@173witnessed no it isn't because I don't watch wrestling any more but the old school stuff. I watch WCW and WWF classics, not WWE cause that is crap. I miss the old gimmacks. I remember when it was doink, twin towers, beef cake, mr. perfect, and etc. John Cena sucks and mostly the whole WWE roster right now.
@downtownchicagobarbi not to mention they actually wrestled back in the WCW days. Now a typical WWE telecast is 90% talking and about 10 mins of actual wrestling.
@downtownchicagobarbi Two things. First: if Goldberg ain't talented, who is? Second: why watch a Goldberg match if you don't respect him? Do you have nothing better to do?
@BlueDemonofFire first thing you have nothing better else to do but respond to my comment... Second the whole 80's and 90's roster had more talent then the garbage that is out now. Third maybe I watch the video to see wrath. I swear children on here who act tough from behind a computer.
@downtownchicagobarbi Right..children..I'm old enough to have seen the Undertaker's debut. While it's true that I have nothing better to do than ask the questions, I at least watch a clip of a wrestler I respect. Sure, his mike skills were crap, but I admired his intensity.
I also find it ironic that you complain about modern wrestlers, and at the same time consider one of the better WCW stars to be a talentless hack. Complaints about Cena or the Miz, I would understand, but..
@inc2000glw I'll remind you, because it was something that had never been done in wrestling. What a novel idea! And you dipshits wonder why WCW was kicking WWFs ass at this time.
It's not so far fetched as you would think. It only take 3 seconds to win a match. We all know it is scripted!! At this time though the Main WCW talent fill Goldberg paid his dues. So that's why they did it this way. All these matches and him running through people. So when he gets to the main stream if it takes longer. It's cause his opponents are better. make a lil sence.
The goldberg gimmick made wrestling look really fake. You just don't beat a 6 foot 8 297 pound guy in five seconds. Plus they pushed Wrath as a real monster at that point, it kinda of ruins that. I would have loved to see this match if it was made to be what it could have been. The only credit WCW deserves for this match is the fact that Wrath was out and out blindsided. Though it still doesn't make his loss much better.
Lets be honest here. Bryan Clark(Wrath) was a four hundred pound bench presser, not to mention an incredibly gifted athlete. At 6'7 and 295 Clark would have decimated Bill Goldberg in an actual fight. Clark , by the way, went on a tremendous win streak that was also halted by Kevin Nash. All a match like this does is make wrestling look "too" fake. By the way other than this Goldberg Shit, WCW was great at the time.
Not weak, stupid. He actually thought wrestling was a real fight which is why Bret Hart was injured in a match with him. Goldberg fails at wrestling, he fails at being cool and he fails at life. Most of his matches were bullshit anyway.
How does saying wrath is a talented athlete mean I think goldberg is weak? Fact is fact Goldberg wasn't have the talent wrath was. And maybe that's why Clark remained in wrestling for nearly 15 years. How many for Bill Goldberg, maybe the better half of four. A guy like him has to go 173-0 for anyone to take him seriously.
Don't talk about credibility when you respond to something that WAS NEVER SAID.
this is a major reason wcw wasn't liked at all... bill goldberg had a 173 matches with out a losing once until kevin nash... which someone like wrath isn't smaller then bill goldberg... no he looked like steve austin so they pushed him.. when wwe had goldberg they showed what he really was a short fad
Ummmmmm, you don't think people got bored of seeing the same thing over and over again on WCW? You think they found it exciting when a world title bout lasted 5 minutes or less? Don't think so. Think before you type next time. Goldberg hit a peak, then the people got bored with him.
How about you follow your own advice. You make a comment stating people got tired of Goldberg's act, but ratings say otherwise. Ratings are calculated by people watching. So you can "Ummmm" all you want, but the more you type the more you remove all doubt that you are an idiot.
Who cares about ratings? People love The Notebook but I'm sure any guy wouldn't watch that crap. Goldberg sucks, WCW sucks, that's why they went bankrupt and were sold to WWE. It's lame wrestlers like Goldberg that caused the destruction of WCW with his lame ass five second matches.
Wrath is a better wrestler, better performer and helluva lot better to watch than some ex-football player who can't even put on a decent show.
Goldberg sucked as a wrestler. He shouldn't have gotten nearly a big a push that WCW gave him. It's matches like this that caused me to turn WCW off. Goldberg beating someone in 5 seconds is a lame and boring match, especially when that's all his career was - five second matches.
The nWo is what got WCW bigger than WWF at the time. That stable was, like, one of the biggest surprises that no one even expected. Let's see... Hogan going heel or some lame, ripoff Austin that spears people. Yeah...
Lol firstly Goldberg became big before Austin did.
Secondly millions of fans who loved Goldberg and his 'boring' 5 second matches would disagree with you.
Goldbergs crushing matches were actually something different, something original. Apart from Brock Lesnar there has been NO ONE like Goldberg in wrestling. The gift of speed, strength, athleticism...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Now I know you're a Goldberg fanboy. Austin was big at least a year before Goldberg was even in WCW. His change happened in 1996 when he fought Jake Roberts and won, coming up with the 3:16 bit. Goldberg didn't enter WCW until 1997 so WCW had a whole year's gap there to look at WWF's recent success cause of Austin and say "Hmm... where are we gonna get a big, muscular bald guy and make him popular?"
