The name is definitely misleading and this is where the myth arises.
In fact, with an overseas "citizenship" card, you cannot even enter India unless you carry a valid foreign passport with a special "U visa" sticker in it. Still the myth lives..

Your Indian citizenship is automatically terminated the moment you get foreign citizenship. Not surrendering the Indian passport immediately is also an offence under Passports act of 1967.

The Indian government gives out these consolation documents called "Overseas citizenship cards" and on each card it says: "This does not amount to citizenship of India".. The name is definitely misleading and this is where the myth arises.

Your Indian citizenship is automatically terminated the moment you get foreign citizenship. Not surrendering the Indian passport immediately is also an offence under Passports act of 1967.
