He's still good in this one but he was brilliant in the 1983 Live performance; just take a look on the right of the page - scroll down to "Captain Nemo" live 1983. I think time had started to tell on him by this point - his great flying fingers had slowed down a little by 2000.
Michael was my favorite axeman for 26 years.Watching his ups and downs had been a bit off putting as a fan.I heard Buckethead 3 years ago and have a new favorite but I'll always have a place for Michaels music. There are loads of really good guitarists and you cant choose who you think is the best. They choose you.The best is who you like the best.
yea im pretty sure if it was a fender it would look fucking gay as hell, u can tell its a gibson by the fuckin neck and heads like an triangle..../.he plays dean guitars now i have one of them they're badass
History will likely be kinder & more rewarding regarding the quality/ impact/influence of Maestro Michael's arsenal than the contemporary world. Great contributors to Art/Science/Literature are often unrecognized as the best of their generation during their lifetime. The Majority of artists & audiences: easily mollified by flash, monetary reward, egocentric gratification and/or the pathetic need to be accepted by the mundane masses while mistakenly confusing those attributes with true greatness.
I disagree. He's talented enough but will fade into obscurity just like those other players/bands that never made it to super-stardom. Is Uli not more gifted as far as pure guitar skills and is Buck Dharma not a more well rounded guitar player/song-writer/singer? Just my opinion but I have yet to be convinced of MS's guitar god status.
@clubninjarock well Schenker has been at the top many times ,he is 55 or 56 ,he doesn't have to convince anyone ,he has done it already, nobody could touch him when he was in UFO & with MSG ,but like you said ,that is your opinion & we all have our own favorite guitarists! I like other guitarists aswell but to me this is the best of them all!
@oknod7363 Don't deny that. But his style is not unique...that's why people talk about his "tone" and "phrasing" because it's hard to nail anything else down.
this is my favorite version of this song. I love the way he subtly manipulates the wah to get those really throaty low notes. The real masters of the wah know how to use it to control the tone and not just to make the "wah wah" sound.
one of my personal guitar heroes, I played into the arena into the ground, emulated his style into my own, he is one of the greatest guitarists ever, a unique style and classical influence that made for a phenomenal talent!
He is known as the "Flying V Wizard" due to the model of the Fender Guitar he always used in his career. He is one of the best guitar players ever in the 70's, 80's, 90's, 2000's and forever !!!
@skarbu I saw this tour in Las Vegas and all he had was 2 Boss delays, no wah. So it's nice that he changes it up. Everybody knows MS does whatever he wants !
I can clearly hear the wah HERE! And as a pedal gear freak and electronist, i can totally disagree with you. On the original song, he uses wah left half cocked ;) i can guarantee you that. Here he used the wah, not letting it like in his original song on the album. I`m not saying that when YOU saw him, he did use a wah, but here, he did :D

Sad to see him perform so shakey. Once the greatest guitarist, but he got his talent rotten. I didn't enjoy being nervous about possible mistakes coming up here and there.

Actually, yeah it's not a Fender it's a Gibson Flying V just like his brother Rudolph plays.

Michael has never really gotten the recognition he deserves. Just listen to how sweet he makes that flying V sing!
Lead guitar is almost like a lost art form nowadays.