Goldberg and his five second matches didn't show strength, speed or athleticism. Boredom maybe.
Austin became a star yes, but his popularity exploded around the same time as Goldberg. Goldy was on the streak and Austin was facing McMahon.
Listen dude its just a matter of taste. Would I want to see a whole show of Goldy matches? Hell no. But seeing him come in, destroy somone, then walk out, was really fresh at the time and myself and millions of other people loved it.
Not every match needs to be a technical masterpeice for you to enjoy it.
Alright, I'll give you that one. Both were popular as far as the audience goes at around the same time. Though, I think he was popular in ECW as well when he was there.
It is a matter of taste, agreed. I just didn't like him destroying all these big name wrestling stars in five seconds. I mean, Glacier and Wrath at the time were huge. I think Glacier was a heel at the time though. It just wasn't enjoyable or entertaining for me to see a five second match.
Hmmmm. Interesting since they were winning the ratings battle with him on top. As soon as Nash and Hogan did the Fingerpoke of Doom the ratings dropped. Way to rewreite history though.
damn i am kind of dissapointed....i was expecting more from wrath....but to be honest goldberg did the right thing the bell had already rang and wrath was still all dressed up so he took advantage of it
and also...the jackhammer is a mediocre wrestling move at best. its basically a vertical suplex turned into a front powerslam. doesnt look very effective at all really..
i dont think you realise, but that was the most popular finisher to be performed outside the ring, my brothers and cousins would have to deliver one to me everytime we met for a family lunch/dinner
This is what ticked me off the most about Goldberg... Wrath had two separate pushes, one as a masked character and one as an unmasked man... and in both cases, Goldberg ruined the push. This time, by squashing him, and, later, by Goldberg's push overshadowing that of Wrath's. Makes me upset to think about.
Why in the world would they have this guy in a squash match with his size / gimmick / intro like that? There's so much potential there and so many ways to push Goldberg yet they had Goldberg run him over like he was nothing, essentially ruining great potential and money opportunity for the company. That was a great intro especially with Mortis and the manager guy entering with him. I tend not to hate on WCW but that was some stupid shit.
Too bad there's no videos of Bill Goldberg's TRUE first appearances, the one where Roddy Piper was having an open house of sorts to fight the NWO and Goldberg was one of the candidates and Piper choked him out. Or that infamous house show where Hector Guererro pinned Goldberg. Hardcore fans used to sneak "Goldberg Fears Hector Guererro" signs to the live shows.
Thanks. I couldn't remember who it was. It didn't matter though, they were pushing Goldberg so much, everyone was jobbing to him anyways. But I remembered hearing it from somewhere.
I can't remember when and where I heard this, but the guy who came to the ring that night WASN'T WRATH! Wrath was injured so they put someone in Wrath's ring clothes and they made sure not to take off that mask
Sorry for that random comment,I was testing the audio preview to say "FUCK" and accidentally posted it,but these guys play Mortal Kombat too much. Are any of you gonna get SVR09,they have WCW guys as playable characters I think. There's also MK vs DC.That would be awesome to have a guy as Scorpion or Raiden lol
Kevin Nash was a booker who should've been a jobber. Goldberg did some good moves against one of Raven's guys I think it was Jerry Flynn. Wrath,Mortis and James Vandenberg were great. NWO started out cool but got old around 98. WCW missed its chance to crush WWF in 98 but because Nash and other bookers used weak plot lines for matches dull. WWF had what 8 stars at the time, and 4 were hurt at any given moment. Kevin Nash had all of three moves and that seems to have matched good plots.
Wrath was an awesome wrestler who could have held his own against Goldberg. This match SHOULD have been a killer to watch, not this 2c crap. WE WERE F'N RIPPED OFF!!!!!! I DEMAND A REMATCH!!!!!!
Wrath's entrace theme was awesome. His persona was marketable, too. The WCW bookers should hang their heads in shame for not pushing him to the top of the company.
Then the ref didn't do his job. He technically has to wait for both wrestlers to be ready then ring the bell. How would you like it if someone started beating up the undertaker before he took off his coat and hat...but the bell rang early.
THE BELL RANG!!!! THAT MEANS THE MATCH BEGANS.Anyway noone would ever beat the undertaker before he took his hat off. That is why he's called dead man walking. And you would have to be incredibly stupid.
Man I fucking love Wrath/Mortis' costumes. I whish they would bring that stuff back to wrestling today. BTW Does anyone know where I can get Wrath's theme?
Man I still think Wrath should have won the battle royal thing and faced Goldberg and beat him. Wrath was an amazing wrestler and deserved much better than what he got. I mean how could WCW pass up "Battle of the unbeatables?"
Don't see why not. Goldberg had a few moves. Wrath was overall a better athlete. For a guy 200+ doing high flying moves and being quick I think he would have made a great champion. I don't understand why wrestlers who have like four moves (Hogan, John Cena, Goldberg ect) get more praise than people who really give it their all in the matches and push the limit. Just imagine if Wrath beat him tho...the ultimate story of the underdog defying tradition.
Damn, I wanted to see Wrath actually wrestle.

