hey i have a slightly unrelated question. I did an oil painting onto paper, expecting it to be just a half-assed portrait, but it ended up being the best thing i've ever done. So anyway, i didn't bother preparing the paper, and i just wondered if there's
any way i could stop the painting deteriorating over time? If I coat it in varnish, will that help?
when i paint do i have to put liquid medium on my brush and then the colours and then start painting or just the dry brush with nothing on it and put the colours and start painting ?
for eg if i want to paint the sky, blue do i have to water on my brush or liquid medium or just start painting?
well... you can do both , If you put liquid on your brush the painting will slide more easily but be carefull don't use a lot of liquid only the tip of the brush and then the painting, the other way it's to directly put painting on your brush and start painting
Painting dry creates a thicker paint, or a toned down paint (like when there's almost no paint on your brush anymore)
If you water your brush, you create a smoother texture, but also it becomes slightly transparent. You can make it completly transparent by mixing your paints with a transparent gel, this is good for painting like Hercules (I think 15th century painter)
the Gesso you can boght it on your art suplies or you can make it with white glue, or natural animal glue and white zinc powder mix them very well and that's it
great vid..

It depends on the desired effect.
So you can choose
