the first time I've seen this one. Great video...yea, Sharon and Lori are drowning her out a little bit, but she looks amazing!! Spring Tour 2009!!! Hope everyone enjoys!
hi all!! remember this was filmed at US festival... the sound won't be perfect. There was an audience of over 200,000 and no real accoustic... just an open field. the mix is just off... someone should really remix this and put it back on the market.... I almost went to this show... but I was in 7th grade and my mom wouldn't let me!
She looks so pretty... this kicked off the Wild Heart Tour right? I said before on a WH tour video that I love that ragged sound of her voice but I feel at this point her voice needed a break- she had been touring for what 10 yrs at this point? Sharon/Lori are deafening but I think they were trying to help her out. She is a trooper though for still performing the way she did especially with all that was going on personally.
Too much coke up the nose at the US Festival for her. My mom flew to CA from VA to see her perform at the US Fest and she said it was a disappointment. She's still one of my top favorite. Look forward to seeing FM in 2009:)
Not her best live version of "Gypsy", too much messing around with the melody and they all get confused near the bridge... It's nonetheless one of her best songs ever, just magnificent and heartfelt. How she performs that one and "Sara" too on the upcoming "Unleashed" Fleetwood Mac tour.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Meh, trying for that big 80's sound, shouldn't. Shows how much she really needs Lindsey live, particularily that solo at the end. And the rest of FM too.
I prefer the Fm ver but in this song there was no solo.who knows, maybe stevie was fed up w/ guitarists and had waddy on a short leash but he can play as good as linsey, just different style.the piano was trying for the basic feel of the linsey solo in gypsy.she did well in getting away from instrumentals and letting her and the backing vocalists carry the song. btw waddy appears on the "buckingham nicks" cd on a couple of songs so linsey must have some respect for him as a guitarist
the original fleetwood mac band has such a better softer feel for the music and the tone of this song...which is what makes it what it is in the first place. seems absent here
I love Stevie, and Gypsy, but Let's face it, she was never able to do the song justice(live) until '97. She was just to sentimentally attached to it, back in the day.
Greatful she was finally able to get it right. Beautiful Lady, Beautiful Song...
Check out Lori around 06:24, she's looking like she's having a ball. So much energy and fun. And Sharon by this point, was becoming a total pro. Didn't take too long either, remember how nervous she looked on the 'White Winged Dove' concert HBO showed? These girls are SUCH a huge part of Stevie-ology.
It seems Stevie was wired for sound and not in very good voice to boot ... I think Sharon was helping her get through the songs ... that's what friends are for right! LOL!
Thanks for posting. When I was 8 years old my Mom flew to California from Virginia to see Stevie at the US Festival. Growing up hearing Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks has given me an appreciation for their music. I've taken my mom numerous times to see Stevie. She still rocks.
