Because from what I have heard of him, he seemed the type to not care what others believed; whether it be in God, or Allah, or in nothing at all, as long as they respected the planet, the Pale Blue Dot, and respected others.

This for example, we are less than a speck on a speck in an electron microscope on full "zoom" to the universe, and religion would have you believe that all of it was made for us.
