brings back memories, lived on ft. sheridan my first two years.. lived in highwood for many more, and lived in lake forest as well. This still brings back memories of haunted places. I remember kids telling the stories about there when I was young. I used to see things at night around there too.
I spent 3 years at Sheridan in the '80s. There were a lot of stories back then. There was a story in the national enquirer in the late 80s /early 90s about this, so it must be true. It also had the picture of the ghost in hospital garb and a picture of one that looked like a chaplain. I had a friend who swore she saw doors open and close, and another who left his duty post because he said he saw a ghost.
im suprised that the story of the ghost of the drill sargent that yells at people isn't up here. i do my army drills here every month and i cant find where this ghost is at. i've only heard about him
wow thats cool but theres so much wasted space those big empty buildings I wouldnt mind living in one,,,ghosts well I just about live with one now in my apartment here in Illinois,,,
@Dolphindream15 Most of those big empty buildings are now used as condos, so they're not so empty anymore. Any interesting stories of living in a haunted apartment?
@slimpicturesDOTcom YES I can tell you some instresting things about my haunted apartment and I have no explainition as to the things I hear,,my former next door neighbor has even herd a few things,,and seen things as well,,Im kinda use to it Ill have to tell ya about it but in these little boxes here on you tube it would be hard to put in all the details,,,your only allowed so much room to write,,but I will tell my story buddy,,
Is Fort Sheridan still open to the public? It was my first permanent duty station in 1991-92. I have an actual photo that the public affairs office threw away of a ghostly figure - it was a snowy scene and the man looked like he was wearing hospital garb - like a doctor would wear.
@AbstractLucidity I would LOVE to see the picture! Please send it to ScottLMarkus at gmail. The place has been converted to a neighborhood, so it is open for someone to drive through (not a gated community). However, there aren't any buildings open to the public (that I'm aware of). Hopefully they have or will dedicate one of the buildings to be a historical society building.
Can somebody tell me why all ghostly apparitions have to be a women or a girl in white....there is plenty of colours for clothings even in the 1800'.This is just crazy to hear that 98% of female ghosts are clothed in a white dress...
I was stationed at Ft. Sheridan in 1966 & 1967. One winter night we were guarding trucks near that cemetery. Another MP, a Vietman Vet by the way, swore he saw a ghost in the darkness near a grave and took a shot at it with his 45 cal pistol. We all thought he did it just to get out of guard duty because it was really really cold at night out there. But now after seeing this I'm not so sure. Maybe he saw a real GHOST!!
i live in fort sheridan after i saw this video for the first time i didnt want to go outside ever again it freaks me out and well i actually believe its haunted too i have a witness
i live in highwood and my friends and went threre last night we walked out in the open filed by the big tower and as we were walking we saw a black figur and the it went away and came back and i was closer we ran and it was cashing us o and we didn't see the oragan lady in the build cuz there remodling it
I lived on the base for 3 years in late 70's early 80's. My father told me the old Library was haunted. It's used to be a hospital in the eary 1900's. He claimed to see a WW1 soldier walking the halls at night. The building's gone now and most of the other buildings you were showing were office buildings and one was the E-club (bar) for the enlisted guys. Most of the base is now a wealthy community and the other half of the base is still military, mostly just military housing.
When we first checked the place out it was pretty much vacant and completely open. It's now another suburb - lots of condos. It's completely open to the public, but these are people's homes now.
Well, Edwin, you've got quite a lot of people that will testify to the contrary. In the next edition of my book I've got quotes from two workers at the Fort and the Fort's historian. The 'if I've never seen it, then no one's ever seen it' approach doesn't make much sense.
I live in Highwood, and I have tons of friends who live in Fort Sheridan, it isn't haunted at all.

and the lights were on;
but i think it's peaceful
[[and the building they looked in, i think they tour it down, right?]]

it's time for ghosts to get the message and clear out, their time is over and it's time for new buildings and new people to take over

Can you get in to check the place out or is it fenced in? Does it have security guards?
thinkbeforeyouleap 3 years ago
When we first checked the place out it was pretty much vacant and completely open. It's now another suburb - lots of condos. It's completely open to the public, but these are people's homes now.

So there are no more vacant/abandoned buildings left there ot are there some left?
thinkbeforeyouleap 3 years ago
Two years ago there were only a couple left. By now I'm sure they're all occupied.