I just saw this match on 24/7. Anyone know why they over-dub Goldberg's music on it?

Sorry for that random comment,I was testing the audio preview to say "FUCK" and accidentally posted it,but these guys play Mortal Kombat too much. Are any of you gonna get SVR09,they have WCW guys as playable characters I think. There's also MK vs DC.That would be awesome to have a guy as Scorpion or Raiden lol

Wrath is Almost a bit like Rhino ! They should become a Tag Team

Rumor has it that it was someone else as Brian Clark never lost the mask.
Not a shock really.

Wrath could have been WCW's answer to the Undertaker, if they'd just pushed him a little more. It's a shame they didn't.

for Goldberg to kill Adam Bomb that fast is just a joke......
theevilaaron88 3 years ago 3
Wrath was a completely awesome gimmick, along with Mortis (Kanyon). WCW fucked it up royally, though.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
And Goldberg fucking cheated here
TheForgottenFlesh 3 years ago
no he didn't. the bell rang the fight starts. stop bitchin.
nenna585 3 years ago
Then the ref didn't do his job. He technically has to wait for both wrestlers to be ready then ring the bell. How would you like it if someone started beating up the undertaker before he took off his coat and hat...but the bell rang early.
TheForgottenFlesh 3 years ago
THE BELL RANG!!!! THAT MEANS THE MATCH BEGANS.Anyway noone would ever beat the undertaker before he took his hat off. That is why he's called dead man walking. And you would have to be incredibly stupid.
nenna585 3 years ago
Man I fucking love Wrath/Mortis' costumes. I whish they would bring that stuff back to wrestling today. BTW Does anyone know where I can get Wrath's theme?
TheForgottenFlesh 3 years ago
Man I still think Wrath should have won the battle royal thing and faced Goldberg and beat him. Wrath was an amazing wrestler and deserved much better than what he got. I mean how could WCW pass up "Battle of the unbeatables?"
TheForgottenFlesh 3 years ago
he does deserve more but not a victory over goldberg
blackiechan52 3 years ago
Don't see why not. Goldberg had a few moves. Wrath was overall a better athlete. For a guy 200+ doing high flying moves and being quick I think he would have made a great champion. I don't understand why wrestlers who have like four moves (Hogan, John Cena, Goldberg ect) get more praise than people who really give it their all in the matches and push the limit. Just imagine if Wrath beat him tho...the ultimate story of the underdog defying tradition.
