  • Where is the scifi background from?

  • @BrickmasterTM The scifi background is a model I have of the city of Atlantis that I modeled.

  • This is SIIIICK

  • Wow... That looks like a hell of a lot of Roto work. Nice one! Looking forward to seeing the tutorial, what tracker you used, etc. Good thinking with using 3D objects to help your matte along - definitely going to be doing that from now on!

  • I dont really get the benifits but its cool :P

  • With some color correction I guess the two parts would blend perfectly,

    Looks Great

  • nice work shepperdoneill

  • what tracking software did you use? thinking about buying something soon to work with C4d ... looking for the best value ...

  • @primarymusicusa Syntheyes. Works great!

  • MORE !

  • awesome... but so much work for a few secs.

  • can you make a tutorial for someone that had no clue on what you just did?

    great job

  • @McGaat Once I get a new mic, ill be putting together a tutorial for this.

  • @ShepperdOneill and a new modeling tutorial cuz im still waiting eagerly for that :D

  • @ShepperdOneill Perfect, i can't wait

  • holy shit tutorial pls <3 can you ? :3

  • Awesome

  • @memoivoila Thanks

  • it seems like a huge effort for an O.K. result

sorry :\ but its not that great

  • @georgde13 This is the way this type of work is done. A lot of work and effort for a quick result.

A shot like this would probably be done by several guys working on different things, and the client would probably end up changing things 10 times before its finalized, ending in thousands of dollars spent on the artists.

I could have added something else to the background, but I already had the city, so why waste time trying to model something else.

  • @ShepperdOneill

it just seems like there could be an easier way to get a very similar result

  • @georgde13 I agree. It does seem like a lot of work, but in order to create a matte for the foreground, you either have to do a ton of roto, or use the alpha channel from track geometry in order to use it as a luma matte. Using the geometry was easier and quicker than trying to roto everything.

  • lol Atlantis :D Nice

  • Excellent work!

  • What was the point of creating the roof and the poles? for reflections?

  • @invisghosty Instead of rotoing out each pole and roof, I used an alpha channel from the 3D geometry as a matte (track matte). It kept me from having to roto each pole.

  • @ShepperdOneill I noticed you got rid of the buildings on the right side that were behind trees. Was dealing with the trees too much work?

  • @invisghosty The trees were giving me a little trouble, and I was getting some unwanted movement of the building. I believe me scale was off.

Im sure the tree issue could be adjusted, but to be honest I wasnt getting paid for this, and I was ready to wrap it up and call it done. lol

  • @ShepperdOneill Yeah, the scaling of the city is off, but if it were right you wouldn't notice any 3D effect. You should have added a flying jumper for the lulz <3

  • Amazing, I'd love to learn how to do this.. As I want to get into VFX and things. One question, why did you need to track and mask the WHOLE shot when you are only using a tiny part of the footage? wouldn't a key have worked easily? Anyway a tut on this would be unbelievable I hope you can do one!

  • @DigitalSystematic I tracked it because I needed to get 3D data in order to build the geometry so I could use it to help generate the alpha for the beams, etc.

Keying might have worked, but it would have taken too long to key out the sky and get the matte to look correct, not too mention I still needed a matte for the blue and red beams.

It was easier to just create the 3D geometry and use its alpha as a track matte in AE.

    Hope that made sense. :)

  • @ShepperdOneill Ah yes, I understand now... Btw what technique was used for roto on the children?

  • @DigitalSystematic On the kids I used roto. Mainly the girl on the left on the sea saw.

  • this must have been hell to do

  • I KNEW I RECOGNIZED THE MUSIC! ATLANTIS <3

May I ask... in the future, could we get a render showing off some of the true detail of this model? I noticed that in yours you had the outpost. :O

  • @bartat404 Yes, good ear! I'll see about showing it off sometime. With close to 3 million polys, it takes a while to render.

  • @ShepperdOneill I'd offer up my PC, but I don't own Cinema 4D :(

    AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Thuban 2.8GHz 6 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Six-Core Desktop Processor HDT55TFBGRBOX

    Clocked at 3.3GHz 8GB RAM

  • @bartat404 Well im currently running a dual CPU workstation (8-cores), so its not all that bad. If anything I need to invest in a small render farm, but I dont have $30,000. lol

  • @ShepperdOneill Hah. Yeah, mine fails in comparison to yours. You said Dual CPU and that made me think of this.,

    /watch?v=_0RiFSzUM-Q

  • @bartat404 Yeah, ide love to have a 12 core machine. This is what im using... /watch?v=HVh4sSyQcww&feature=channel_video_title

  • Amazing <3

  • one day i will be able to do that... one day

  • thats cool

  • awesome :D

  • jesus....
