And at this point we know for a fact that the global climate has been warming since the onset of industrialization. This you simply cant deny. The issue is then: is it manmade? When modelling past climate (that is, not predicting future climate, but rather trying to recreate present day climate), no models are even close unless you add the manmade anthropogenic factor.

These are caused by dramatic changes characterized by being much more permanent. Say for instance that the contact between an inland lake/river system and the ocean was blocked by a glacier. If this glacier were to melt it would cause the release of much freshwater into the ocean currents, thus changing it....

Still a bit worrying how hot the world has been this summer - temperatures up to 30oC above the Arctic Circle; 40oC in west Russia - Middle East, Sahara, USA burning hot . Shade temps of 48 - 50oC in Kuwait, Iraq, Saudi, Algeria, Libya, Sudan and Egypt.The Northwest passage opening up each year - I used to be a sceptic of global warming but now I am not so sure. Our atmosphere is such a thin layer in comparison with the surface of earth. And we are polluting everything beyond redemption. Help!

The issue isn't that the climate is changing. Climate change does indeed always happen and it always will. Nothing to be done about it. But it typically happens over GEOLOGIC TIME SCALES not human time scales. The other biggy is that we now have 6.7B people one the planet, many near the coasts and all depending on stable food harvests.

Ozone helps block out some of the suns UV rays. A hole in the ozone layer will allow more UV light to enter the Earth's atmosphere, most of which is absorbed by the Earth's surface thus causing the Earth to heat up.
Perhaps the 'facts' don't conclusively support human driven global warming, however, it can't hurt for mankind take a little more care for the planet we live on through recycling used packaging and riding a bike to work etc, can it?

However, it has been scientifically proven and observed that releasing carbon monoxide into the atmosphere through the combustion of fossil fuels (combustion engines, power plants etc) leads indirectly to the depletion of the ozone layer through the generation of oxygen radicals created by photolysis (the breaking up of a molecule using UV light) of carbon monoxide.

Most of his arguments are scientifically questionable, as time measures of 10 to 30 years are statistically irrelevant, as there is always fluctuation in the exact number from year to year.
Of course hurricanes, typhoons and cyclones can reach a 30-year-low in a particular time period. But that has no statistical meaning. They can also reach an all-time-high in the next year.
The more important numbers are the long-time alterations, and he didn't talk about them.

I just love this Monckton asshole! We've had two consecutive strong cool La Nina cycles with just an unusual minute hot cycle -that trend will not last, and the 11 year solar cycle is still going to peak in a year or two. So, with a normal incoming hot La Nina + peak sun activity it is VERY likely we will break new record highs the coming years. So Monkyton has to cherry pick some new period with "no statistical significant increase in temperature". *sigh*

And at this point we know for a fact that the global climate has been warming since the onset of industrialization. This you simply cant deny. The issue is then: is it manmade? When modelling past climate (that is, not predicting future climate, but rather trying to recreate present day climate), no models are even close unless you add the manmade anthropogenic factor.

@MrTtillub You commented on your own comment which is why I never got a notification and thus never replied. What you're referring to are "abrupt climate changes". These are caused by dramatic changes characterized by being much more permanent. Say for instance that the contact between an inland lake/river system and the ocean was blocked by a glacier. If this glacier were to melt it would cause the release of much freshwater into the ocean currents, thus changing it....

@MrTtillub ...Abrupt climate changes (ACC) could still be in play, if it werent for the fact that none of the known reasons for prior ACCs are in play at the moment. The key here is that none of our models can predict what is going on (from "re-analysis" of old data to present day) without adding CO2 as the major contributor. Many climate sceptics claim that results based on models are incorrect but that only serves as a clear sign of lack of understanding for how efficient they really are.

Each week for the past year a few percent of my pool water water has vanished for reasons not relating to natural vaporization, to the extent that I can almost no longer dive head-first into the pool without being injured. Ofcourse the level of water has gone up slightly the last two weeks so im not too troubled at all and dont think its all that important to find out what is wrong.

Still a bit worrying how hot the world has been this summer - temperatures up to 30oC above the Arctic Circle; 40oC in west Russia - Middle East, Sahara, USA burning hot . Shade temps of 48 - 50oC in Kuwait, Iraq, Saudi, Algeria, Libya, Sudan and Egypt.The Northwest passage opening up each year - I used to be a sceptic of global warming but now I am not so sure. Our atmosphere is such a thin layer in comparison with the surface of earth. And we are polluting everything beyond redemption. Help!

The issue isn't that the climate is changing. Climate change does indeed always happen and it always will. Nothing to be done about it. But it typically happens over GEOLOGIC TIME SCALES not human time scales. Well, I did check his own sources and everything he says to the lady is just wrong. Yes, he uses credible sources but lies about the data. Check with your own eyes. Google for "Cryosphere today" and "NOAA climate services" and check the first search result. The data is all there.

Ozone helps block out some of the suns UV rays. A hole in the ozone layer will allow more UV light to enter the Earth's atmosphere, most of which is absorbed by the Earth's surface thus causing the Earth to heat up.
Perhaps the 'facts' don't conclusively support human driven global warming, however, it can't hurt for mankind take a little more care for the planet we live on through recycling used packaging and riding a bike to work etc, can it?

When looking at the hard facts, global warming is perhaps trivialized. However, it has been scientifically proven and observed that releasing carbon monoxide into the atmosphere through the combustion of fossil fuels (combustion engines, power plants etc) leads indirectly to the depletion of the ozone layer through the generation of oxygen radicals created by photolysis (the breaking up of a molecule using UV light) of carbon monoxide.

The facts are not going away, and the trends in temperature remain worryingly upward no matter how much he wants it to be different. And it's a false assertion about the sea ice, which has clearly declined undeniably. Monckton has a long habit of lying and misrepresenting. The hurricanes thing is a red herring of course.

Most of his arguments are scientifically questionable, as time measures of 10 to 30 years are statistically irrelevant, as there is always fluctuation in the exact number from year to year.
Of course hurricanes, typhoons and cyclones can reach a 30-year-low in a particular time period. But that has no statistical meaning. They can also reach an all-time-high in the next year.
The more important numbers are the long-time alterations, and he didn't talk about them.
It's a shame he blames others!

In der Erdgeschichte gab es Zeiten mit 3 bis 10 mal so viel Co 2 ..allerdings vermerkte man zu dieser Zeit keinerlei Temperatur veränderungen.Eisborungen und Daten die man aus Stalaktiten gewonnen hat sprechen ebenfalls dagegen ...
