We cannot stop sinning. We need Jesus to give us a NEW NATURE that DOES NOT SIN. After we have that new life we can either WALK IN THE SPIRIT or FLESH

You cannot ask people that don't have the SPIRIT to WALK IN THE SPIRIT, but to repent and receive forgiveness and new life and God's spirit will dwell in them

Confess your sin, cry out to Jesus on your knees and listen to His Word, and He'll give you faith

Repentance is the relinquishment of any practice, from conviction that it has offended God.

Anybody trying to say repent does not mean to stop sinning is deceived and trying to hang on to some sin. Jesus said go and sin no more, You must stop sinning and surrender your whole life to the Lord Jesus to escape hell.

Another thing, you say it is wrong to drink alcohol, I beg you to read Psalm 104: "He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for man to cultivate— bringing forth food from the earth: wine that gladdens the heart of man, oil to make his face shine, and bread that sustains his heart." It is wrong to get drunk, not to drink alcohol, even Jesus drank wine in the last supper. I hope you listen brother. God bless you.

Repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ are conditions for salvation. If the local grocery store had a free gallon of milk give away, but you had to be 18 years of age and show up at 12 pm to get one. If you don't meet the conditions you don't get one. But if you meet the conditions and get one you did not earn the milk, it was a free gift. The salvation of God is the same in that you must meet the conditions. You do not earn it by meeting God's conditions.
